Novie Stars are the new doll line from MGA (makers of Bratz), the line currently contains 4 dolls and each has a special quirk.

Alie Lectric lights up and changes colors
Ari Roma Smells nice (and has glitter legs for some reason)

Una Verse has a body that contains water and glitter

The dolls are about 7-8 inches tall and are very stylized with rooted hair. Each has antennae, an outfit, pet, and a glow-in-the-dark base and the three besides Mae come with shoes. Since this review is about Mae I'll focus on her. She talks through a button disguised as her right ear and says seven phrases in autotune computer speak (with stutters to simulate glitching). The phrases are:

Spaced out!
*giggle* Don't get your circuits in a b-b-b-bunch.
COSMIC-C-C-C!
Yikes! C-c-c-circuit overload!

They're all cute and with nothing offensive. I was actually really pleased with the talk function. Unfortunately she does have a wig for hair and due to the slipperyness of her head it has trouble staying put. This is an easy fix as a dab of glue (use elmers so you can pop it off to change the batteries) will work wonders. Mae also can't wear shoes which is a serious problem if you spend cash on the fashion packs which you will want to as her base outfit is just a skirt. :/ no top of any kind is given. Mae has the added benefit of legs that pivot at the waist though. Giving her more articulation than the other dolls in the line.

Pros:
cute and a great concept.
Talks in very cute and appropriate phrases.
Creative doll, robot girls aren't done much.
eyes with depth, not just painted on.

Cons:
Somewhat inarticulated body. Arms only bend at the shoulders, elbows/wrist/knees/ankles don't move, legs only pivot poorly at the waist. For as much as they cost articulation would have been nice.
wig is slippery.
Can't stand without the base
A bit expensive when you compare to other fashion doll lines
A tad fragile.

So I like the ones I bought but I'm an adult collector. I'm worried that these will be too fragile and easily broken for kids, the arms pop right out and can get easily lost. That said they are really cute and offer some space exploration themed play if you want to try to go the educational route. It would require added materials though. (I've combined them with Star Trek and posed my Capt. Kirk figures with her) :)

My girls (ages 5 & 7) were over the moon for these & I have to admit they are REALLY cute looking & I dig they way they sound, BUT ... they are really awful! It's almost like they were made for doll collectors not kids because they come apart really easily & the wigs don't stay on AT ALL. Also, don't brush the hair, because the fibers get very tangled & frizz up.
They were just ga-ga over them & wanted the whole collection after seeing the webisodes, but after we got this one they were done. At least they were somewhat cheap.
I wish they would not market to kids when it's obvious that they are not meant to be handled or played with.

My daughters are 6 and 8 and have 4 of these Novi girls - super cute dolls, but WHY did MGA design the arms and head to pop off so easily? They need to revisit the design to ensure that the arm "catches" in the socket. It's a bit disappointing to the kids. Considering the price tag, we will not be purchasing anymore of these cuties in Future. Purchase only if you are considering them for display purposes.
