5.0 out of 5 stars Great Baseball on the Go!
What's great about this game? I can actually play it on the go. A lot of psp games, really aren't pick up and play games. The Show is, which is awesome. It only takes a few minutes to get into a game, and if I don't finish, no worries. The power save feature is fantastic. I don't have to turn on the game, and remember what I was doing. This game offers plenty of modes,...

This game can be very annoying.example : pitching is unpredictable never know where the ball will end up and the pitch meter is a impossible to understand.(I switched pitch mode to non-meter and it still sucks) First batter of my season I tossed 22 pitches out, foul balls. And you can be off by half a foot on a grounder in the outfield and it rolls to the wall. Power swing...

This game offers plenty of modes, although I'm disappointed there isn't a franchise mode.

The game looks great for the PSP, PS2 quality imo. It runs smooth most of the time. I've been playing this game for months, and it still has me coming back for more. It doesn't seem to get stale. The worst part for me is during RTHS it's hard to see the ball at first if you play the infield. So reaction can be a little bit slow. Overall this game provides me with endless hours of fun on the go, anytime, anywhere. Great game for baseball fans on the go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent portable MLB game., March 16, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MLB 08 The Show (Video Game)
This is my first baseball game I purchased since MVP Baseball 2004 for my GameCube four long years ago. I'm glad I bought this one. The graphics for the game are well done. And while it's clear the engine does need to be upgraded graphichally I can still compare the player potraits to the 3D models.

The batting and pitching remind very much of MVP. While it does take a few games to adjust to the batting controls, you can get plenty of hits and drive in quite few runs once you get the timing down correctly.

The mode selection is deep and varied. The announcers are very good. But the soundtrack is definitely the weakest part of the game. Thankfully you an import your own songs to the in-game playlist, though you won't hear them during the games.

Excellent baseball game overall. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best baseball video game series., March 21, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MLB 08 The Show (Video Game)
I have played the series since 2006, and it seems that every one improves greatly. For example, this game has in depth pitch analysis, and instead of just hurling any pitch to the batter, you have to pick a pitch, then locate it, but it's not always a automatic strike. Also, There is this fun option in Season mode where you can ignore the budgets and restraints on teams, and just get a all star team for fun, That's what I have done, and it is sure fun to steal from the other teams. It's fun for a while, but eventually it gets boring having the all star team. Also, finally accurate positions for the players. The 2006 had everything old, and it was a decent game, but it sucked. Also, the cover star Ryan Howard is one of the most perfect ball players, and is hard as hell to strike out. But, some of the players abilities are exaggerated, for instance, Virgilio Ordenez isn't that good as the game makes him out to be. Plus, The other options are lacking. Overall, it is a fun game that I will keep buying every time there is a new version out.

The game itself is great. I just have one small problem that creates a big problem during the gameplay. When you perform a double switch it freezes the game. Now, let me go into farther depth on that. It will not freeze when you pinch hit for the pitcher and then bring in another pitcher for that pitchers spot. It will however freeze when you pinch hit for the pitcher and then leave the pinch hitter in the game at a different position and sub a new pitcher in for the spot the pich hitter was taking (hope this doesn't confuse anybody). That has happened to me twice in the late innings, The first time was fine, but I was hoping that the next time I did it that it was a one time thing, but it wan not. I make sure that I dont leave the pich hitter in anymore. Overall though, it is a really good game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Similar to years past, and that's a good thing!!!!, March 4, 2008

I've been playing this game for a few hours now and I have to say, it is very, very good. I have played 'The Show' for the last two years on PsP and this could be the best of all three
I know last year, the frame rate dropped a bit on '07 from the 2006 game. This has been fixed this year. The graphics are very similar to what they have been the last few years. But hey, they are good in my book! No need to improve when the gameplay shines like it does!!

They now have an updated 'Road to the show 2.0'. This is one feature I have not played around w/ yet, but I know GameSpot.com has a extensive review on this feature.

If you looking for a baseball game, this is the one! I have heard terrible things about MLB 2k series again this year. I would buy this game on the Ps3 in a second as well if I had one. I have a 360 and it looks as if I'm stuck w/ PsP baseball again this year.

4.0 out of 5 stars BEST BASEBALL GAME YET, June 22, 2008
A Kid's Review
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MLB 08 The Show (Video Game)
MLB 08 for the PSP is a very fun and exciting game. One thing that is great about this game is that when you play homerun derby it is alot easier to hit homeruns then it is in the other baseball games. For example in MLB 06 the game you have to time it perfectly hit a homerun and it can get really annoying. But in this game, all you have to do is wait till the ball comes to you and then hit it and usually it will be a homerun. Also the gameplay in this game is great because the contorls are easy and it makes the game very fun. The graphics on the other are the greatest I have ever seen because the people stil look like dots and the character models coul be better. But overall I think this game is great and fans that like baseball games should defenately get this game so I am giving it a 4/5

3.0 out of 5 stars just another sub par baseball game, April 22, 2011

This game can be very annoying.example : pitching is unpredictable never know where the ball will end up and the pitch meter is a impossible to understand.(I switched pitch mode to non-meter and it still sucks) First batter of my season I tossed 22 pitches out, foul balls. And you can be off by half a foot on a grounder in the outfield and it rolls to the wall. Power swing is useless because I hit all my hr on contact swing. Homerun derby is not consistent with the regular game play since the ball comes in so slow you pull every thing foul. Can't understand how to run bases effectively either. This game has nice features and can be fun if you can stand the bs annoyances.this game loads so slow. Not all to bad for A portable B ball game. Maybe one day these bums can make a solid
version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Baseball Simulation With Some Irritating Control Issues, November 24, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MLB 08 The Show (Video Game)
MLB 08 the show is really a remarkable game. It has the quality and presentation of a high end PS2 game while being portable. For anyone who has played almost any DS sports game, you know just how dreadful portable sports gaming can be.

It has a solid season mode which goes up to 162 games and allows full control, right down to mound visits and bullpen warmups. In addition to the solid baseball, there is the Road to the Show mode in which you create your player and guide them through the important parts of their career (essentially ABs and defensive plays they are involved with.

It is in the Road to the Show mode that some of the control quirks become more irritating. While baserunning in fairly intuitive in a regular game, when you control your man in the career mode, it is a chore. He'll stop and stutter for seemingly no reason, this leads to more than your fair share of pickoffs and baserunning mistakes. They will also occasionally run right through the base and continue to go, even if there is no reason to.

Further complicating matters is the fielding controls which switch viewpoints and then the buttons required to throw to a certain base. This is managable after a few games, but for that first bit, it is incredibly irritating to try and turn a double play and throw home instead.

Despite these flaws, it delievers a solid package of baseball which won't disappoint you.
