All the computer professionals taking certification exams know that there is a gap between what Microsoft expects us to know for the exam and what we know from our day-to-day job duties. 1.0 out of 5 stars Nowhere close to right for 2000
Books from this series were excellant for the A+ and Net+ exams, and a good aid for the CCNA test, but completely missed the mark for the Windows 2000 MCSE exams. The books are themselves a good overview of Windows 2000 establishment systems but unfortunately they do not approach the level of detail, in either the body of text or the sample exams, of the actual MS exams...

This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Core Four Exam Cram Pack (Exam: 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217) (Paperback)
All the computer professionals taking certification exams know that there is a gap between what Microsoft expects us to know for the exam and what we know from our day-to-day job duties. The Exam Cram books are designed to cover that gap. They deliver "just the facts, man." They're not a guide to using Windows 2000, they're merely a guide for passing the Windows 2000 tests.

The Exam Cram series does not pretend to be a complete product overview or user's guide. They are not certified by Microsoft as being complete preparatory materials for their tests. But they're exactly what the professional with a day-to-day, hands-on knowledge of Windows 2000 needs to prepare for MCSE exams. After all, why buy the big honkin' book at two or three times the cost and required study time when the Cliffs Notes are sufficient?

If you're in the market for a quick guide to passing a test on stuff you use every day, pick these. If you're trying to gain an MCSE without much hands-on Windows 2000 experience, these books will not help you pass the exams--either go for coursework or buy a complete self-study guide.

The inclusion of the CD-ROM with questions makes the four-pack a better value than buying the separate books.

This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Core Four Exam Cram Pack (Exam: 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217) (Paperback)
I have been a big fan of the Exam Cram series ever since I started taking my NT 4.0 certifications a couple years ago. The editors are extremely adept at hitting the highlights that are great to have in those last couple weeks before sitting for an exam.

This series is not for someone wanting to "learn" this new operating system. I suggest classroom time or a more thorough book, there is a reason this series is called "Exam Cram".

Additionally, the software that comes with the book is full of errors and doesn't accurately simulate the types of questions you will see on the real exams. I suggest using Transcenders for any type of practice testing.

With a combination of experience, Transcender Practice Exams, and the Exam Cram...I don't see how you could fail.

This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Core Four Exam Cram Pack (Exam: 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217) (Paperback)
I was able to pass all core MCSE exams with less than 10 hours of study per exam and with little experience administering NT/2000 networks. There is no reason to pay for classes when any reasonable intelligent person with a decent background in computers can pass the tests using just these books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Exam Prep Tools, November 3, 2000
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Core Four Exam Cram Pack (Exam: 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217) (Paperback)
These books are very good at preparing you for the exam. The writing is concise and to the point and errors are few and far between however there are some small errors. Errors are good in my opinion because it makes you verify your knowledge with other sources. I have bought and used all the books in this series and used them to study the core exams for Windows 2000. I've used Exam Cram to study for NT4 as well. Self study and working with the product is a must for these exams. You will fail if you are trying to get by on book knowledge alone.

I'm an entry level systems consultant, I just have less than six months working with windows 2000. I own this pack and passed my first exam (70-210 for the first time) without the need of a 700 page book. I recommend this pack also if you are on a dead line and don't have too much time to read 700 - 800 pages. Good explanations and easy to read and covers all of the exam objectives.

5.0 out of 5 stars These books are for preparing for the test...only!, June 23, 2001
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Core Four Exam Cram Pack (Exam: 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217) (Paperback)
I have read these books cover to cover and can reccomend them highly as a tool for preparing for the MCSE 2000 core four tests. They are not meant to be manuals for supporting NT2000, keep that in mind.

They are well written, no nonsense, and are correct. The package also comes with a CD that contains the text of the four books as well as hundreds of practice questions. As a registered user of the software, you can download updates so your questions should be fresh and better able to prepare you for your tests.

Good luck!

This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Core Four Exam Cram Pack (Exam: 70-210, 70-215, 70-216, 70-217) (Paperback)
After looking at competiting publisher's Windows 2000 MCSE Core Four Exam study guides and exam preparation materials, Exam Cram books appear to be the evident book of choice. They have the most concise information available on every aspect of Windows 2000 certification. Exam Cram maintains an excellent website which is constantly updated and provides many useful resources. This one's a winner!

I just passed my 70-240 exam today, due in part to this set.

This set isn't designed to TEACH you what you need to know. It's designed as a to-the-point review to be used after you've already read a more appropriate text. I found the information on-topic with the tests. I've always like the exam cram series, in part because of they're easy to hold and the type is easy to read.

In my studies, I used the McGraw-Hill set (ISBN 0072126159) which I really liked, the Exam Cram set (also liked) and the Cramsession.com study guide (free). I would recommend reading them in that order. It's hard for me to say after the fact which was the best, but I'd recommend all 3 to anyone.

The books are themselves a good overview of Windows 2000 establishment systems but unfortunately they do not approach the level of detail, in either the body of text or the sample exams, of the actual MS exams. A nice bookshelf reference, a completely worthless study aid. These books seem to me to still be prepareing for the NT 4.0 MCSE, with only an update in content to Win2K but without anticipating the increased level of difficulty which MS has included as part of the Win2K MCSE exam system.

I am currently preparing for MCSE in Windows 2000. These books provide an excellent supplement to the material learned in class.

Diagrams, tips, alerts to notify you of key terms to study for the exam, and end-chapter exams with answers have made mastering this material a breeze.

Highly recommended.
