+:1. Stainless Steel, robust 2. Better price than any other models -: 1. Cannot finish the bottom part of the vegetable 2. Blades not sharp enough 3. Thickness control not easy to adjust 4. Too big in size

Not sharp enough,

Although this mandoline is sturdy and fits together well (as far as changing the blades), the blades were not sharp enough when I received them to easily slice or julienne pototoes or carrots. I would think they should go through the slicer much easier than they did. I had to really bear down hard, and the slices were really choppy, rather than smooth.

Dull and useless blades,

I bought this exact item for about $20 at a Tuesday Morning store that mostly carries items that were returned from stock at other stores. The slicer is solidly built and looks beautiful out of the box. But the looks are deceiving. The problem is that the blades are so dull that the slicer is completely useless. You must use a lot of force to cut with these dull blades. Moreover, carrots and potatoes will end up smashed up rather than julienned if you try to use the fine blades.

sitting on the counter, but I have to agree with the other reviews about the blades being too dull to cut anything. Not at all the piece of equipment I was hoping for.

The idea is great, but the unit is inferior. My $20.00 plastic, hand held unit works better than this equipment. The blades are very dull and it is extremely hard to cut food. I doubt that anyone will be completely happy with purchasing this unit.

Poor value,

I bought this last year hoping to step up from the inexpensive plastic one I had used for years. I really thought it was French. HA! Made in China and the biggest and best feature of a mandoline (it's blades) were very poor quality. Not at all sharp enough to easily slice potatoes or carrots. A dull blade is the cook's worst danger. Oh, by the way, I spent $70 and it's now $20. What a rip-off.

instructions not good,
This review is from: MIU France Commercial Stainless Steel Mandoline Food Slicer (Kitchen)
I haven't used this yet, and the reason is I am having great difficulty assembling it. There is no helpful instruction on how to put these blades on, and no pictures. The instruction leaflet is uselsss! Its ok if you're a guy used to this kind of stuff, but for a widow, its impossible.

Pros:will cut cucumber Cons: won't cut anything stiffer than a cucumber straight rather than diagonal blade julienne cutters are a total failure

A pleasant surprise.,

The low ratings almost dissuaded me from making this purchase. But then, I've always wanted a mandoline, so when this went on sale for $19.99 I finally made the plunge. First off, I was pleasantly surprised by its build quality. I love the sturdy stainless steel construction -- makes for very easy cleaning. This mandoline goes far beyond just looking pretty and making your kitchen look cool, though. In addition to the usual julienned carrots, cucumber slices (flat and rippled), paper-thin veggie garnishes, I have been using mine to make flat and rippled chips, cross-cut fries and French fries. It's actually quite fun to use! This is my first mandoline so, before it got delivered, I tried to pick up some techniques from MIU's YouTube demos (links are on the MIU site). I tried to follow them as much as possible, but being short (I'm 5'1"), I don't have the height (and thus leverage) needed to properly press down as shown on the demo. I found that slicing outward works better for me (I'm right-handed so the mandoline is slanted downwards to the right). I'm only giving this four stars because I wish the handle gripped better. An accessory blade that can cut thinner than a French fry but wider than julienne strips would have been nice, too.

Disappointing,

This item only gets a star because it looks good. Otherwise it's useless. The dull blades make it a dangerous tool to use in the kitchen. For liability sake, I think Amazon should abandon this product. The people who gave 5 stars, must have been paid to do so, or they don't have the same product that I do. |
