I had purchased another brand of scale, digital with batteries, and had nothing but problems. So, I decided to go 'old school' and use something that required no batteries, no electricity, just a good old fashioned scale. Best choice I ever made. I use the steel bowl to hold flour, seeds, etc, and you can set other things on the scale to use for weight measurement, too, such as a 2 cup liquid measure. Easy to zero out and accurate. I would recommend this scale for baking if you want to weigh by the ounce. It probably isn't the best for fractions of an ounce, but it's baking, not rocket science. My grandma never even used a measuring cup, just a coffee cup and I loved everything she made!

My scale just arrived all broken. The red hand is not on a dial, it fell of and was on the bottom of dial. the plate had dents in it. i took scale apart to put the hand back, but
there is no hope of having the scale work...hand just falls to the bottom instead of staying on "0"...have to return it...too bad!

Admittedly, I didn't invest much in this purchase...I've seen some very high-tech digital scales out there. I was well aware this is just an analog, simple scale. But wow...did anyone else think this was simply the cheapest piece of junk they've ever seen? I'll let you know how my baking adventures go...if the measurements are close enough to get by...at least it looks cute and I can convince myself I'm a baker from Provence.
**UPDATE** Well, the engineering of the product seems cheap, but it looks cute and it seems to be doing the job. All my recipes have turned out just fine. Seems adequate enough!
