My knives are a crucial part of my kitchen and I want only the best for them, so I wanted to go with a magnetic strip.

Hiding your knives in a drawer is a shame, can be dangerous if they're just free floating in there, and can also dull them if they bang around with other items. Not good

Keeping knife blocks on your counter eats up counter space and is just bulky. Many times I have to guess which knife is in which slot too, and if I have knifes that don't fit in the block, or more knives...I end up with knives in the drawer or multiple blocks. Not good.

My knives are beautiful and I love having them displayed out in the open. It also makes for easy retrieval. I hung this strip up right up above where I work, so when I need to switch from my Chef's Knife to a Paring knife, I just reach up, grab the handle and there it is! Very easy, no having to fumble to open a drawer or guess which knife it is in the knife block.

Of all the magnetic strips I've seen, this one is the largest, heavy, durable, great styling, and has the best quality. My only want for it is to be bigger...although, if it were any longer, I would have a hard time finding a place to mount it, so I think just buying another one would be the way to go.

It doesn't have to just be for knives either. I have many steel items that I think would be perfect mounted on this strip. The possibilities are endless!

Bottom line, I would definitely recommend a magnetic strip as a way to store knives. I would definitely recommend this strip over the others if you care about quality and looks.

I have an incredibly small kitchen that's just finishing a remodeling two years in the making. Since no walls were knocked out, utilizing every square inch of space is still a priority, and this knife rack does it in style.

But since the kitchen's so small, you might be wondering why I went for the bigger knife rack. That's cause the place I intended to put it is on a cabinet that butts up against the cooktop. The cabinet's the traditional 24 inches wide, so this rack centered perfectly in that space, and enabled me to toss the counterspace-eating knife block.

Stainless steel's a big component in this remodel, so this knife rack fits in perfectly. I put it up myself, so let me warn you - it's HEAVY. I drilled two holes at the right height, but for the life of me, I couldn't screw in the rack towards the backsplash. A hint you might helpful is to use masking or painters tape to tack up the center of it until you can drive the screws in (leave the easier screw out a bit so you have room to maneuver; when the back screw is in, you can tighten both.) See? All those hours watching home improvement shows weren't for naught!

The one thing I found a bit puzzling was the "S" design in the rack. I couldn't tell from the pictures if that was a recessed or raised design. Well, if you were wondering, let me tell you it's a cut-out S. At first I thought if it was raised, I'd only have enough room to store the knives between the raised design, but because it's just an incised figure, you can put as many knives on this thing as you can jam! (There are two magnets, the long, thin, horizontal strips that frame the S design.)

The knives are held firmly, but it's easy to remove them with little effort. I know some folks seem to be having a problem with it. I'm scarcely Superman, and I have no difficulty pulling them from the rack without beheading anyone.

If you have the space, go for the 20 incher. You'll save $20 over Amazon's suggested retail, and it's a better buy than the smaller model.

I highly recommend it, esp. if you want a design statement that adds to the appeal and space demands of a small kitchen.

This knife holder looks great in our modern kitchen. The magnetic strip is very strong and holds our heaviest butcher knives easily. Pulling the knives off a strong magnetic strip takes some getting used to, but I've already gotten to preferring it over pulling my knives from a drawer. It saves so much space in a litchen w/ limited counter space, I've had people come over and comment on what a handsome and practical piece it is,'

Good solid construction. Looks great. Easy installation. Perfect size. Magnet perfect strength. Just remember to put the back of the blade to the magnet first, then turn the knife flat onto the magnet. Otherwise you'll mess up the knife blade.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best I've owned and stylish too, November 17, 2005
This review is from: MIU France Stainless Steel Magnetic Knife Holder, 20-Inches (Kitchen)
The first time I saw one of these was when I worked in a professional kitchen. I've had a few over the year since then and honestly don't ever want a kitchen without one. I actually had a half wall built just to put this one on in my current kitchen.

Anwyay, this one is better than average because:

It mounts more securely than average and more easily.

The little round black end is actually a piece of plastic that you can pop out to get at the plaster anchors. Then they are covered again. This is much better than the Wustoff one I used to have that basically hung off the screws on the wall. This way is nice and solid instead of a little wobbly.

Also, the magnet is just the right strength... not to strong. Many bars are too strong, so you almost stab yourself wehn you pull the knife off. Also, some are too weak to hold cleavers. This one is just great.

