Did not work,

These tests did not work. We tested 4 strep positive patients with a hospital grade strep test kit first, then tested with this test kit. This kit showed all negative.

This product will allow us to do Strep Test much cheaper than what was available through local medical distributor. We serve the un-insured and are a free clinic so cost is always a big concern.

Playing with your child's life,

This review is from: MEDCHOICE Strep A Rapid Test Kit - Box of 25 tests (Health and Beauty)
You would be a fool to purchase this test for several reasons: rapid strep tests are technique dependent to get anywhere near the sensitivity and specificity they advertise. Is the receptionist the one swabbing your child's throat? Of course not, because they haven't been trained to do it. If you don't know what you are doing you shouldn't be doing it. So, you get a negative test and that means your child doesn't have strep right? Not so fast. There is a reason it isn't the gold standard and back-up cultures are used. If you miss strep your child may develop rheumatic fever. False positives are common too. An estimated 30% of children are carriers of strep at any given time and may test positive even though they are not ill and will not go on to develop rheumatic fever. This doesn't mean that you need to run to the doctor's office with every sore throat. Your doctor can determine if you or your child needs to be seen. I can't see a pediatrician calling in an antibiotic without seeing your child anyway. Why would a physician risk being sued by treating a child without seeing them? So, in the end, your results may or may not be accurate and it would end up costing you more money because you would have to go to the doctor anyway.
