I bought this product based upon reviews and what I had read about what my current charger was doing to my rechargeable batteries. This is a quality built product, not the cheapest, but the best quality. I want the charger to re-charge my batteries, not shorten the effective life of the battery by overcharging. The "conditioning" feature seems to work well.

I recently took this charger with me on a 2 week trip to northern China. My camera uses AA rechargeable batteries. The charger worked well, no problems with input voltage difference. It was also easy to pack.

I bought this charger in 2005 to use with Powerex NiMH rechargeable AA batteries. It's been the best battery charger that I've ever owned. It's been out of the country with me several times, where it ran fine on 240 volts (with a plug adapter when necessary). With 2000mA output, it recharges my AA batteries quickly, and I've never had a problem with it.

It's only now that I'm retiring my old Powerex AA batteries after 7-8 years of fairly heavy use, so I'll probably retire the charger too. It's been a good one, and I recommend it as a solid, reliable battery charger.

This is absolute junk. It won't revive any of my old batteries. Just flashes red telling me the batteries are bad. Also this thing is supposed to charge triple A's. I must be stupid. Triple A's are a good quarter inch too short. I see no way to make them fit. Documentation is terrible. What a waste. Too bad I can't give this a zero. Save your money and go out to dinner. Bound to be more rewarding than this.
Also of note, this thing will charge UP TO 2,000mah double A's and 700mah triple A's. Too bad my double A's are 2,700mah and my triple A's are 1,000mah. This tells me this thing is really outdated.

Edit: I originally said this charger is junk. and I stand by that statement. I recently bought some new AA Eneloop batteries. I put 4 in my Nikon digital camera. Went to a bike show and exhausted the charge. Put these in this charger and it just flashes red, telling me are bad. WHAT? This is the first charge! Charger remains cold and will NOT charge the batteries. I put the batteries in my old Maha charger (MH-C204F) and it charged the batteries up and put them right back in to play.
Also the 'conditioning' feature is a joke. It's supposed the be automatic and has no user control whatsoever. It won't revive your old batteries either. It will just flash red telling you the batteries are junk. I trusted that and threw a lot of batteries away. But telling me my brand new batteries are junk? C'mon folks, avoid this so called charger and shop for a Maha MH-C204F. This charger is now 9 years old and still works like a champ. The MH-C204F is cheaper and has a deep cycling feature that YOU control.

I tried several different brands of AA NiMH batteries, and the charger just flashed red for all of them, meaning (according to the instruction manual) that it doesn't recognize them as NiMH batteries or that they're internally shorted. All of the batteries measure a little over 1.2 V on a Fluke digital multimeter, so there's nothing wrong with them. It's the stupid, useless charger.

Maybe it only works with their own brand, or only with new NiMH batteries, but that's NOT what the description says. It specifically recommends using it with old batteries, which mine are.

I bought two of these chargers, and both do exactly the same, so it's not just a lemon.

... it only lasted 2-3 years before the AAA's quit charging correctly.
Now when you put in AAA's the lights just flash as if the AAA's are dead, but the AAA's I'm using are NOT dead, the battery charger is just no longer working properly.

I really like the fact that this charger:
a) charges quickly
b) doesn't have one of those "big brick" transformer type plugs
c) is lightweight for traveling
d) did a great job until it failed

The fact that it failed after just a couple years really bugs me. I would think a product like this should last at least 4-5 years.

I only use it for maybe 2 batteries a week, max; sometimes maybe only 2 or 4 every 2 weeks...

So all in all this is a great unit but I can't fully endorse it due to its failing relatively quickly.

Problem is, I don't see anything else in this price range, and especially anything else of this quality (when it is working, that is), in this price range. And another problem with many of the charges on the market right now is they have only a swing-out AC plug instead of a cord. And then the ones that do have a cord, have those big brick transformer type plugs.

So I don't know. I may have to buy another one of these anyway.

p.s. By the way, I had a previous MAHA unit - the kind with the big brick transformer plug instead of the regular plug like this one has - and it failed in just a couple years, too.
If anyone has a recommendation for one without a swing out plug and without a transformer type plug, that works well with Eneloops, please let me know.