Also, I thought it might look kinda cheap, but it's really solid and nice. The outer ring is brushed aluminum or steel... not sure. Then it has a chrome center and the black caps. Looks great a stainless appliance kitchen or black stone counters... or both.

Also, this is the only one I could find in sizes as small at 15". If you have a small space, that would be handy too.

Get one. You won't regret it.

easier to retrieve knives for use and looks terrific! Bought this just before Christmas, 2004 to hang my 8 brand new Wusthof Grand Prix knives on and 2 pairs of Henckels kitchen shears. I'm happy to say that this thing is a rock!! It has never become loosened from the wall and not one of my knives have ever fallen off it. In addition, I've only once had to sharpen a few of my more often used knives. With the big, bulky wooden storage block, I would have sharpened them several more times by now, it's off my counter and not taking up valuable counter space and no more "sawdust" created from sliding knives into spaces (no wonder I had to sharpen them more often)! I love this thing! I have had several compliments from people who are observant and they wanted to know where they could get such a nifty, great-looking thing to hang their knives on. Of course I told them Amazon had the best price.

My only regret: That I didn't buy a bigger one! Am planning to purchase 6 Wusthof Grand Prix steak knives and since we use steak knives so often I want to hang those, too, but, alas my great magnetic strip is full up! Think I'll purchase one of the smaller magnetic knife strips....

My Husband finally put this up in our new home.

I love it.

I thought this looked too big at first, but when I started to put up our knifes, I was VERY Happy I choose this size. It filled up fast with knifes. I Would never consiter the smaller size. Just make sure you have a place for this before ordering.

The knifes are out of the way, and out of the reach of any little kids, unless you have little kids that would pull up a chair, and grab a knife, but then again, they could just as easy open a drawer!

This is more up to date, and "so much Easier to See what knifes your grabing for", then useing the wooden blocks.

I hated haveing those two big wooden blocks to hold my knifes.

There old fashion, take up way to much room , and made my kitchen look cluttered, and I think ugly looking.

The Magnet on this was much stronger then I thought it was going to be, which is great.

This is also heavy, and I hope the screws and all that came with it hold up, or we will just have to use heavier type of screws. So far, So good.

This was easy to install, which is a big thing with my Hisband who is unhandy.

I have 9 knifes and a Kitchen Sizzers hanging on this, and still have more room, which I know will fill up fast.

Its a must have, love it and the size.

For the price, the product is what you would expect--made in China, imperfect but will work for most consumers.

I have several complaints with the proudct. First, the magnet will not hold my stainless steel knives horizontally-only vertically. This is because any knife that is balanced will necessarily adhere to the magnet imbalanced (since you cannot mount it at its median point). Unfortunately, the magnet is not powerful enough to compensate for this imbalance, and the handle slid down (even with a paring knife), resulting in scratches to the blade and a dangerous instability. I have found that you must mount the blades vertically or, alternatively, upside down (underneath a shelf).

Secondly, the mounting screws (included) proved too long for my cabinetry. I had to improvise with shorter screws, although this worked out ok. Anchors were also included. There were two mounting holes. Installation was easy.

Thirdly, the magnet scratched awfully easy, and also scratches the knife. This may or not be a big deal for you. Some customers consider knives a work of art and should go with a bamboo block or knife case instead.

All in all, the product works ok, but there are better magnets out there (but cost more).

4.0 out of 5 stars very secure yet items easily removed, April 12, 2008
This review is from: MIU France Stainless Steel Magnetic Knife Holder, 20-Inches (Kitchen)
Strong enough to hold my 10-inch cast iron skillet without sliding but can easily be removed by mastering a twisting motion that doesn't require great strength - by far the best I've seen. I know, it's for knives, but I want you to know how strong it is, and yes, these racks are great for keeping other tools handy. The downside, however, is that it itself weighs nearly 4 pounds and needs to be solidly mounted - my husband says the best is to the studs rather than just the wallboard. The complaint is that the mounting brackets are spaced at a non-standard 19 inches. My other complaint is that I was expecting a 24-inch magnetic strip. In reality, the magnetic part is closer to 18 1/2 than 19 inches and the overall length is 20 inches. Also, the attractive stainless steel shows fingerprints and scratch marks, so be realistic about your own expectations. I've tested other racks that are strong enough to securely hold knives, but don't have these problems.
