Achieve Perfect Fit and Seal

In-Ear Fit Guide

Sound quality and bass response are dependent on the seal achieved between the ear tips and your ear canal. Please try the various sizes of ear tips included with your earphone to determine which gives you the best sound and comfort. The sound may change depending on the insertion depth and tip size.

To achieve proper insertion, pull up and back on the top of your ear (helix) and/or use a slight bit of lubrication/moisture on the outer part of the ear tips, which will help achieve the proper insertion depth and angle. If you feel your MEE earphones do not have bass or sound tinny, the fit and/or seal is more than likely problematic. You can visit the MEElectronics online product manual for more information and assistance.

Burn-In

Many owners have stated that the sound may improve with use when compared to the out of the box sound. This change in sound will occur with normal listening and is not necessary; however you can accelerate this process by playing music at a normal volume continuously for the first several days.

Introduction

First, I'd like to thank the folks at MEElectronics for sending me a sample for review.

Of all of the new products released by MEElectronics recently, the SP51 has been one of the most intriguing as it features a sound tuning system that allows users to tailor the sound to match their listening preferences. Now, the concept of a sound tuning system certainly isn't new and has been used before on IEMs from Sleek Audio, Hippo and Phonak but this is certainly new to MEElectronics IEMs and I was excited to see what they'd come up with. Read on for my review of the MEElectronics SP51

Packaging and Accessories

The packaging is fairly standard for MEElectronics which is to say that it's good but nothing spectacular. The accessory pack is rather standard too, featuring the familiar MEElectronics clamshell case, four sets of silicon eartips, including a pair of large bi-flanges and the three sets of bass tuning ports, which come in three colors: black, silver and gunmetal to distinguish one set from another.

Design and Build Quality

Many within the audiophile community will recognize the all metal housing design of the SP51 to be very similar to that of the Hippo VB, which also features a bass tuning system. The tuning system works well in practice, with the bass ports screwing on tightly and securely. The cable is, well, excellent. There's really not much that can be said about the cable that hasn't already been said several times over. It is still one of my favorites and one of the best I've encountered. At both ends, the cable is well relieved and should stand up to a decent amount of abuse.

When I ordered the SP51 Earbuds, I was expecting a lot. I have had a decent amount of experience in the headphone market and I have always had a problem stemming from the characteristic lack of bass commonplace in most in-ear headphones. Before I found the SP51's, the only headphone that satisfied my need was the Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 EB. While these were amazing, their durability was not. Soon enough, the cord failed me and I was forced to return them for a refund (they have been discontinued).

From that point on, I have been in and out of various headphones. I had accepted the notion that I would never return to the wondrous level of the Ultimate Ears. How wrong was I? The Meelectronics SP51 have been a godsend. The bass control is fantastic with everything ranging from a natural level of bass to a very low-end heavy sound. Regardless, the sound is always crisp and perfect quality. For perspective, I have even received complements from untrained ears. the refined sound is unbelievable and you will not be disappointed.

Don't hesitate to buy these headphones. I bought these after my beloved Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 EB ear buds broke. If you know anything about those phones, you know that they pound pretty hard with bass. I am happy to say that these may even be better. At a price tag less than 33% of the Ultimate Ears, these put my former earbuds to shame. Not only do these boast a fantastic bass response, they also are very articulate in their highs and mids. Additionally, these can handle all the power you can throw at them. In buying from Meelectronics, I was originally fearful as to what would happen when I plugged these into my cmoy amplifier. After doing so, I was sold. For $50, you can not find a better headphone. Oh, and on top of the low price of these phones, their construction is second to none. Completely metal casing on the buds and a perfect L-Jack. They also use a very tangle-resistant cord.

If possible, I would give 6/5 stars. BUY THE HEADPHONES! You won't be disappointed.

I was initially using Creative inner-ear EP-630 earphones. Then I saw these MEE earphones were on sale on a Cyber Monday deal & as my Creative EP-630s were getting rather worn out, I thought I'd give these ones a try. So when I ordered them, I was expecting the sound quality to be more or less the same. When I got them though, I was blown away by the difference. Listening to a song on the MEE SP51 was a whole new experience. I highly recommend this to just about anyone. & they come at a great price too! There is a very rich feel to the sound & you can clearly listen to the intricacies of whatever musical piece you're listening to.

They seem to have pretty decent build quality. The small carry case that they come with it is ideal for travel & it fits a few extra ear pieces as well as the tuning heads along with the earphones themselves. It took some trial & error on the different ear pieces & none of them fit my ears perfectly, especially while walking. But the default ones are good enough & it isn't any major inconvenience. The wire/cable is supposed to reduce the "tangled up" effect. & it does work, to an extent. Definitely better than the normal wires of regular earphones, but inevitably; these also tend to get tangled. The upside is that it takes less time to untangle 'em as compared to others.

The best part about these are the tuning heads. They're all great-sounding! I found the heavy bass to be the best for metal & hard rock while the mid-level one to be just perfect for progressive & ambient.

Overall, a great purchase!
