This review is from: MERC: A Modern Role Playing Game of Counter Insurgency [BOX SET] (Hardcover)
OK, OK, the system was written in 1981.
No, there are no Manga references. You do not have a graveyard to resurrect in if your character dies, and eating a pie will not restore you to full health. Shew! This is an old school role-playing game with all of the warts and glitter that that implies. The system is simple and uses basic mechanics. You can literally learn to play in fifteen minutes. The rules are all contained in less than 30 pages. It is a blast and my group has played it many times. If you can find a copy, I highly recommend that you pick it up. MERC loses one star, because you have to make a table rule about advancement. The rules only cover about 80%. You have to interpret how much experience allows you to advance abilities. Our table rule is two minor increases per successful mission. Two minor increases also equal a major increase. (That makes sense if you buy the product.) :-D |
