4.0 out of 5 stars Book Review
Pretty Good. Lots of good information for beginners. Kinda boring for experienced users or administrators and support people.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a Good Book to Read if You Want to Pass the Test, March 13, 1999
This review is from: MCSE : Windows 95 Study Guide (Hardcover)
The Topics and Questions in the book did not prepare me adequately for the exam. I did every review question in the book and on the CD, and they were nowhere near as difficult as the actual exam questions. I was very disappointed. The thrust of the actual exam deals with how Windows 95 machines interact with NT Server and Novell NetWare. The questions are often scenarios where the exam-taker must analyze many details and choose multiple correct answers. The book's study questions were a joke compared to the real exam. The book was mostly about the OS itself, as a separate entity. The only thing that saved me on this test (which I barely passed) was my limited experience with WindowsNT. You need to know a lot about NT and Novell to ace the test.

In preparation for the remaining tests, I will definitely buy books which readers gave 5-star ratings, and do a lot of hands-on preparation. The MCSE program is too challenging to have second rate study materials. Don't follow my example. Do your homework before you buy an exam-preparation book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Certainly not bad, but need more for the test, June 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE : Windows 95 Study Guide (Hardcover)
I read this book in preparation for the test, and I found it to be worthwhile. The test is A LOT harder than this book will prepare you for, but some chapters were helpful. I recommend this book in addition to other study materials if passing the test is your main goal. The book does have some typos but they're obvious and not a big deal (just scribble your own corrections!)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good prep, February 8, 1999

I found this book well written. On the one hand, it does not mire you too deeply in technical nuances, yet explains the concepts it presents with requisite clarity.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good reference, not complete enough for certification prep, January 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE : Windows 95 Study Guide (Hardcover)
The latest edition of this book (for test 70-064) was still riddled with many typos, confusing and incorrect information, and mismatches between review questions and answers. The book was also brief on networks (esp. Novell), which is a major thrust of the certification exam. Windows 95 Resource Kit and practice exams are good additional resources for anyone who wants to be a Windows 95 guru.

1.0 out of 5 stars Book was incomplete, many typos, December 23, 1998
This review is from: MCSE : Windows 95 Study Guide (Hardcover)
I throughly read this book cover to cover and used the accompanying cd and FLUNKED the exam!! I contacted one of the authors of the book, Lance Mortensen who verified that an incorrect answer was posted to one of the test questions in the Answer section. In addition, the questions at the end of Chapter 16 and the answer section at the back of the book were in a totally different order! I felt the book was hastily written and its networking chapter should have been more in depth!! I am currently studying with a Windows 95 resource kit that was recommended very highly by a friend who works for Microsoft!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good place to start., October 13, 1998

A Late Night Reader (Cleveland, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
This is a good book. It contains about 95% of what is on the 70-064 exam. I passed using this book as my primary study guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to understand & remember, not always technically right., September 11, 1998
This book has a great format and the good thing was that I remembered everything when I re-tested myself the following week. However it isn't always technically correct.

4.0 out of 5 stars The only book you'll need to pass the exam., February 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE : Windows 95 Study Guide (Hardcover)
The only title I read in preparation for the exam and passed first time with 914. Again, as with all the other Sybex MCSE titles, there are many grammatical and factual mistakes. Supplement this with the MS Prep Exams and 'Braindumps' from the net and you'll have no problem passing!
