3.0 out of 5 stars Works, but feels very "Cheaply made"
I'm using this PC Card to add 2.0 USB connectivity to an old Laptop that I got. It was so old it had only one USB 1.0 port.
This card certainly does the work of improving data transfer. Before it, I had a little hub connected to the 1.0 port and an external disk hooked up, and it would take like 15 minutes to transfer a 700MB movie file from the external to the...

- Comes with an additional Power chord for the USBup. This is a must, if you are planning to use the USB for external device which take power (External hard-disk, iPod, Zunes etc.). My Dell laptop's mother board started acting crazy because I made the mistake of using power consuming devieces on the original USBs. But with Micros Innovations I can trust the external power source to take care of these devices
- Great service by Amazon - My first package throuugh UPS was sent to my previous address and even thought it was partly my fault, Amazon immediately shipped a replacement.

Bad
- Like any other PCMCI card, it portrudes outside the laptop, so one has to be careful in moving the laptop around when it is plugged in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Life saver, July 19, 2007

I didn't realize how important USB ports were until I lost both of them on my Inspiron. What? Can't synch my iPod or move my pictures? This did the trick - so long as you're not already using your PC Card slot for something else like network access hmmmm.

For the price, the Micro Innovations USB 2.0 is perfect. It's easy to install (didn't even ask for a driver, Windows XP just set it up on its own) and gives you 4 USB ports as opposed to many others that give you only 2.

Comes with an external power supply (this one, for a change will plug into a power socket, rather than another USB port -- unlike others) -- However, I didn't need to use the power supply, as it works fine even without out.

Definitely a 5-star product.

As I have been attempting to hold onto this laptop for awhile longer, I found that I needed faster USBs to keep up with everything else. This was just the ticket. The only downside is that it does stick out the side quite a lot and needs its own power source. At this point I'm using my laptop more like a desktop model anyway, but if I do have to travel I anticipate that this contraption will be staying at home. Still, it does what I had hoped it would, and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind sacrificing a bit of portability for speed.

I have a dell lattidue with only one older usb port...I plugged this into the pcmcia slot and now have an additional 4 usb 2.0 ports. All my devices worked fine...As long as it doesn't break down in the next year or two, I'll be happy.

My laptop's USB ports suddenly stopped working like 6 months ago, I updated my drivers, reinstalled windows... and nothing. You never realize how you depend on USBs until you loose them. So I have been thinking on trashing the laptop & buying a new one.... until I found this PC Card!! for around 25$ I have USBs working again! Works great plus comes with external power supply!

What a perfect tool for a laptop challenge. My IBM R40 only has 2 USB ports, one of which is taken by a wireless desktop which refused to work with any USB hub available. This Micro Innovations USB750r Micro USB 2.0 4-Port PC card was ideally suited to the need. It installed with little effort and has performed flawlessly since. Thanks to Amazon for a speedy delivery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Great - Easy to install..., October 2, 2007

This review is from: MICRO INNOVATIONS usb750r Micro USB 2.0 4-Port PC Card (Personal Computers)
I have a Gateway laptop with 4 USB ports. Two ports are used by my Verizon Broadband USB connection and the other two are used by my SeaGate FreeAgent external hard drive. I love them both and need them both, especially when I'm on the road. That meant no more USB ports for say a mouse or keyboard or USB Memory Stick.

I'm at a client site and for an extra $3.99 I opted for 1 day shipping. I ordered the pcmcia USB port on Monday afternoon and received it Tuesday afternoon. The price was right on Amazon too.

I haven't used my PCMCIA slot since I've owned this computer so the MICRO INNOVATIONS usb750r Micro USB 2.0 4-Port PC Card seemed like a great way to take advantage of it. Note: I opted for the Verizon USB Broadband interface instead of the PCMCIA type because it could then be used both desktops and laptops. I wanted that flexibility.

The instructions say to install the software from the CD before inserting the card so I didn't try the plug and play route (I usually do). Especially after reading the review regarding unable to install. Anyways I ran the exe file, rebooted then plugged in and it worked without problems.

Bought a cheaper 4 port USB Cardbus elsewhere and all it would do when installed is freeze my computer. Tried this one and it was immediately recognized by Windows XP and works flawlessly.

I'm using this PC Card to add 2.0 USB connectivity to an old Laptop that I got. It was so old it had only one USB 1.0 port.
This card certainly does the work of improving data transfer. Before it, I had a little hub connected to the 1.0 port and an external disk hooked up, and it would take like 15 minutes to transfer a 700MB movie file from the external to the internal disk or to the iPod. With this card, it takes like 2 minutes.
It's good enough that I'm now considering to add an USB hub AFTER this card, so I can have more high speed capability.

The only gripe I have with it is that in general it feels very flimsy or weakly constructed.
I've had other PC cards (modems, microdisk, etc.) and they feel solid. This one feels "plasticky" and tends to bend under the weight of the cables attached to it... in fact it bent so much that the silver plastic cover detached completely and I could see the actual circuit board bending too. It seems the plastic cover just snaps in place via some tabs on the sides of the card.
I guess applying some superglue to affix the cover can fix this and provide some more rigidity, but I was aghast when I saw this problem after using it for one week.
Luckily the thing is still working, but If it breaks down I'm definitely not replacing it with the same make/model.

---Update---
It's been a year and a couple of months since I got it, and it keeps going. Keep in mind that this has been inside a laptop that has been semi-permanently fixed under my desk, so this item has not been enduring much travel.
