5.0 out of 5 stars The PS2 is Staying In the Living Room a Bit Longer

I was well on my way to banishing the PS2 to the basement. This game saved its life. I had been addicted to MLB 09: The Show but grew tired of waiting for the game to load. This version makes many improvements on the game load times though. The game loads much faster in many ways. You no longer have to sit and watch a frozen screen before the system figures out where to go next. The animations are more fluid and realistic. Of course the PS3 version has better graphics, but the one thing I admire about the PS2 version is being able to use my EyeToy to scan pictures into the game. The PS3 can't do that!

If you have a PS2 still laying around, scoop up a copy of this game. At (...) it'll bring all the punch and action you'd find in the PS3 version, if not more.

3.0 out of 5 stars More Realistic..., May 17, 2010

For 3 years, I had completed 6.5 seasons using MLB07. I didn't want to get the new version because I built such a foundation with the 2007 version but after 6 seasons, the rosters were WAY out of whack and too many computer created players on MLB rosters with the same faces!

This new version has its ups and downs. First, the graphics are poorer than MLB07. For example, Mark Teixeira is as white as a ghost. The fieling is a bit better. One plus side is the reality of the game. On MLB07, I was playing using "Hall of Fame" difficulty. In this version, I'm using "Veteran" and am facing a bigger challenge than 07's top level offered. I actually have tough down-to-the-wire games, even with the best of rosters. From that standpoint, it is more realistic with player stats and standings. In MLB07, all of my players batted .300+ and 7 of my 9 batters had over 100 RBIs. In this game, the numbers are more realistic as players hit hold/cold streaks like real life. Pitching is more realistic as well. Just as in real life pitchers have excellent, good and poor days.

One downside is the batting mode. I've adjusted the hell out of the batting sliders. In 07, I didn't have to adjust anything. In this version, for a player who in real life is MVP quality you have to increase the sliders when batting in order to get some real contact hits. Plus, if you call the right pitch and location, let's say it's going to be a fastball Low-Inside corner, the PCI will be stuck on middle-inside. Where to go from there is still tough to figure out. Whether or not to use the L stick a lot or just a little is a mystery still. It seems that if the PCI is an inch or two above the ball dot, just slightly move the L stick down, but the PCI doesn't move. Need to guess what part of the plate your batter is covering. After 3 months of a season, I'm just starting to get the hang of it.

So, if you want a more realistic game that will provide a bigger challenge, this is it.

4.0 out of 5 stars MLB 10 The Show - Realistic, May 9, 2010
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: MLB 10 The Show (Video Game)
The Pros:

Realistic, great graphics,

The Cons:

Difficult fielding, no way to make the fielder run faster after a ball, leading to a lot of missplayed balls.
Pitching Box does not display accurately the Strike zone. You put the ball in the strike zone box and more times then not it's called a ball, very frustrating.
Hitting is Ok but if you don't crank the sliders all the way up you might never get a hit, frustrating.
Does not display info or name of the hitter when he's up. Scorecard info and season info.
When pressing the L2 button to get info it stays onscreen for about 1/2 second. Why have this option if the user can't review it?

I'm a user who just wants to play the game in season mode, period & don't need all the other options included. Probably less is more in this case.

Long story short, this is the best of ML baseball games still available for the PS2. Unfortunately - and inexplicably - the ability to connect to the Internet was TAKEN AWAY from last years PS2 version!? I can only speculate that this is an attempt to force users to purchase the PS3 which has the Internet update feature.
In summary - game play is great (both single player and two player modes), but no update ability really stinks!

I just got this game the other day and I love it. The graphics are great for the Playstation 2 and the game is really fun. It's a little hard but still really fun I love how all the players look exactly like the real people even there batting stances or the way the pitch.

This is a great game for video game fans or baseball fans.
This is a must by for either!

So I bought the MLB 10 "The Show" for my Hubbs who is a consumate Baseball fan/player. He went from mild mannered, soft spoken man, to an intense, yelling, screaming, laughing fool!! He can't put the game down. He kept saying that Baseball is the one sport that takes more technique and talent...and he felt immediately challenged with "The Show". It took him over a week of daily playing to win his first game. The graphics are amazing, the stadiums are exactly like the real thing.... the pitching, hitting, fielding all requires a different skill set. Thank you for making my Hubbs the happiest man on the planet - the downside, is unless my name is Jeter or A-Rod, I hear "hold on Honey, 'til I finish this game"...- Hooked in Salinas, CA

I bought this game for my son's 12th birthday, even though he hadn't asked for it specifically. I looked at the reviews of MLB 2K10, which I originally thought I'd buy, since we have an earlier version, but the reviews were not great. So, after reading the comments on this game, I took a chance on it.

When he first popped in the game, he was frustrated because he couldn't manage the batting very well, and he quickly went back to his old familiar MLB 2K version. But I've learned to wait him out, and sure enough, after a few days he took another stab at it and began to master the controls. Now, I can't get him to stop playing!

He is totally focused on making it to the majors, yet he likes playing on minor league teams, especially because he's been to many of the parks and seen the real teams playing. He's also learning a very valuable lesson -- he has to actually play the games to get ahead! For a while, he was simulating the games, but without any control over his player, he wasn't doing as well as he did when he actually played the games. Great lesson! There should be some advantage to actual playing time... it's hard enough for me to accept that he feels proud of himself as a "virtual" player. It would be worse if he were proud of a virtual self that did nothing to get where he is!

This game is just ok The base running is pathetic. If you set it for the computer to control and you have a man on second with no outs and there is a ground ball he will stand in his stance and either be out at second or be tagged out. If the catcher appeals to the third or first base umpire while you are batting on a check swing ruled a ball the umps always say you went around (they did this to me a couple of times when I just sit the controller down because I knew I was taking so go figure) Maybe MLB will eventually start letting 3rd party developers back in the business so EASPORTS can revive the far superior MVP/TRIPLE PLAY SERIES.

Even, only on the veteran level,(second easiest one),It is Impossible to score runs almost, and they crush my pitcher no matter how good he is on franchise mode.In previous games you could pick your coaching staff and Manager.I can't seem to here!I lost last night 26-3 against Toronto and lost 17-2 the game before that to the Rays.3 is my high run total for the season!I skip spring training mode,But now maybe I should consider playing through to get these guys in shape, maybe thats why they suck!?LOL!Home run derby mode is the best,Maybe ever!(and yes, your teammates still laugh at you if you swing and miss!),(silently-of course)It is the most realistic baseball game I have ever owned so far.The various opening's they have weather its 2009 feats, or Joe Maur's season or milestones or The Yankees winning world series #27,Is really cool and keeps things more interesting!Good3-man commentary as well! This will take time to get good at,But I AM glad for one last Baseball game for the PS2,and it's a keeper!!!

I now have played this game enough to write a review. The game is fun too play and is better then 09 that it is slightly easier to hit home runs if you can get the solid hit slider just right and the timing just right. I only give it 4 stars because I still like 08 the best even if it had glitches, in Both 09 and 10 they have the fielding sliders, base running sliders for base stealing and so on in the global sliders. Where in 08 you could doing that along with the batting sliders for the Human player and not let have the computer have the same running speeding and fielding and so on. I do like challenges in a game, but not too hard and it be nice if MLB the show took out the other hitting sliders and change it back to 08 where it was a lot easier to hit Home runs and not wimpy ones. I still recommend 10 but will need to practice a lot and experiment with the hitting sliders if you want to hit home runs to center field other wise will need to pull the ball all the time to Hit them.
