I use this review whenever I go to New York City, although I use it along with Zagat. There is a great deal of overlap, but Zagat lists many more restaurants. I have never been disappointed with a Michelin starred restaurant, although one has to be prepared to spend a great deal of money to dine at one. Some expensive restaurants have specials for lunch and the Michelin Guide might do a better job of pointing this out.
Terrific book, with the expertise of Michelin. Restaurants sorted by area within NYC, and then presented in descending order of quality of dining area. Most reviews have photo of restaurant, and precise location information. Excellent for finding really good food in New York.
I got this book for my father who is a big foodie. I have browsed through the book myself, but will update this review when I have the chance to sit down with it and do a more detailed review.
Just to note: This book is NOT meant to be an all-inclusive guide of every single restaurant in NYC - there are hundreds if not thousands of restaurants in NYC. This book highlights restaurants worth visiting.
Some highlights of the book: - very helpful fold-out map of NYC and legend towards the front of the book - very good personal descriptions of experiences at the restaurants - easy to read, helpful glossary and index
My father has already used the book to on a recent trip to NYC (will report back with the name, but it was a vegetarian Indian restaurant), and he was very pleased with his meal. The book is very well done and continues the Michelin Guide legacy very well.
I live by Michelin NYC recommendations... almost always spot on...... I bought the 2013 based on past good experience with Michelin NYC but to be totally truthful have not had time to size up the current edition.
