4.0 out of 5 stars Good for a 1st gen handheld title March 18, 2012
Platform for Display:PlayStation Vita
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
I like this game because I like baseball and because I liked the 2009 version on the PSP. This version offers a pretty good simulation of a what a real-life MLB game is like. That being said, this game can be extremely frustrating if you've never played a previous version of it or if you don't really like baseball and don't understand or appreciate the nuances of the game.

The difficulty of this game can be fined tuned to your liking by adjusting the various sliders and trying the different difficulty levels. You can make it where it's hard to get 8 hits in an entire game, or you can make it home run derby every game if that's what you like. This is the best advice I can give anyone new to the series: If you've never played MLB The Show before, then you're not going to do yourself any favors by starting on any level other than beginner. You absolutely have to learn how to tell a strike from a ball and how to only swing at strikes in this game. Otherwise, you're going to hate it. Learn how to read pitches at the beginner level, and then start moving up to the higher difficulty levels and trying the different swing methods until you find what's the most fun for you. It's at this point that you get your money's worth out of the game.

The major game play gripes that I have are with the inconsistent accuracy when you're pitching on even the beginner level and the CPU ability on offense to refrain from swinging at any pitch even slightly off the plate on the higher difficulty levels. Even on beginner level, don't be surprised when your ace pitcher can't put the ball where you aim it. Good real-life pitchers miss of course, but I think they overdid it for this game. Adjusting the sliders helps, but it doesn't completely eliminate the problem. If I want complete control over pitching accuracy, then I should be able to have it since just about everything else can be customized. It's most annoying when trying to pitch to star hitters on the CPU teams. These hitters won't swing at anything off the plate like their real-life counterparts do at least sometimes, and they will consistently destroy the balls that your pitchers leave in the middle of the plate at the absolute worst times.

The game looks great for the most part. The stadiums are outstanding. I don't have anything worth complaining about as far as how the game looks, especially since it's the first baseball game on a new handheld platform. The next version always looks better and this one looks good enough.

Overall, this game is insanely deep and can be played for a very long time without getting old. The replay value can't be overstated because you're always improving and getting better the more you play it. The Road to the Show mode is addicting, and is the part of the game that will keep me playing it for years. I love to hit. When I played baseball, defense was something that I tolerated just so I could be able to hit. What makes this game gold to me is that I can set up the Road to the Show mode so that all I do is hit. I can turn on the system wherever I am when I have some time to kill, quickly have a couple of at bats, and get my fix. That's what I expect out of a handheld baseball game.

this review is just for the vita and not the ps3

I went to gamestop to pick up my copy of ps3 the show for the vita, and i am really happy with it. It is everything you expect from the show plus more. they have everything from making the game so easy to making it so hard. everyone who is a fan of baseball should pick this game up. the only complaint i have is my online pass didnt work, but that does not reflect my game review because it isnt part of the game. the gameplay is so smooth and you feel a sence of accomplishment when you blast a home-run. they brought back where you can choose exactly where you swing and that is what i am talking about. This game feels just as smooth as when i played mlb 08 and mlb 11 on the ps3. playing on the vita doesnt take nothing away from the experience.

My online pass worked later that night when i got the game. i guesss they were having problems.

I played a couple games online and the experience was fun, but also frustrating. It seems like a lot of people either disconnect or quit once you get the lead. I have played 3 full games and my record is 5-4. people are getting losses when they havnt even played. The timing for hitting is rediculous online. It seems like your always either late or early. If you hit a hard ground ball to right field it is so easy to get thrown out at first. sometimes the catcher will get stuck on a 3rd strike pass ball or a steel and who ever is running can run the bases and get a free run. If you really care about your record or play seriously then i suggest you wait for a patch to jump online. If you play for fun like me and could care less about your record, you can still have fun playing online right now.

i chaned it to 4 stars overall because of all the problems online. if you buying this to play mainly online i suggest you wait to pick it up.

online 3 stars
offline 5 stars. If you buying this game to play mainly offline i suggest you pick it up right now

5.0 out of 5 stars Vita the show better than most console sports games March 6, 2012
Platform for Display:PlayStation Vita
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I decided to pick this game up on my vita this year because i always buy the show on my ps3 but buying the vita i could save 20 bucks. This game is still amazing. You truly feel like you are playing the ps3 version of the show. I have not played online so i cant comment on that. The road to the show is pretty much what i play on the show and is still as addicting as ever. Really not much to say about this game if youve played the ps3 version you you can pick this game up and have no problems. The touch screen works so well and is a great shortcut to navagate the menus. The graphics are wonderful in this game. Blows my mind that a handheld game can look so good. Again there is not much you can say about this game. Most of you know what you are getting with this game and its still the amazing game we all fell in love with even on a little screen.

Amazon should list Online Pass Codes in description
Completely agree with this. The general public needs to know if theyll be expected to shell out more money after they bought the game used. I'm sick and tired of having to google whether or not a certain game has an online pass or not.

no animations?
They did that to make the game run quicker. They wanted to make the games go faster since most people would be playing the Vita version on the go. I read an interview from the creators

Should I.....
I would say far more than any other game, MLB 12 the Show is the game to get. That is the only game I'm playing on the Vita now, and as the series has always been, I think its great.
For the other two, I'm not sure about Rayman or Unit 13, but Rayman is getting much better reviews.
Have you... Read more
