Caron Chalmers has visions; she sees and feels the situations of others. What powers this novel is that these situations always involve people that are in dire trouble. Caron is also burned out, burned out due to a vision which led to an action that turned out very, very badly for the (then) kidnapped.

Now suddenly, a year later, she is having visions again. This time she sees that a small girl has been abducted, and rushing to the police, she reports this vision to Hershel "Sandy" Sanders. Sanders is the detective that she has worked with in the past, but when she gets there, she finds that it is not just Sandy that is waiting for her. There is also gorgeous hunk and private detective Parker Simms, who is also the son of the well-known hero cop Charley Simms. Simms clearly has a grudge against Caron, because what Caron doesn't know is that Parker's partner Harlan had committed suicide when the case he and Caron were involved in went sideways. Parker holds Caron responsible, and considers her a fake, and is bent on destroying her.

The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a report of any girl fitting Caron's vision having disappeared, so Caron is having trouble having either Sandy or Parker taking her seriously.

Then the visions start coming faster and more intense, and she's having more flashbacks to her previous failure. As she is experiencing even more guilt over her failure, and as she is becoming even more driven to make up for it, she is getting physical threats that are escalating in intensity from somebody who mysteriously knows about her.

The problem is the sexual tension that is between Caron and Parker.

Was an ok read but there were times that I wanted to strangle the main character Caron. A huge portion of the book could have been cut if the characters had a conversation. Now, I'm all for a character getting mad and stomping off all while drawing the wrong conclusions (did he really sleep with her, did she really say that about me, etc) but when it becomes a total cliche just to fill word count - that's when I have a problem. Sure we all get huffy and want to storm off when someone pisses us off but like I said, a huge chunk of the book could be cut if not for the "misunderstandings" and lack of communication.

Overall though I liked the book. It had a good plot and kept me wondering what was going to happen to the main character. The ending drew everything total nice and neat.

Psychic, Caron Chalmers suddenly knows that a little girl has been abducted. Her psychic powers have been in abeyance for the past year. Ouch! suddenly they have been reactivated.
Sandy! She had to call Sandy. Detective Hershel Sanders with whom she has worked since she was a seven year old.
When she finally got to Sandy's little cubbyhole of an office she found that he was not alone.
The man with the black Porsche was sitting by Sandy's file cabinet in a black leather bomber jacket.
Big, Brawny, Beautiful -- were words that came to Caron's mind but suddenly she knew that he didn't like her.
He was a friend of Sandy's, a Private Investagator - Parker Simms. He did not believe in psychic powers nor in Caron's abilities.
Caron was still tormented by the Sarah James case she had helped Sandy solve last Christmas. Only the outcome had been horrendous.
Parker had been trailing Caron for the past year and had no evidence of her having any powers. He was going to prove that she was a fraud and take her down.
You really need to try this book - It keeps you on the edge of you seat - power packed and fast moving and DANGEROUS as Parker almost loses Caron. Such involvement and romance makes for an excellent book --- WOW!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - not bad for a 93 book and just as good a second time around.

The Mind Reader started off a bit slow, with some repetition in setting a background for the reader. However, it became more interesting as it progressed. It is a mixture of a love story and a low- emphasis psychic involvement. I would recommend it for easy reading.

Begs for a sequel !! Please continue the romance, and the mystery.
Caron is an Empathic Psychic, she feels and sees what the victims do, her last case almost killed her, when she misread the signs and went to the wrong place and the woman she was racing to save was murdered. Now after a year of her gift being dormant it returns with a vengeance. The images she has are of a little girl and time is running out. The cop she has always trusted pairs her with a private investigator that frankly thinks she's a phoney, and the fur and sparks fly. The chemistry between them is the sparks the distrust is the fur, and while they agree that IF a child is in danger they must act, Now Caron must convince everyone else there is a case, and a little kidnapped girl named Misty's like and Caron's hang in the balance. Drama, arguments and sexual attraction turn the heat up just to the right temperature, with betrayal and mistrust just waiting to trip everyone up. Vicki Hinze spins a great mystery and love story together and makes you want a sequel very badly because the dynamics of this duo need more cases to explore.
