All You Need,
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Server for Dummies (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
The For Dummies approach is just what is needed for a Certification prep text. Why read thousands of pages of poorly written, documentation-like, fluff when you can read a much smaller and simpler approach to the topic. This book gets you ready for the exam quickly and efficiently. It also reduces your need for expensive practice exams as the book is LOADED with practice questions. I can't wait for the rest of the series to be released in the For Dummies format. Also, note the LOW price for everything you get here!

Fast review - tons of questions,

I used this book, along with a few of the other W2K Server study guides to get ready for the test. Don't be fooled, the new W2K exams are difficult, but I found this book very helpful to get information quickly - and the hundreds of review questions are worth the price alone.

Dissapointed about the cd,
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Server for Dummies (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
When I start preparing for a MS exam I always buy a Dummies book. I used the For Dummies when I did the 70-098 and 70-210 exams so I bought this title without looking at the reviews. This book by itself would not have given me a passing score. There is nothing about Active Directory or Group policies in this book and I had quite a few questions on the exam about these subjects. The book did give me some good info and is good to start of with. Biggest dissapointment is the cd. Almost an exact copy of the 70-210 cd with a few extra questions. It hardly had questions related on the book. I just bought 70-216 and 70-217 from the dummies series because I think they deliver superb reading material.

Great Resource but obsolete test database,
By TMartin (Fairfield, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Server for Dummies (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
This book is a great reference for anyone wanting a quick and to the point learning reference guide. However, it is useless for the actual Microsoft Server test because the key focus and format of the questions in the book and the CDROM do NOT match the questions on the Microsoft exam. I failed the actual exam (miserably) after routinely scoring very high on this books assessment testing database. Do not trust the testing material in this book.

Rehash of Dummies 70-210,
By A Customer
This review is from: MCSE Windows 2000 Server for Dummies (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
I had great luck with the "Dummies" book for exam 70-210, but this was a disappointment. Coverage of DNS and DHCP was marginal and IP section ommited some important subnetting instruction, i.e. describing subnet masking. I used the Self Test Software exam simulation (which was fairly accurate) and it had ip issues in it that weren't covered in the book. The 70-210 "Dummies" book gave a good background which helped. I got 800 on the 210 test and 700 on the 215 with the same studying.

I used this book with Transcender tests and felt very comfortable hitting that submit button (and yes, I passed). Simmon's writing is pleasant to read and easy to understand. The the practice CD seemed to have a few errors, but the book itself is great.

A good place to start but not a 1-stop shop,
By Big John (Tokyo, Japan) - See all my reviews

I found this book to be a very good place to start but DON'T rely on this book alone to get you through the exam! There are several areas (e.g. Active Directory & Subnetting) that were not covered in the book yet these appear on the exam and others that are not covered in anything like enough detail. Also, while the test questions on the CD are a good way of checking your knowledge of the topics covered in the book they don't really prepare you for the questions you will meet on the exam. For this, I recommend using 3rd party (e.g. selftestsoftware etc.).

This book can bring you to understand easily and quickly. You no need to read a very large article to get the meaning.
