Product Description

The Emberlit Camp Stove is a lightweight, compact, and easy to use wood burning stove that doesn't require you carry any fuel. It packs completely flat at about 1/8" in thick, weighs only 11.3 oz (Stainless steel) or 5.45 oz (Titanium). Properly fed, the Emberlit Stove requires minimal effort to produce and maintain an even flame with little or no smoke. A couple handfuls of twigs and sticks gathered on the trail is more than enough to boil water and cook a full meal. Dimensions: 5" x 5" x 6." Made in the USA.

I've used this stove camping a couple of times now and I like it's simple design. It's easy to set up, burns nice and hot, and uses a multitude of fuels. You can use biomass (sticks, pinecones, bark, dried dung, etc) or you could use a small alcohol stove, or sterno fuel, esbit cubes, etc. I like the idea that it is flexible based on your needs and available fuels. The stove is sturdy when assembled - a pot full of water placed on top is stable as long as the stove is on a level surface. If you use biomass be prepared for a lot of soot on your utensils, and on the stove. The stove is very light weight - useful for everything except the most intense ultralight packing situation.
As of this writing, the stove does not come with a case. My suggestion is Custom Leathercraft 1100 Multi-Purpose Clip-on Zippered Poly Bags. You get 3 tough nylon bags in 3 different sizes. The middle size (blue) is absolutely perfect for the Emberlit Stove. The pouches have a heavy duty zipper and a swivel clip to make attaching to your gear easy.
Overall I think this stove is well designed, easy to use and a good price.

We purchased the Emberlit Stove and a Solo Stove at the same time to compare features and suitability for our motorcycle camping kit. They are both fantastic minimalist, eco-friendly camping stoves that have different personalities. The Emberlit folds completely flat and will store in almost no space at all, while the Solo takes up the same space as a typical 900ml pot or cup. The Solo requires essentially no cleaning, where the Emberlit needs to be wiped down or carried in a separate bag to prevent soot and ash residue from getting on the rest of your gear.

Two important observations about the Emberlit Stove:

1. The panels will warp over time due to heating and cooling of the metal. While this doesn't affect its performance, it can be annoying to get the "ears" lined up when trying to assemble the unit. I have to use significant pressure to get the panels to snap down into each other sometimes. This same warping can also make the panels very tight to take apart after the stove cools down. I have learned to work around it, but it still annoys me.

2. The stove is not insulated at the bottom, so you have to be careful where you place it before you start cooking. The metal gets VERY hot everywhere and will scorch nearby grass (or a wooden picnic table... oops). In contrast, the Solo Stove is well insulated on the bottom and can be placed just about anywhere without damaging what it is sitting on.

Overall, the stove is very light and performs VERY well with a variety of bio fuels. The fuel options are more flexible with the Emberlit than the Solo because of the open feeding hole on the side. This allows you to use longer sticks and branches to feed the fire than you could with the Solo.

I just received my Emberlit stove in the mail a few days ago (only two days with free non-Prime shipping!) and it didn't stay pristine for long as I immediately set to work making a fire in it using small twigs and sticks from around my house. It performed beautifully with a strong smooth flame out of the top of the unit if it is given a steady diet of sticks. It eats wood just a bit faster than I thought but burns clean, strong and hot. It helps a great deal that I can feed it slightly larger and very long sticks through the side port as they are burnt down (looks like you are feeding a robot!). I boiled some water for some hot chocolate in very little time. The stove is smaller than I thought, but I love the size and once assembled it is super sturdy. The only downside I can note is that it is fairly messy to put away with all of the soot on the inside of the stove. This will be the case with any disassembling wood-burning stove, but it is a nuisance and worth mentioning.

The main reason I wanted to write this review is that I've read a lot of reviews that indicated it would be better at this price point if the stove pieces came with a case. MINE DID! It is not the most robust thing in the world but it certainly works. In addition to the large thick ziplock style plastic bag, the stove pieces also came in a flat sleeve made of woven bright orange nylon on one side and clear plastic on the other side, which is secured with a snap. Pictoral instructions for assembling the stove are printed in white on the clear plastic side of the sleeve. Its not the most durable looking thing in the world but it is a nice addition to the package. Also worth noting is that it came with the pot-stand cross bars even though they were not mentioned in the product description.

Fantastic woodburning stove. I have all three: the larger size and two in the "El Mini," or smaller size (one in stainless, the other titanium). I have bought and made dozens of woodburning stoves, but they are either too bulking, flimsy, or have to be fed every two minutes. The Emberlit in all sizes are so well made you can drop them, almost stand on top of them without one wiggle from the stove. But the most important feature of the stoves are thier intense heat. Once you get them going(I use a top burn down method, using a vaseline cotton ball to get the small twigs on top going) you can then after 15 minutes feed long sticks into the side port. Forget those other woodburning stoves. I have them all and they now just sit in storage. The Emberlit is my only go to stove.
