I'm glad that Bill Baldwin has gone back and "cleaned" up and expanded the storyline...it makes a great read for scifi space opera people..some can be too wordy with explanations but Bill has it worded,I feel,just right....can't wait for the next book in the series...thanks Bill Baldwin

This is a fun book to read. The entire series is a Space Opera of grand scale with a hero that just cannot fail and gets all the hot girls. This book will not change your world, but if you want to read something that is just fun, this is your book.

This was going to be the 4th book of a 7 book story, ending in the release of a new book called the Turning Tide. Now I read the first space opera in this group. 1 and 2 (The Helmsman and Galactic Convoy). Those 2 were right on the money, Some questions answered,Following the story line. The third book,(The Trophy.)All of the fans of this book wondered what happened to Anna Romanoff, well now we know. Now to get to the book I am here to rate the Mercenaries,Good story, however not the book I was wanting to read, the interpersonal story is there,However the action is changed. The Starfury the name ship of a whole new line of ships as Prince Onrad called them a pocket battleship as it was a heavy cruiser with the power to fire the guns of a battleship. In this new offering they are aerospace planes a light ship that takes a squadron to take the place of the ships in the first offering of this book. Also this book seams to the last book in this rewrite of this series. The reason I say this is at the end of the book(The Mercenaries) were the words THE END were seen, I have now seen those words in this series or I until this this latest offering. Now I am a Bill Baldwin fan from the word go,I own all his books both the old ones and the new. But I found this rewrite of the Mercenaries Hard going. For people who have never read this line of books before (my wife loved it) they will find nothing but great writing.
