2.0 out of 5 stars A bit much, May 31, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: MCTS Guide to Microsoft Windows Vista: MCSE/MCSA Exam #70-620 (Paperback)
Unlike the others here, I have to say that I really can't stand this book. I've been using computers for over 10 years and know them fairly well. I recently took this book for a college course and to me, it was over the top. Too much about Vista's flash and flare, too much about features very few business actually would use, and it was overly technical. The labs are fine, but if you get the model with the Cert Prep CD it was just annoying. Maybe it's just me, but I find the majority of "Thomson Course" books to be really poor. I picked up some other books that were not done by Thomson and I think the information I took away from those books was much more satisfying.

I can't believe colleges are actually using this book. What business in their right minds would be using Vista as their main OS for computing...

So my opinion: Get yourself a better book. Maybe something from O'Reilly.

1.0 out of 5 stars Book is full of useless info and gotcha wrong answer tactics., December 11, 2010
This review is from: MCTS Guide to Microsoft Windows Vista: MCSE/MCSA Exam #70-620 (Paperback)
I am not wasting anymore time on this book but it was the worst I have read so far.
The core of the book and review questions seem to focus on useless information and poorly worded gotcha wrong answers..
It is hard to keep interested when you find the book repeatedly makes mistakes.

Example 1
Basic disk contains 3 logical partitions. how many of these partitions can be primary partitions.?
Books answer is 1

Well last time I checked you can can't convert a logical partition that exists inside of a extended partition to a primary partition..

Basic disk contains 3 logical partitions. How many of these partitions can be marked as active?
Book answer key says 1

Again last time I checked you can mark a logical partition as active.
But if anyone wants to buy my book I circled all the write answers..

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for college use, May 13, 2009
This review is from: MCTS Guide to Microsoft Windows Vista: MCSE/MCSA Exam #70-620 (Paperback)
I just finished up a semeseter using this book for managing a windows client. The book activities are pretty good and it does a good job explaining the Vista operating system. It's a good buy if you're planning to use it for a college class or any other reason.
