3.0 out of 5 stars Nice product many things are not supported.
Ok it's cool and as of the newest drivers it seems to work fairly well. Be advised though a lot of things are completely unsupported by this monitor. Here is some of the unsupported stuff:

ATI Crossfire if you have a problem and are using crossfire you will get no help from their support and it's pretty much incompatible with it.

DX9 games...

I purchased this as a lap top dual screen display hooked to a Telescope taking astronomy pictures. The photo's are viewed here while I do other things with the computer. The low profile fold-up capabilty is unique and perfect for my limited transport and storage needs. The construction is better than I expected and the USB power needs fit my application (AC power is not abundant where I set up telescopes). The picture quality is equivalant to what I get on my lap top and hook up was straight forward on VISTA. The USB cable is not an issue. A dual-port USB came with the monitor but that was too bulky (and long). I replaced it with an old Olympus digital camera single port USB that had the same connector (but much shorter) and it works fine. So far (one month) the UM-71OS has done exactly what I had hoped for. There are no "CON's". The price is well worth the unique features (fold up, USB power, and rotational screen). I would and have recommended it to friends and associates.

I purchased the Mimo 710S for two applications. At work, I wanted a third monitor to dedicate to Outlook while my other two monitors were used for applications that require more screen real estate. I also wanted some elbow room for my netbook, to give room for notes or a chat window while I worked on the main screen. The Mimo 710S accomplishes both of these things.

Don't let the USB cord fool you--if your computer has USB 2.0 ports, then you only need to use the data cord, not the second integrated power cord. This is great for netbook use if, like me, your number of USB slots is limited.

Setup was simple on my work computer (Vista), a little more challenging on my netbook (XP). For those without an optical drive, the drivers are easily accessible online, and a simple reboot took care of my connection issues on the netbook. The work computer managed it all without a blink.

This is not a large monitor, and it doesn't pretend to be. The resolution is good enough for YouTube, and doesn't take up that much processor to run, even on my netbook. It is good for your ancillary applications that you don't want to have to ALT+Tab to check on, or to have video or something else you're monitoring while you work on the main screen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!, July 14, 2010

I received the monitor quite quickly. It worked out of the box without using the installation disk that came with it. It creates a nice little pocket desktop for holding my IM clients, mp3 program, clock, ventrilo, and any other small utility programs you might run. Also, I use one monitor for my PC and my multiple game systems. This little monitor lets me keep track of my messages and email while using my main monitor for things like console gaming or watching a blu-ray movie.

The only downside, which isn't due to a specific property of the monitor, is that you cannot mouse over to the monitor while in a full screen game without alt-tabbing. Even so, I've found it to be quite useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but with a few cons, August 30, 2010

The product itself is great and a perfect portable addition for those who work a lot on Netbooks or other small computers. Unfortunately, Windows 7 had a hard time installing the driver itself. Plugging in the device kept trying to install an old version of the driver which wouldn't work. I had to uninstall the default driver and install fresh Windows 7 driver. The driver resulted in a blank screen, but after a restart everything worked just fine. Not sure why others haven't reported issues with Windows 7 install, but for me it required many restarts, and trial and error, but it eventually worked.

PROS:
Great extra real estate for netbook
Great contract and brightness

CONS:
Windows 7 driver installation a pain even with the latest driver available online
Screen occasionally becomes unresponsive and requires pulling the USB and plugging it back in
Screen will occasionally lag
Angle of display is only slightly adjustable in landscape mode
Angle of display in portrait mode is not adjustable
Angle of display in portrait mode is so far back, it only makes sense if screen is positioned well below eye level

DX9 games unsupported. Not sure if that means just on the usb monitor or not but I have only had problems with one game on my primary monitor.

Any hybrid graphics system (mainly in laptops I believe) unsupported.

Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Oblivion will crash to desktop with the monitors software installed only way to play those games is to completely uninstall the Displaylink software not just unplug the monitor. Not sure if it's supported but the problem has been raised in the Displaylink forum for over a year now and Fallout still doesn't work. I myself posted the problem in their 5.6 beta driver forum and have yet to receive a response. They might not be talking to me because I use crossfire.

