It's all there...If you can decipher it,
This review is from: MCTS 70-642 Exam Cram: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring (Paperback)
The first reviewer was right on mentioning the many typos in this book. A majority of books I read have one or two here and there; a missing letter, a misspelled word, but these are mainly novels, not study guides. A misspelling or a wrong word here can make the difference between crasping a concept or completely misinterpreting the idea.If you buy this book, you might as well throw out the "File Services" chapter. It's basically one big misprint. If you know what you're doing, this book will work for you. If you're new to the field, I would recommend buying a more complete...a more Edited book like something from Microsoft.

Slightly Worried,
This review is from: MCTS 70-642 Exam Cram: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring (Paperback)
After using the Exam Cram book for 70-640 and passing the test I enthusiastically purchased the Exam Cram 70-642. I'm only a couple of chapters into the book right now but felt compelled to offer a comment. Did anyone proofread this book? There are typos everywhere! Sometimes, a typo will cause major confusion. "I'm sorry, did the writer just say it will ping or it won't ping?" Also, the second chapter's practice exam is MISSING AN ANSWER! No #8. I'll finish this book and do my best to fill in the details. I have 11 years of Windows networking so I'm not thrown, but if you're coming in green I would steer clear of this book for now.

This book didn't quite measure up to earlier exam cram books I had been exposed to. It was very light in a lot of areas which are very heavily weighted in the 70-642 exam objectives. The practice questions were actually quite good and were, to an extent, a good measure of ones knowedge of the material.Overall it's a good book to use while reviewing for the exam or as a second source. One good point the book has it that it does a very good job of explaining Print and file services.

The File and Print Services section in this book is abhorant. Don't read it! You'll be confused. I have taken the 70-642 Exam three times: 1st time I didn't read or study and got a 680 of the 700 minimum to pass. File and print was a strong point, I was mid-point on everything else. Read the Exam Cram book. 2nd time got a 640 of the 700 minimum to pass, and my File and Print sections became an area that 'needs improvement'.What you should do instead is: 1) Go to Microsoft website [...] and select the sections of 70-642 Exam where you are weak. I did it and ended up geting an 850 on my 3rd taking of this wretchedly difficult exam. 2) Use Microsoft Press books as well as a practice exam program like MeasureUP or Transcender. I recommend those because they cover the gaps that the others don't. 3) Hands on is critical. You must have worked with the OS in order to pass this exam. Reading how to create a route vs.actually doing it is priceless. Download a trial of Sever 2008(R2) and get to work!

Exam Cram 70-642 - A real let down,

Littered with mistakes, one would guess the author wrote it in a couple of nights after coming back from the pub. His mind definitely was not on the job and it appears no one proof read it either. Unfortunately many of the mistakes are serious and will result in incorrect exam answers - I am having to double check everything I read. Unless you like extra work, buy a different book. Not quite sure how a reputable publisher could publish it as it is?

Passed the exam w/ the help of this book. Also did the MS Press self paced kit and the CBT Nuggets series for this exam, plus a week's worth of practice exams. Book was in near mint condition when it arrived, I just used the PDF version off of the CD.
