5.0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs Up!!!
There wasn't one question on the exam that wasn't covered in this book. I found that using this book along with the Transcender Tests provided a great study tool for easily passing the workstation exam.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good place to start, but not the definitive resource...
I started with this book to get an understanding in the way the subject matter would be organized. As with all the other dummies books, the information is presented in a down-to-earth and sometimes comical manner. However, this book should not be the only book you buy to study for the test. 4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Certification. A must for non I.T. literate students., June 3, 2000
For the pass decade, IDG's Dummies Book had always make learning computers an ease, as for the second edition of MCSE: NT Workststion 4 for Dummies, it makes the certification much less stressful.

The book is organised in paragraphs that does not make you feel reluctant to read, the book also provides other relevant infomation that may apply in the real MCSE world, but not escessive that may bore you out.

I have experience that, some of the information and short test maybe misleading or confusing, that is why I reccomend to have a second book by a different author to assist my knowledge.

The Exam Cram: NT Workststion 4 is the other book I used. It's chapter seperations in this book are much simalar to the Dummies. But don't count on just the Exam Cram, it is not Microsoft Approved.

One last note would be that some of the explaination in Dummies uses terms from The X Files, Star Trek, etc. It is okay if you are into these sort of things, but if not, you can get confuse with the material and the humour. This is the only reason that I gave a four stars rating instade of five.

As with all the other dummies books, the information is presented in a down-to-earth and sometimes comical manner. However, this book should not be the only book you buy to study for the test. Some of the questions in its practice exams are not in the book, so it is sometimes hard to understand the answer. I would recommend this book to anyone taking the test and this was the first test I took. Oh, by the way, I did pass. Good Luck.

Written for someone who has not had much experience with computers. What you really need to be getting though is 2000 since this has expired.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is my textbook to pass the exam., November 1, 2001
By

Althoungh the exam has already retired, I can still imply that this was the book I use to pass the Exam. The companion study guide I use is the Exam Cram red book. However these books only allow you to pass the exam, not to really make you expose to the NT workstaion.

I did not just get the book (isbn 0764506129) but the Training Kit (isbn 0764506188) which packs with an Audio CD and a Scenario Book. The Audio CD hard to listen to, but the Scenario Book was properly the key for me to become a MCP.

The training insitute I went to gave me an NT4 Admin book from Wave Technologies (isbn188486215 or isbn1884486568) which had material that I find which was too hard to swallow, which led to my search for other 70-073 exams books.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't believe everything you read...., October 16, 1999
By A Customer
Doesn't anyone at IDG edit these things? This book is loaded with erroneous information. And I'm not just talking about typos (which are, surprisingly enough, few and far in between). I should have known what I was in for when the author got the system requirements for NT wrong. Then he referred to some mysterious "INTERNET LAYER" in the OSI model. (Oddly, much further on in the book, he got all 7 layers right.) Going through the questions at the beginning and end of each chapter was a challenge, since quite a few of the answers given were wrong, or out of order. (ie. The answer to #2 would appear at the #10 slot and vice versa.) The testing material is very good, but it asks for information that is never touched upon in the book proper, which makes you feel just like the person described on the front cover... a DUMMY.

It does have a few good points, though. For one thing, it's a very easy read. The book is very well laid out, and the information contained therein is very easy to absorb. (Actually, given the number of errors, this might not be a good thing.)

My recommendation? Buy this book AFTER you have thoroughly studied another, more reliable source. Then you can go through it, pick out all the mistakes, and have yourself a good chuckle. Better yet, save your money, buy a pizza, and watch an episode of "Friends" instead.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it!, November 21, 1999
This is my first purchase of an IDG book to study for a certification test, and I'm afraid it will be the last. The informations was not always presented clearly and I found the editing to be terrible. Not to mention that I could not always count on the information to be accurate. Go somewhere else if you need a book to help you study for this exam.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book and the Internet is all you need to pass, April 2, 2000
By
This review is from: MCSE Windows NT Workstation 4 for Dummies (Paperback)
I have passed 4 certification tests with the dummies books (server, workstation, enterprise, and a+ certification)and i will use these books to finish off my MCSE. They tell you just the information you need to pass the tests in an easy to read manner. The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is that there are some errors on the practice questions on the cd-rom. The other reason is the practice questions are too easy and not worded like the actual test.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT STUDY GUIDE FOR PASSING TEST, June 11, 1999
By A Customer
I had read the book I received from the atec I took the course at. It was okay the dummies book brought it all together for a grade of 900 not bad for a guy that never looked at a computer before 5 months ago. The only thing they should do is make the questions more difficult. I really recommend it to anyone looking for a good study guide for exam 70-073, also try the microsoft readiness review for workstation just to see a variety of different questions. GOOD LUCK TO ALL.