Basically Google Displaylink as all these usb monitors seem to run off their drivers and read to see if you are supported or not cause if your not you're sunk with a $150 paperweight and thier are many more thing that are not supported including software so make sure programs and hardware you use are not on the list.

Overall the monitor does work well for me and looks great. I am running crossfire and a hybrid graphics on my laptop and have only run into the Fallout problem which seems to be with everyone no matter what you are running. It just doesn't make me feel good that a product advertised for ease of use and plug and play has very specific hardware requirements. I gave 3 stars because the problem with fallout has been reported for so long, not solved, and I was not responded to when I posted the problem also all computers I own are unsupported due to their graphic configurations. If they were officially supported and Fallout worked by unplugging the usb monitor or a driver fix this would be a five star product easily. Looking through the forums it sounds like they have come a long way with their drivers but are not quite there yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent monitor for mobile Macintosh users., March 12, 2010

This review is from: MIMO UM-710S USB Powered 7 Inch Swivel LCD Screen Mini Display (Personal Computers)
I have a 13 inch Aluminium Macbook and a rather small Axio backpack for it so I was looking for a display small enough to fit into my bag. I use this display to park those annoying little toolbox windows in MS Office, Omnigraffle, Photoshop etc. that always seem to be getting in my way. I also use it for things like terminal and console windows since I would otherwise have to constantly switch between them and Xcode/SQLDeveloper/Eclipse or what ever other applications I am working with. The display is a little bit on the small side, I would have liked it to be 800x800 pixels but I'm not complaining. It can be rotated into both landscape and portrait orientations and folds up with a protective cover over the LCD into a package more than small enough to fit into the my very cramped backpack. The one thing I think could be improved would be automatic switching between landscape and portrait modes by simply rotating the display. As is the OS X driver has to be manually switched between these modes via display preferences. The display works excellently with my MacBook the only problem I ever had was when I unplugged the monitor while the computer was hibernating and the OS did not seem to realize it had been removed and kept the second desktop alive even if the monitor was gone but that only happened once.

You can't ever have enough screen space and this little monitor is a great way to added a small extra monitor to a system (even one that already has two large monitors or has otherwise maxed out its maximum capability. I've used it with both a Macintosh (Snow Leopard) and Windows (XP) without any problems at all. It has a simple one cable set up and the software is easy to install and something you never have to think about. It perfectly integrates into both operating systems and looks like any other monitor as far as the computer is concerned.

This little screen does have some limitations, its not particularly good for video and certainly not suitable for fast 3D gaming but otherwise it's great to keep your IM or email up in a separate out of the way location. The resolution is 800x400 (or 400x800 since you can rotate it) and is very clear and bright.

Another nice feature is its very portable, it folds up into a thin, self-protected package smaller than a paper back book and considerably thinner (more like a readers digest now that I think about it). I've had mine for about a year now and its carried around a lot and still working flawlessly.

Small and USB powered. Perfect for what we needed. Using the monitor on both Mac and PC's. Everything works as advertised. Vendor went out of their way with follow up emails to make sure delivery was on time and as expected. Great service!

I ordered a Mimo 710S from Satechi a couple weeks ago and I love the product. I use it for CAD and Photoshop work, and the ability to drag my toolbars or any reference work to the external screen is fantastic. As a student, I can even bring it to class and not have to worry about needing to plug it in for AC power. Surprisingly, it doesn't drain my battery that fast either (I've got a new Macbook Pro). Shipping was super fast and the product was of great quality. I'd highly recommend it, and the fact that it folds up and out of the way is worth the extra money.

This review is from: MIMO UM-710S USB Powered 7 Inch Swivel LCD Screen Mini Display (Personal Computers)
I purchased the MIMO UM-710S LCD Screen Mini Display with some trepidation. I was concerned about the size, the resolution, and the battery drain when used with a netbook. However, upon receiving the unit all of these concerns evaporated. The display is bright and crisp and produces only minimal battery drain on my netbook. Setup was as easy has hooking up the USB. Windows 7 took care of everything else. The display automatically extended my desktop so I truly have a dual monitor nebook system. The unit is built solidly and makes its own case when folded up. I am very impressed with this unit and highly recommend it.
