i had my doubts for a long time that a version of mlb 11 would even be made for ps2. when i finally saw it would be released for ps2, i scoured youtube and the net almost weekly looking for information on it. everything that came out was always a review for the ps3 version. i wondered if some of the new features of the ps3 version where going to be part of ps2 or not. i couldn't tell because it just didn't seem to say anywhere. that didn't stop me from pre-ordering my copy on amazon. i have played mlb 10 to death. ive played seasons as several different teams, continued on with some up til 2020. this game is so fun and its cool how many different ways you can play it. well, as it turns out, many of the changes they spoke of were only applicable to the ps3 version. their are no analog controls, which is ok with me..maybe i would like them but i never minded the classic controls. one thing i was really hoping would change is the RTTS features. this is such a cool mode to play in, only ruined by ridicoulus career assesments that have you sent back down to double AA after batting .429 in 139 at bats in the majors. ps3 version now assesses you more accurately to avoid some these problems. i could be wrong as ive only been playing this for a couple of weeks now, but it seems like the RTTS is pretty much the same as in mlb10. i have to experiment with it more i'll admit. Basically, what you get here is the updated rosters and a few new angles and graphics. That really is enough for me to buy it. I'm glad they put it out. It gives a guy like me who loves this game and wants to be able to update the rosters a chance to play it because i'm not going to spend $300 for a ps3....i'll wait until they are cheaper.

My 7-year old son loves this game but we're in no position to spend $300 on a PS3, so we've been getting the version for PS2 for a few years now. And for about $30, there's usually very little to complain about. Unfortunately, that's not the case with this year's model.

If you've been reading anything about the version for PS3, the critics love it. They loaded it up with a slew of new features - rain, clouds, new scoreboards, new controls, a new announcer, etc. None of those features made their way to PS2.

But my main gripe is not only did they not add anything - they actually took some features away, including one of my son's favorites. We've only played once so far, but already I noticed they eliminated the meter that tells you if a reliever is warmed up or not. I have no idea why it's not there anymore, as it's been in all the previous versions I can remember. And sadly, they eliminated the old time teams along with the old time stadiums. This is a real shame, because my son loved learning about the players from different eras as well as being able to play in places like the Polo Grounds or Forbes Field.

Don't get me wrong, The Show is still the best baseball video game out there but this is the first year I noticed they're skimping on the features for PS2 and that's a real shame.

I'm 70, but I like to play Madden football and MLBx, to keep my hand-eye coordination intact. I also like Gran Turisimo, and a few others.

I've played this game so often, that I've had dreams about it, and had to break for awhile. I've managed to excel at pitching, fielding and hitting, to the point of being bored, and deleting the player to start over in AA.

Here's my wish-list for this game:
1. Don't make every player look like a clone of the same guy.
2. Assign a realistic amount of points to record achievements. - for instance, a hit streak above 56 games should keep adding up points, and likewise for HR's beyond the record.
3. Program a list of player names, so I can be somebody besides "Number Twenty Two".
4. Include Long & Short Relief Pitchers. - just being a starter or closer is boring!
5. Allow pitchers to improve their pickoff moves, so they can actually pick somebody off.
6. Fix the get-up-and-continue-running glitch, after a runner slides into a base.
7. Make a 98 MPH 4-seamer actually fool a hitter, when it's mixed in with off speed stuff. - bad enough they actually PULL it!
8. Standardize the buttons for throws to bases. Depending on whether you're a pitcher or a fielder, there are different buttons for the bases -- DUMB AND CONFUSING!!
9. Make a good slider more realistically effective.
10. Give me points for Cy Young, MVP, RBI Leader, Batting Champ, and especially the Triple Crown!
11. Better points system. - after 9,999, and maxed-out on everything, it's just plain boring.

Oh, and dump the Dave Campbell & Rex Hudler characters! Their stupid random comments are an insult to the game. - "Man, he'd need a sand wedge to hit that!"

Sand wedge this, Dave!

I recently purchased this game, and it is the first baseball game that has ever been as addicting as Madden games. I have trouble putting it down.

PROS:

-Captures the feeling of baseball. Good graphics/sound are next best thing to actually going to a game.

-Stadiums are awesome looking. Even grass-cut pattern is an option.

CONS:

-Controls are poorly documented. Even after reviewing manual and in-game tips there are still many guages, acronyms, controls that I have no idea how to read. Even basic things like pitching and batting have a bit of trial-and-error as you try to figure out how the game "expects" you to hold the L-stick (PS2) and when to (or not) release it. I've played the game for about 10-15 hours now and still feel like I need more info. I don't know when to hold/release/push things for basic operations.

-The 2nd announcer is as annoying as having a wasp nest in your ear. This seems all to common in sports games sadly. One announcer gives a good comment that actually helps you fix your strategy... then the next chimes in with a random comment that makes you want to climb up to the press box and beat him to death while screaming "should I have laid off this pitch?!!!!"

-Despite many controls over the lineup, there are no controls over basic things like infielder/outfielder position... or maybe there is... since like I mentioned before, the manual and in-game tips are lame. Other options like pinch-hitting require you to guess as they are not documented. I thought EA manuals sucked until this game.

-The soundtrack is terrible. After playing games like Madden '11 and NHL '09 by EA this game seems sad. It will make you click thru the options as fast as possible... which is bad since there are more clicks-to-game than any EA Sports game I've ever played.
