I bought the MD7161 and three extra handsets eight months ago. I have no complaints about thier functionality, but one by one the keypads have died - first the numbers then the dial and answer buttons. When the first one went, I put it in the garage thinking maybe just one was defective. Now I have to buy a new system, since I can only dial out on one of the four handsets.
I purchased one of the extra handsets seperately at Target and its keypad is dead as well, so it wasn't just a bad batch from one run. They may make very sylish doorstops, but don't buy these or any other Motorola units if plan on using them to make calls.

I purchased this phone per the reviews I've read and trust me folks, you will not be disappointed. Crystal clear reception, easy/soft push buttons, bright orange backlight, and whole bunch of other extras to go along.
Let's not forget about the price!! I got a great deal on this 3-handset with digital answering machine and the shipping was super fast(received within 2 days), NOW THAT'S FAST!!
I'm one of those people that loves to research anything and everything out there before I buy and when I came across the reviews on this phone, I had to check it out. After reading up on it, as well as the comments being very good, I bought it and again, feel I made a wise investment.
The answering machine is great also, very loud, clear and has 3 separate mailboxes which is great for personal, business, and what-nots.

Believe or not, I have purchased two other brands' 5.8 cordless phones before but returned them less than a week. But this time I have been using it for weeks already and I will keep it. It met all my satisfactions and I gave two thumbs up. The sound quality is crystal clear and the intercom is so handy. Best of all, the built-in three mailboxes is a nice feature and my kids felt repected because they have their own mailboxes. The price is no where else you can find and it is the best especially with three handsets.

It does work/live with DSL installed on the same line, ever heard of DSL filters? Too small? are you kidding? this phone is great all around.

After my old wireless phone finally broke down, I spent countless hours researching for a phone that was both stylish and functional (in that order). When I purchased this set I still had my doubts, but now that I've used it for almost two months, I can assure you that it is the best phone I've ever had. The style is unique and beautiful, the reception excellent, the page option is a plus, the multiple units a must, and the price extremely competitive

Features work as promised. Speakerphone in handsets especially helpful
for spouse who has hearing problem. Meets the criteria we set out before
buying.

We've had this set for a couple of years now. It's been a decent phone but as others have reported, the keypad on the most used handset has almost stopped working for Answer or End buttons. The sound quality is pretty good and we've had good luck with the speakerphone. The speaker and microphone are good enough to work hands free but you have to be close by the handset.

The only real complaint I have is with the buttons. Even when the set was new it was difficult to press the buttons. You have to press fairly hard on the keys to get the phone to accept it. Now, the keypad is starting to fail on the most used phone so we're switching it out with another, less used one. For now, the speaker phone button still works so you can at least answer it but the End button takes several pushes to make it end the call.

The phone is lightweight, easy to carry about. It comes with a clip on the back but there is little or no tension. The phone will come off your belt if you stoop over or squat down. The display is very clear, no problems with reading it day or night. You can pick from a few ring tones but not very many and they cannot be downloaded.

You cannot answer from the base unit or even see who is calling. I think the base is the only place you could check for voice messages, other than remotely. (You can call your own number when away from home, enter a code and listen to them.) I had a Panasonic that would let you listen to messages from the handset but I don't think that feature is on this Motorola.

We've had a couple of years of service out of this set. The last one was an AT&T and that failed shortly after the warranty expired. It seems like these home phone systems are getting worse instead of better. I have an AT&T 5510 speakerphone that is at least 10 years old and still works flawlessly. I'll make this one last until the next handset starts to fail then I'll be back on the market looking for another replacement.

I had these phones for last 2 years and nothing to complain about. excellent phones. battery is no longer holding charge. well after 2 years, it's not a complaint.

we purchased this phone for its looks: cool, stylish, rugged. however, over time, its buttons have started to fail (like many of the other reviews). the first button to "go" was the "phonebook" function. yes, it was annoying to have to remember phone numbers for friends and family, but this was not the fatal flaw.

now, the it is difficult to answer the phone and to end the conversation with the "on" and "off" buttons. this became very frustrating in many ways. imagine speaking to somebody on speaker-phone and end the conversation, but the person is still on the line!!!

prior the the motorola, i had a panasonic cordless phone which lasted years. this is the first and last time i purchase a motorola.

This phone has been excellent for our family. We bought an additional phone and base to add up to four handsets. The machine does blink when you have a message. It has three mailboxes so you could even set it up to leave individual messages for teenagers, etc. You can page individual phones if you cannot find one. For example, I page phone #3 if I cannot find it. With three (or more) handsets, there is never a problem of not finding the phone. There is a speaker on each handset if you want to put down the phone and continue talking. It works great. I have done it many times and the person on the other end has never noticed they were on speaker. The phonebook is easy to access by scrolling from the top or bottom of the A-Z list. There are also ten different rings to choose from on each phone. This phone has worked great for my family for a year and a half. I read some negative reviews that seem they may have been written for a different phone because the hands free works great and the handset is not too small.
