5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and accurate
I replaced my old oven thermometer since the small print had become difficult to read w/o glasses. This one is very easy to read and shows the same accuracy as my old one. As with other MIU products, I'm very pleased with the high quality and the low cost.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as accurate as you might hope
My oven has always been much hotter than the number on the dial. So, a while back, I bought a Taylor oven thermometer (Taylor 503 Connoissuer Line Oven Thermometer) which I hated because it was hard to read. So recently I bought this MIU one and a Sunbeam one (Sunbeam, 90300, Oven Thermometer, Stainless Steel) because it was 4 for 3 and I was tired of not knowing the oven...

My oven has always been much hotter than the number on the dial. So, a while back, I bought a Taylor oven thermometer (Taylor 503 Connoissuer Line Oven Thermometer) which I hated because it was hard to read. So recently I bought this MIU one and a Sunbeam one (Sunbeam, 90300, Oven Thermometer, Stainless Steel) because it was 4 for 3 and I was tired of not knowing the oven temperature.

Then I turned my oven on to somewhere between 325 and 350F, put all three thermometers in the same part of the oven, and let it heat for a while. After 10 or 15 minutes, I opened the door and took a picture of the thermometers so I could get their readings at the same time.

The results were:
Sunbeam: approx 380F
MIU: approx 360F
Taylor: approx 380F

So, the 380-degrees have it. Anyway, my cooking experiences have led me to believe that my oven is more likely to be off by about that much.

The MIU one lost the battle of the thermometers, but 20 degrees isn't that much (compared to my oven at least), and the thermometer is relatively easy to read, so I still give it three stars. But the Sunbeam one is better.

Bought a pair to test for hot/cool spots in my new oven. They're probably "reasonably accurate" but I was disappointed that 2 brand new "commercial" oven thermometers would read so differently from one another.

This is a cool little gadget that I should have had long ago. Now wonder I always burned things! Hang one off a rack in your oven and you will know exactly what your oven temp is! Tells you if your oven runs a little hot or cool and you can adjust your cooking accordingly. It's made of stainless steel and the dial is easy to read through the oven window. There are several little hooks to allow you to hang in different places. This is definitely something that should be in every oven!

A few times after I started using this product, the indicator stopped dropping below 100. Not sure of its accuracy anymore.

3.0 out of 5 stars Questionable quality, November 29, 2010

This is my second MIU product and both were made in China. The quality feels questionable, especially for a $15 thermometer. Feels like a $3.99 kitchen gadget. The metal feels very thin. While in my hot oven, I used tongs to adjust the thermometer's location. The hanging hook bent a little after I barely touched it.

Accuracy seems good so far and adjusts within a few minutes. I just don't think this thermometer should have cost so much, though.

I used it to verify temperatures in a new oven. It proved to be quite accurate and gave repeated accurate and consistent readings.

1.0 out of 5 stars Made in China? Run., July 5, 2007

Given that I was in the market for a new oven thermometer, and given that the reviews of most of the available thermometers were less than encouraging, I decided to buy both a Polder and an MIU and test them against a Taylor mercury thermometer.

Right off the bat, the MIU was off by 25 degrees. The Polder was dead on. However, within one day, the Polder was off by 40 degrees. But since they were so cheap, they're not worth returning.

Moral? Save your money and buy a mercury oven thermometer on eBay. They generally go for less than ten dollars and there's no guesswork involved as to their accuracy.

The oven thermometer we had been using for years was not accurate anymore so I looked on Amazon for a replacement. This highly rated thermometer is very accurate and easy to read. Now my cakes don't burn anymore.

Either my oven is perfectly calibrated and this thermometer is dead-on accurate, or by exquisitely unlikely conicidence, they are both equally off. It is easy to read and you can hang it off a rack. The only part I do not like is that because the base has a cut-in, (the purpose of which I have not figured out -no mention in package materials), it is hard to set it on a rack without having it fall over, on its own, or when you move the rack. Still a good value. If anyone knows the reason for the u-shgaped cut-in on the base, please clue me in.
