One of the better guides out there. A must for test takers or anyone who wants to know more about Windows Server 2008. The author appears to have a solid knowledge of Windows Server 2008 and presents the material in an easy to read fashion. Lots of screen shots and lots of good practice questions.

Would highly recommend.

It's just frustrating to be told you missed questions on a self study test, only to read the explanation and discover the test is simply wrong. The CD included is full of such mistakes. Moreover, the Sybex errata link just takes you to an "ask a question" form.

The material is not covered in depth, and the overall book seems shallow. Moreover, the test will be over the latest release, and this book is already three years old with no second edition.

The writing in this edition is better and easier to follow than other volumes in the series. There are significant errors in the editing, and a few in technical content. Potential readers need to understand at this juncture that the book covers Windows 2008 (6.0) and it's associated application infrastructure. The test for 70-643 now covers Windows 2008 R2 (6.1) with a greatly changed infrastructure set. Sharepoint, Terminal Services/Remote Desktop, and other services have all moved beyond what is covered by the book. In reality, the test number should have changed -- and if you could still take the old version of the test, I'd feel better about recommending this book.

The book is very well written and serves multiple purposes. Firstly, as an exam prep book, it has great information, questions and lots of hands on experience which is crucial for the new Microsoft exams.

Secondly, this book is a great resource for use at work when you need a quick reference.

I highly recommend this book.

The writing is choppy, confusing, and incomplete. I found sections that were near reprints of freely available Technet material. Overall, Sybex has been an awesome resource but recently missed the mark. Perhaps it says a lot that there are fewer choices than my NT days, it felt like they rushed to get the last few dollars from a once great franchise. I'm not sure I even would try the Mastering series now, although the author for that book is at least recognized from previous versions.

I even tried to look past grammatical errors, and came back to this book after reading the Microsoft press version to see if it was intended to be 'advanced' - a word I would not associate with this text. Complete disappointment.
