This "model" was very easy to build. For its many pieces i put it together in about 2 hours and it held up ok for about a year collecting dust. the problem was that it was so long and heavy it couldnt be played with or moved and when i tried after the year it bent and cracked in the middle. So it became knon as "Titanic the II"

Good grief- just when I thought I'd gained a modicum of maturity, I go and take another step back toward the womb. In this case, it was this particular contraption that led to my regression. Having been a Lego builder during my pre-middle school years, and a fan of naval vessels, I decided to relive my childhood for a little while with this little gem. Eight hours and two sore thumbs later, I managed to complete the task of assembly. And I must admit, this block model does have a pretty close resemblance to its real-life seafaring counterpart (aside from the somewhat- um- 'blocky' appearance, that is)! It even has an added feature that the real-life Kitty Hawk lacks: wheels! Yep, after putting it together, you can roll this naval behemoth along instead of dragging it! Definitely a wear-saver on wooden floors!

Although a few other folks have stated that Mega Bloks don't seem to adhere to each other as well as Legos do, I didn't encounter any difficulty with the finished product keeping itself together, except for some of the more weakly-anchored bits on the ship's deck (directional 'lights', thrust backwash flaps, etc.). My real problem was getting the blocks together- you really gotta push 'em in to get them to click together! I also had a bear of a time getting all the deck plates to be flush with one another- where no one plate was higher or lower than the other. I also had to deal with an elevator that wasn't level, and wouldn't stay in place. I try to put it up flat at deck level, and it just hangs a slight angle. Strangely enough, the other elevator didn't have these problems- it stayed perfectly flat with the plane of the deck. Of course, it could just be I didn't put the one elevator together correctly. So much for my career as an engineer...

My only other complaint is that the set comes with assembly instructions for just the Kitty Hawk, and not the other vessels depicted on the back of the assembly booklet. Although I'd like to try my hand at putting together these alternate configurations, I don't quite have the patience to figure out how to do it on my own...

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge, Accurate and High Quality, January 16, 2001

I bought this set for myself (I'm 30), as I've always loved block building sets, and also built many aircraft carrier models when I was younger. This set is pretty accurate with respect to the actual design of the Kittyhawk and carriers in general (although the decal instructions have the main "63" on the top deck turned 180 degrees the wrong way).

Structure is acceptably durable and the set is easy to build. You can pick the whole thing up and move it around without being too gentle with it. Pieces come in different bags by type so they're easy to find, and the instructions are extremely clear.

Pieces fit precisely and I didn't have any problems with fit or alignment. Color consistency is great. Kit was complete, and had some surplus bits, too. There are a couple of extra name decals in case you mess up the first ones. A few of the small pieces come on little plastic "trees" like plastic model kits, so you might want to help your child by using an Xacto knife to trim them.

It comes with 8 F-14 jet fighter planes that are also accurately designed. The elevator platforms on the ship even work and there is some internal space for storage!

And this kit is HUGE when it's finished; about 3 feet long. Really impressive ... a deal. Picture here doesn't do it justice. A LEGO set of the same size and volume would cost $125.00 easily, plus you'll have a bazillion light gray bricks when you're done. You won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars a very good toy for someone interestd in the military, January 5, 2002

If you ever had dreams of being in the military, then this toy is for you. The Aircraft Carrier i around 3 feet long with 8 micro machines type F-14 Fighters. It is an idel model for someone who is very patient, for it took me about 8 hours to make. The stickers are rlatively easy to put on, and it comes equiped with 2 elevators to lower or rise, wit storage spac inside. The ship comes with 5 wheels on the bottom so it can go just about anywhere. An if your a real Aircraft Carier enthusiust, and know how the planes take off and land, then you will find this one a great buy. Since this is a MEGA BLOKS brand, it is much larger and less expensive. The LEGO brand would have this priced [much higher]. I recomend this for anyone over 5 cuz it takes a lotof perserverance and patience.

Hi. I'm an 11 year old kid who LOVES military action and science. I also love anything that you can build or DESTRUCT!!!! Mwa Ha Ha!!!!!! I got interested in it when I first saw it at my freind's house yesterday. Extremely accurate, this model consists of over 1,700 pieces. I've had larger models, but this one would take a probuilder about say....35-42 hours. Not very long. I have found LEGOs very interesting (I own several hard ones), but MEGA Blocks are just the same. But, they're more reliable.

