Now suddenly, a year later, she is having visions again. This time she sees that a small girl has been abducted, and rushing to the police, she reports this vision to Hershel "Sandy" Sanders. Sanders is the detective that she has worked with in the past, but when she gets there, she finds that it is not just Sandy that is waiting for her. There is also gorgeous hunk and private detective Parker Simms, who is also the son of the well-known hero cop Charley Simms. Simms clearly has a grudge against Caron, because what Caron doesn't know is that Parker's partner Harlan had committed suicide when the case he and Caron were involved in went sideways. Parker holds Caron responsible, and considers her a fake, and is bent on destroying her.
The problem is that there doesn't seem to be a report of any girl fitting Caron's vision having disappeared, so Caron is having trouble having either Sandy or Parker taking her seriously.
Then the visions start coming faster and more intense, and she's having more flashbacks to her previous failure. As she is experiencing even more guilt over her failure, and as she is becoming even more driven to make up for it, she is getting physical threats that are escalating in intensity from somebody who mysteriously knows about her.
The problem is the sexual tension that is between Caron and Parker.Read more ›
Overall though I liked the book. It had a good plot and kept me wondering what was going to happen to the main character. The ending drew everything total nice and neat.
Sandy! She had to call Sandy. Detective Hershel Sanders with whom she has worked since she was a seven year old.
When she finally got to Sandy's little cubbyhole of an office she found that he was not alone.
The man with the black Porsche was sitting by Sandy's file cabinet in a black leather bomber jacket.
Big, Brawny, Beautiful -- were words that came to Caron's mind but suddenly she knew that he didn't like her.
He was a friend of Sandy's, a Private Investagator - Parker Simms. He did not believe in psychic powers nor in Caron's abilities.
Caron was still tormented by the Sarah James case she had helped Sandy solve last Christmas. Only the outcome had been horrendous.
Parker had been trailing Caron for the past year and had no evidence of her having any powers. He was going to prove that she was a fraud and take her down.
You really need to try this book - It keeps you on the edge of you seat - power packed and fast moving and DANGEROUS as Parker almost loses Caron. Such involvement and romance makes for an excellent book --- WOW!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - not bad for a 93 book and just as good a second time around.
Having true psychic abilities is rare and to those who are gifted in that fashion it is also a truly tormenting experience. People look at you differently and befriending someone is near to impossible, because people are afraid you can read their thoughts. Most people however do not believe in physics and belittle those that claim they are. Occasionally Police Departments across the United States have used psychics to help in solving crimes. This story is fiction, however true psychics are not.
Caron Chalmers is a psychic mind reader. She has been gifted since the age of 7 to see images of people. Unfortunately for her they are all victims. She sees what they see, feels what they feel, and goes through it at the same time as the victim. She also gets images of their captor's. Caron's latest victim is a 9 year old kidnapped child and one that Caron is desperately trying to save before it's too late. She enlists the help and support of Det. Hershel Sanders, they have worked together before but this time he is skeptical, the last victim died because of a grave mistake Caron made and Sanders got demoted. Before their meeting Sanders decides to bring in a Private Investigator, Parker Simms, an acquaintance, for his reaction to the images she's receiving now. Somewhat shocked and surprised Caron has no other choice but to work with Parker who has clearly made it known that he dislikes her intensely and does not have any faith or belief in what she does. In fact he thinks her a fraud. If she has any hope of saving this latest victim she not only has to work with him but has got to get him to change his mind about her psychic abilities. Parkers' true agenda? complete and utter revenge. What a story this book tells.Read more ›
