2.0 out of 5 stars Too Many Technical Errors!
The book is written well, but I've found there to be too many technical errors in it. On page 79 it refers to a command as makedisk.exe instead of makeboot.exe, for one example. I've found myself spending so much time researching the mistakes, that I feel I would have been better off just studying some other book. If you get it just be certain that you don't use it as...

4.0 out of 5 stars A few minor adjustments and this one goes to the top., July 31, 2000
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Professional Training Guide (Hardcover)
Exam 70-210 is for the Windows 2000 Installation, configuration and administration of the Professional version of Windows 2000. New Riders has put together a book that covers each exam objective and allows you to learn at a comfortable pace.

The 800-page book starts off with the installation of Windows 2000 Professional, giving you the outline of what it takes to make the installation a breeze. Then moving on to administration and troubleshooting you'll find an abundance of information to keep the system running.

Next comes customizing and troubleshooting the desktop, this area will aid in the upkeep. Moving on to networking and networking monitoring and troubleshooting for those environments that deal with protocols, domains, and security and user policies.

Part two is the fast facts area of the book; giving you a condensed version of material used in the study of the exam. Part three is used to help you in taking the exam and how to setup and use the software on the cd-rom.

The CD-Rom includes the EXAM GEAR software for practicing the exam before you go live. While the installation is easy and the questions cover the exam objectives, there should be more practice questions included for the price.

Overall with figures, diagrams, step-by-step exercises, practice questions and the cd-rom you have an extensive set of training materials right at your fingertips. A few adjustments to the next edition and this book will be a the top of list.

This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Professional Training Guide (Hardcover)
I recently bought this book because I am starting to study for my MCSE and I was very suprised. This book is very well written, it has easy to follow lessons, and explains step by step how to set up the operating system. I would definetly recommend this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Oh, Really?, July 29, 2001

The book was purchased based upon high ratings. My impression of the product is that little effort was made to insure accuracy. The book comes with a CD containing 200+ exam questions that barely relate to the book’s content and often the answers contradict the book. The New Riders Web site contains an errata file containing 6 pages of reported errors and few of the errors I found were listed. If you buy this book, play to spend time cross referencing everything.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad, May 28, 2001
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Professional Training Guide (Hardcover)
Overall the book is decent. It needs to be revised to eliminate the obvious errors it has, however if you're familar with NT4, the errors aren't a problem since they will be very obvious. (MakeBoot, not MakeDisk, etc). I mainly wanted a Win2K Pro book to fill in information that is new to Win2K... and this book did just that. For the price, it's rather good... thought another round of error checking by the tech editor would help! If you're looking for a book to fill in the gaps between WinNT4 WS and Win2K Pro, get this! If you want something to learn from scratch, this book 'probably' won't be enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative!, October 15, 2000
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Professional Training Guide (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed this book. Every chapter was informative and well written, as well as easy to read. At the end of each chapter were multiple types of questions including scenario, labs, and simple general knowledge questions. The book also included a large "cram" type appendix with summaries of all of the chapters most important points.

I would recommend this book to anyone pursuing the MCSE 2000 Certification or anyone in the field who requires supporting Windows 2000 machines.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book but just too many typo errors, July 19, 2001

I bought this book recently after reading some great reviews it received. Overall, it is a very well organised book, easy to undertand, and I just love the 'Step By Step' instructions. However, it has too many typo errors. If you want to buy this book, I would suggest you wait for the next edition.
