I work in a nursing home kitchen and this is the best thermometer we have ever used. The on/off switch moves very easily, the temps register very quickly, and it seems to be very water resistant.

I have found this thermometer very helpful when cooking fish and chicken on the grill. Sometimes it's hard to tell if something is done without cutting it open. I have not had any problems with the plastic melting, and I've been using the thermometer regularly for a year. I don't think the thermometer is intended to stay inside food while cooking.

This is a fantastic thermometer. Yes, it may not be an "instant" reading; rather, it takes about 5-8 seconds to stabilize to a general temperature. It is not meant to be left inside the food in the oven... it says so specifically on the packaging. I don't think it would melt if you did that, but it would probably damage the LED screen.

Others have complained that it "only" reads up to 302 degrees, not 500. What are you going to be cooking that needs to be over 300 degrees anyway? It is not meant for testing the temperature of oil, water, etc... if you use the thermometer for its designated purpose (testing the temperature of meats), you'll never find anything faster and better for this price. The only flaw that I have found is that it is more difficult to use with thinner pieces of meat, like thinner steaks and boneless-skinless chicken breasts. The best way to test the temperature for these foods is to stick it in the end of the meat through to the middle. This could cause the loss of valuable juices though, so be warned.

One other issue I've found (which is simply caused by my stupidity) is that it can be easy to remember to turn off. I'm not entirely sure if it has an auto-off feature or not. It does come packaged with a separate battery though, which is nice of the company to do. So, just remember to turn it off after each use, and it should last several months to a year on one battery, depending on how often you use it.

I bought this to use in making yogurt. It is easy to use and to read. My only problem is the clip to attach it to a pan. It is similar to the clip on a ball point pen and does not work for pans with a lip, only pans with flat edges.

A good thermometer for the price, but definitely not instant.

Instant read digital thermometers are a must for safe kitchen cooking and also to prevent overcooking. This is a good one. It is identical to the excellent Pyrex instrument which has apparently been discontinued. The price is reasonable. It reads in both Fahrenheit and Centigrade temperature scales (selectable).

Works fine, reads quickly. I guess the quality is not in top, as the first one that I have received could not switch to Fahrenheit. The second one works, we'll see for how long.

I wonder if possibly the quality may not have been consistent since there have been so many bad reviews, but I have had mine for over five years now and I have not had any problems with it. It gives fast and accurate readings to this day and I use it regularly. The only minor things that I don't like about it are the clip (it is awkward to try to use it and it doesn't clip well to all types of pans) and the on off switch. The switch is just a bit stiff tiny. Overall, I would buy one again.

Thermometer displays temp after 8 - 10 seconds, as advertised.

It reads temps in Celsius or Fahrenheit, with the scale chosen by sliding a small switch. After less than ten uses the slide switch would give only the Celsius reading.

I have received a replacement (hassle-free) and hope the holds up better.

I don't know how it happened but somehow the wires that connect the probe to the read out came loose. I used it for awhile and it was sufficient. This time around I'm paying the extra $5 for the Weber. . .