I played with it for a while and found its structure very well done. Details ar magnificent, but lacks realism. It's too blocky on the sides. It is educational in a way of structuring, and it is very fun. It rolls on wheels so you don't have to worry about the bottom scraping the floor. Without that, the bottom would just tear up the floor, but also damaging the model badly.

The submarine and the shuttle each took about 4 days to build due to the size and the complexity of the instructions. This one? 6 hours. I was disappointed that it didn't take longer to build. I think the main reason is that out of all those pieces about half are the 2x4 standard building blocks. It was a lot of fun to build, with 3 gun turrets that move up and down, 1 turret that can turn 360 degrees, and two plane elevators (or whatever they're called). To me, though, it wasn't worth the price they're asking.

Be careful putting this together. In a few areas, the thing would break apart if you use too much force or you don't have your hands in the right place for support.

5.0 out of 5 stars If MegaBloks were a lady I'd marry them!!!, April 29, 2004

This is going to be a review of 4 different MegaBloks sets (The Kittyhawk, Seawolf, Destroyer and Battleship). A friend intorduced me to MB's one day when we were talking about me building an Aircraft carrier out of that 'other' block building comany.

I called the company, asked a few questions only to find to my horror that the Battleship was out of print, the Kittyhawk and Seaworlf were hard to find and the Destroyer was thankfuly still easy to get. What happend over the next month was maddnes.

I bought 1 Battleship (from eBay), 1 Seawolf, 3 Kittyhawks, and 5 Destroyers.

I put the Kittyhawk together in about 8 hours over three days. It was fun and got the ideas flowing in my head. After I bought the other sets I made my own USS SARATOGA (CV-3) using the MB instructions and altering them as I went. After that I built various Navy ships using the sets I had. While still keeping the Kittyhawk and Saratoga together.

The educational value is that any kid that puts these together, I would hope want to leanr more about the ship they are building. The Kitthawk looks more like the Enterprise to these eyes but it's all good. For those that are wondering the USS Kitty Hawk (CVA-63) is the the Navy's oldest active warship, built in 1956 and launched in 1960.

If you are still reading this, I must say while I was brought up a Lego kid, I prefer MB's due to the mass quantity of bloks in their sets. As I write this I have ordered one more Kittyhawk, Seawolf and probably going to get a few more Destroyers.

I just finished the USS CONNECTICUT (BB-18), but had to take apart the others to do this, however it was worth it.

As and end note, I'm 31 and still building.

this is a great model! it was so fun to build! i definetly loved this product! it had so much detail and color on it. it came with jets to put on the upper deck! some features include:parts of the deck that could move up and down, "storage space", a tall control deck with massive radar equipment, cool guns that could move up and down and side to side, and cool stickers to make it look real. not a good model if you like small models. it has over 1,700 pieces! it took me about 3-4 days to complete. Best model i've done yet! Very, Very COOL! it looked very realistic. Again a must-do-model!!!!!!!!!

I love military action and I love to build things. Now, I've been a fan of Legos forever and I never thought another brand was better before I bought this. Mega Bloks are way more durable than Legos and Mega Bloks also makes way better designs than Legos. Well, anyway when I bought this I got started right away. The instructions can be confusing sometimes but overall they pretty good. I finished about 9 hours later. It takes a long time. But, when I was done it was worth every hour and every cent. It comes with 8 mini F-14 planes. The detail is pretty accurate and it is about 3 feet long. Overall this USS Kittyhawk model is great. Its now on display in my room and it looks so good. The decals add a great finishing touch. There is even fake mini cannons and a rotating one too. Buy this and you won't be dissapointed. Trust Me.

I AM 21 YEARS OLD AND I AM STATIONED ON THE USS KITTY HAWK. I BOUGHT THE MODEL ON A SUNDAY AND FINISHED IT ON MONDAY. THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY IT IS FOR AGES 11 AND UP. MY ROOMMATE AND I PUT IT TOGETHER AND HAD SOME TROUBLE. KIDS MUST BE GETTING SMARTER TODAY BECAUSE I WOULD FIND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS AT A YOUNG AGE. IT IS A GREAT REPLICA FROM THE ORIGINAL. I ONLY SAW A FEW THINGS THAT WERE DIFFERANT. I HOPE THEY COME OUT WITH MORE MODELS OF NAVAL VESSELS.I RECCOMMEND THIS MODEL FOR OLDER KIDS OR IT WOULD MAKE A GREAT FAMILY PROJECT.
