I am disappointed,
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Training Guide: Windows NT Server 4 (Covers Exam #70-067) (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my 70-67 exam which I was palnning to take on 01/12. After I finished the first 2 chapters I was so frustrated and thought that I would never pass or understand the NT server... It is a kind of a book that makes you read more hoping that you'll understand what you already read later on, until suddenly the chapter is over. To be fair, I think there is nothing wrong with the material, maybe its just the presentation that made me dislike this book.

OLD but RELEVANT!,

This review is from: MCSE Training Guide: Windows NT Server 4 (Covers Exam #70-067) (Hardcover)
This book is a little bit outdated but aided me a lot to be able to take the MCSE exam with confidence, it never hurts to have a little more knowledge than the usual!

A fine book when mixed with the Trancenders,

This review is from: MCSE Training Guide: Windows NT Server 4 (Covers Exam #70-067) (Hardcover)
I recently wrote a review about this book for amazon that claimed that the book covered only a tenth of what was on the test. I thought that because the trancender test that I had used to test my knowledge was actually a Windoes NT Server Enterprise trancender test. I always had a suspicion of that but nowhere on the transcender did it say it was the enterprise level test. Please disregard the other review of this book with the same e-mail address (which is nosbtr@yahoo.com) The book is actually perfect for the test and would highly recommend it to anyone. It was so refreshing to actually see the real trancenders for Windows NT Server 4.0. The questions seemed so easy compared to the Enterprise test.

This review is from: MCSE Training Guide: Windows NT Server 4 (Covers Exam #70-067) (Hardcover)
This is an execellent training guide for the MCSE exams. The information was presented in a format that was clear and concise. The book is wrote is such a way that it compells you to remember what you read. This is accomplished by the authors repeating important topics several times. The included CD is a nice addition to the book. I definitely recommend this book as a must buy

Has a place in my reference library,

It's been over a year since I first worked through this book on my way to completing the MCSE certification and it was one of three books I used to pass the Implementing and Supporting Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 exam. Though it may be too late for you if you still plan on passing this test before the deadline of Dec. 31, 2000, for me it proved invaluable today as I began building a small home network. The simple and clear layout as well as ample screen shots allowed me to skim the entire book in a little over an hour and refresh a lot of the facts and procedures I learned way back when but haven't had to use recently. Because there are other books out there that are more comprehensive in their coverage of Windows NT Server and its value as a test study guide is gone thanks to Microsoft retiring the NT 4.0 track I can't give it five stars, but as a quick reference when I need it this book will remain on my shelf. This was one of the best exam prep books I have ever used. I just passed the Microsoft certification exam with flying colors because of this material. I found it easy to read, understand and study from. My thanks to the authors!

Very good book for someone new to the market!,

The series of MCSE training guides put together for the 4 core MCSE requirements are written up well enough for the beginners to understand. I recommend these books for the 4 core. But 1 thing though, the TCP/IP, and IIS4 books are just the opposite, I wouldn't waste your money their. I found that Exam Cram has a good series when it comes to them. Dave MCSE+Internet

Okay in combination with other books,

I found the book a bit wordy in places, and definitely unclear on some of the key concepts. I was very green at NT server 4.0, and this really didn't help. I would recommend getting this book in combination with Mark Minasi's Mastering Windows NT Server, and doing lots and lots of practice questions. As it was I barely scraped through the exam. Also the CD wasn't very good, I didn't use it at all. But if you read widely, and aren't scared to read some chapters twice or three times it can be useful.

Great book!,

This book realy helped me to pass the exam, it covers everything that you need to know, but it is always recomended that you read at least one book more! I read the IDG Windows NT 4.0 study guide also ( it is also a great book but it is to big to be efficent because it cover 3 exams). This gave me a passing score of 854. OBS test your self on the microsoft evaluation test they are the best! The tests that were on the CD was not top class.

It took me about two weeks to read this book and I felt confident that I had absorbed everything that was in it - which I had. And for what the book covered the book did quite well. But after I finished the book I started to test my knowledge using the transcender pre-tests. I found that almost all the question in them where not covered in the book. There were so many questions on trusted domains, dhcp servers and local and global groups. There wasn't even anything metioned in the book about trusted domains, the subject is totally skipped. Dhcp servers are merly defined in the book but the trancenders exepect you to have a complete working knowledge if them. Local and global groups were poorly described and still again the tests need you to have a highly technical understanding of them. And trust me I checked up on this stuff to, the cd that comes with it has a copy of the book on it so I can easily search for words like "dhcp scope" which shows up nothing ofcoarse. About 10% of the transcponder material was covered and I mean that quite literally. All through the book you get the feeling that the author had never seen the test before but only the ojectives for the test which consist of about a sentence each. And there are so many errors. Especialy in the review questions at the end of every chapter. Almost all the chapters had a few review questions that just wern't covered in the book which give you the same feeling that all the questions on the trascenders do. And the answers they give for some of the questions are flat out wrong. But the real bad thing about the book is that nothing on the test gets covered because the author apperently didn't know what the real test was going to look like. I seriously question the validity of the people who claim this book will enable you to pass this test. This book has taken two weeks of my life... I have to start all over, hoping that I don't get screwed over again. Feel free to e-mail me to discuss this book.
