5.0 out of 5 stars Works great on retaining wall block, September 6, 2001

This is a great saw for the serious do-it-yourselfer. I like its portability and fast cutting time. I dislike the amount of dust it puts out compared to a wet saw. At 65 pounds you can throw it in the trunk and take it anywhere. We have been using it on cast concrete retaining wall block. The original idea was to use it on the decorative caps, which had a 3" by 12" cross-section. However, it will get about 90% of the way through a block with a 6" by 12" cross-section if you want to split the big block. Cutting time through the 6" by 12" block was around a minute, answering my concern about the motor, which looked small. The surface finish is very smooth, to get rough faced cuts you will still need to split using a hammer and chisel or block splitter. Don't try to rig your own water system to the saw, the motor has an external filter and does not appear to be sealed. Dust may be a long term issue. You certainly want face protection, a dust mask, and hearing protection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic saw!, August 1, 2009
This review is from: MK Diamond 157721A BX-3 Brick Xtreme 13 Amp 14-Inch 1-3/4-Horsepower Masonry Saw (Tools & Home Improvement)
We rented this saw for 3 weekends as we put in a decorative wall around the edge of our patio. It worked so well for cutting the tumbled stone that by the 3rd rental - when it rained most of the weekend, we were on the computer looking to see if we could just buy one. Too bad we hadn't done that after the 1st week, rather than paying all the rental fees. Needless to say we are extremely happy with the purchase & have decided to continue with a larger stone project next spring-a matching wall around the lower patio complete with an outdoor fireplace! Without this saw, he'd have never agreed to this. The only helpful thing you should know if ordering this saw from Amazon is it requires a signature on delivery. If we'd have known that we'd have saved ourselves & UPS a little trouble since we wanted it picked up & ready for use before the 3-day holiday weekend.

I bought this saw 3 years ago. I have used it non-stop for the last 3 years cutting retaining wall stones, cap stones and to cut-in the soldier course for my paver driveway (all 300 feet of it). My neighbor is now putting in their own paver driveway and I am proud to be lending them this awesome saw. Consider this purchase money well spent.
