5.0 out of 5 stars Great sharp slicer! February 14, 2010

If you know what you are doing - and how to use it - this is a fantastic slicer. You NEED to be careful or you will slice off your finger tips (This is for ALL of these types of slicers so this one is no better or worse than any others for losing fingertips.) :) USE the food holder!

It goes EXTREMELY thin - which I love for thin garnish work and potato gratins. A great slicer for fries and jullienne cuts. This is a professional device for a very good price. The adjustable nob on the side works well. (If I were to change anything it would be to have a changeable waffle slicer so you can have more than just the small waffle cuts. BUT - the quality of the slicer makes it extremely easy to be fine with not having that feature.)

You are able to order replacement blades for the main blade. And there some good videos on the website to help coach how to use it.

To the negative reviews. One complained of it being made in China - BIG DEAL - good luck getting a majority of the items we use in the US if you want to boycott China. And I believe the other - a "chef"? - complained about slicing sandwich meat - yeah - this isn't really for that. (Maybe it was a different similar slicer.) You can kind of get away with using it for that as long as you par-freeze the meat you want to slice. (Which I do when I use it for things like Beef Jerky or Asian Beef Skewers (Same cut essentially.))

Overall - great slicer - I highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice tool for specific tasks January 24, 2010
Even if you're a talented home cook, there are some tasks you can't do with any other tool. Slicing onions or bell peppers for sandwiches, potatoes for chips, cutting veggies like fennel or eggplant perfectly even so they cook properly. I have used inexpensive mandolines and slicers but find this to work far better. It's a few-frills gadget with some nice features.

This is not the first MIU product I've owned and am generally a fan. They are well made and not as expensive as comparable items with more popular brand names.

Pros: sturdy, stable, rinses clean easily. Easy to adjust and the dial turns smoothly rather than 'clicking' into place - so you can get the exact size you want instead of pre-set intervals. Carrying case is nice although it takes up more room to store. (I can't imagine needing to tote this around, not being a traveling chef.)

Cons: like any of this type, there's a risk of injury. The plastic holder is useless, as a previous reviewer stated. So get a cut-resistant glove and use it every. single. time. And only use while sober.

3.0 out of 5 stars O.K. But know this November 7, 2010

As one who knows good tools when I use them this one has just missed the mark. The food holder is not guided on rails as the $200 Bron model appears to. The plastic holder rocks and rolls and it is easy to run it into the blades. The waffler blade which is positioned after the main slicer will not adjust flush with the slicing table. On the return stroke while slicing, while avoiding making shreds with the waffler blade, it must be lowered to the point that there is a curb or bump while drawing the food back uphill for the next slice; on mine so much so that the item being sliced will roll out of the food holder or your hand. Will and additional $125 bring better manufacturing and a holder on rails? I recommend hands on comparison before purchasing. I will return this one and hope the next one does not have the bump or curb problem. With that said this was $65 and you usually get what you pay for. I'd spend more to avoid these defects.
