4.0 out of 5 stars Could be worse
For many baseball video game fans, MVP '06 was and will be the gold standard...yet we're left with the Show & 2k. After switching back and forth each year from one to the other, I decided to try 2k10 for the Wii. I had last year's 2k10, and lost interest after a month or so.

1.0 out of 5 stars RIPOFF ALERT: 2K Sports is once again selling MLB2K8 in a new package, April 8, 2010
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MLB 2K10 (Video Game)
I own MLB2K8 on the wii and can honestly say it has been one of my favorites on the system. The batting and pitching mechanics are more effective and accurate (not to mention fun!) than any other baseball platform I have played, and the franchise and season modes are addictive and have kept me entertained for more time than I would like to admit despite lackluster graphics, so-so announcers, and occasional glitches.

Because I had finally found a baseball game that I enjoyed thoroughly, I was beyond excited for the MLB 2K9. This is the year that just about every other team sports game on the Wii was coming out with online mode, so it seemed obvious to me that MLB would be no exception. I was also looking forward to an upgrade in the graphic design and a lot of fixed bugs along with new, accurate rosters for my White Sox. What I got was a confusing mix of Sox staples and minor league players who were taking the empty spots after trades. I thought "ok, I will just update the rosters online since that is certainly a feature now." I was wrong. No roster updates, no online play, no graphic upgrades, nada. Just an outdated roster update, new announcers, and cosmetic menu changes to make it look like the game had actually been changed. I took this back to the video store 10 minutes later and traded it for Call of Duty, explaining to the clerk that I already had this game from '08 so it wasn't worth even $4 to me.

2010 was the year, I thought. Reviews for MLB 2K9 were abysmal as people who actually bought the game before renting were even more disappointed than me. Certainly 2K would take note and give us something new.

Well, before renting the game I saw that the "Wii Online" logo was absent so I already knew I was not going to get my #1 wish, an MLB game I can play online like all other game systems have been doing for YEARS.

THERE ARE STILL NO ROSTER UPDATES!

The graphics have actually somehow managed to become WORSE than 2K8, with the ridiculous ghost effect behind players. Once again, a stupid cosmetic change to convince consumers they have made a new game. The characters still look nothing like the real-life players, the glitches are actually more noticeable, and the announcers are just unbearably bland and annoying. I would rather have Gilbert Gottfreid announce a game, honestly.

Wii still has so much potential, and with Wii MotionPlus I am finally seeing why I am so loyal to the system, yet there is still a large gap between what consumers want (and COULD have) and what they get when it comes to sports games. In 2K11, these guys need give us what we DESERVE as fans of baseball, Wii, and even 2K.

I still have another night with MLB2K10 before I take it back to the video store and never, ever play it again. I have not even finished the first game I started because after watching my team play, it is frustrating to play a game that can't get half of the active players correct because they are unwilling to adapt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could be worse, March 3, 2010

For many baseball video game fans, MVP '06 was and will be the gold standard...yet we're left with the Show & 2k. After switching back and forth each year from one to the other, I decided to try 2k10 for the Wii. I had last year's 2k10, and lost interest after a month or so.

So far, this game has been about as fun as I could have expected. I was scared at first that there wasn't a franchise, but it just took a few clicks to find it.

The gameplay is actually much quicker than the version on other systems. It's possible to play a game in 30 minutes again, instead of the 1hr marathons I've been experiencing every years since MVP became obsolete.

The Wii controls take a little getting used to, but really aren't that difficult once you get used to it. I'm flicking my wrists to swing without even knowing it, and I'm sure it burns a few more calories.

All in all, if you own a Wii, this is better than most licensed sports games released, and probably as much fun or slightly more fun than last years 2k9 game on the PS console.

3.0 out of 5 stars Swing And A Miss, March 9, 2010

This game could be great. It isn't, but it could be.

Pros:
Controls take some learning, but become second-nature rather quickly.

Cons:
Poor PS1-quality graphics; fielding the ball and base running are way too difficult; too many glitches (outs not recorded, fragmented graphics, announcers make random calls not pertaining to game action, to name a few); no online play, no online roster updates (something other games have had for years); I still can't quite figure out why a check-swing requires players to press a+b, as if checking your swing is a strategic move, instead of actually checking your swing with the Wii remote (perhaps Wii MotionPlus would help on 2K11).

Even with all those cons, it IS quite fun to play. I know that the Wii isn't as powerful as the PS3 and XBox360, but it's gotta be more capable than this game may lead one to believe. A few tweaks, some online options, and a graphics upgrade, and 2K11 could be a great baseball game.

When I first got this game I was horrible at it. In season mode I was last in the division by 20 games! I was about to quit playing it and then it got really fun! I was 1st place in the division by 10 games! It has a lot of modes including exhibition, franchise, season, tournament, and home run derby. I would definitely recommend it. There is not a thing wrong with it. It is the best wii game I own! I own more baseball games, racing games, instrument games, singing games, sports games, and fighting games. Thats really good. That is all I have to say.

I am 9 years old and this game is very cool! I love how it resembles real game situations. I enjoy playing with the Wii remote because it acts like the ball when pitching and the bat when hitting. It is very fun and completely worth the price!!

This game is actually pretty good when you consider that it is on the Wii. If you play at a high enough level, it is challenging and the fact that you have to move a little to play can't hurt either. Granted, it is missing online roster updates, online play and some updated stadium info (you see the outside of Old Yankee Stadium when playing the Yankees in NY), but if you take it for what it is, a baseball game on the Wii it can and is quite fun.

First off I will say that the game is a lot of fun when you start. The pitching motion for the wii is a lot of fun. The batting is ok once you get the hang of it. Unfortunately the glitches and other things really get in the way of the game. As far back as I have been playing 2k baseball games (2k5 is when I started), the players make ridiculous errors that even a person who has never played baseball wouldn't make. (You would think that after 5 versions they would have corrected this)

Injuries happen either all at once or go a long stretch without having any. If you want to disable injuries partway through the season, you can't. Another annoying thing about the game is that you can only play 2 player exhibition games, and you can't choose your starting pitchers or alter your starting lineup. In season mode they give you way too many notifications (i.e. 100 RBIs reached). The most annoying part of season mode is that the computer screwed up the roster so it wouldn't let me change around the starting rotation.

Bottom line is this, if you really like baseball and baseball games check this game out. Otherwise, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy if you have MLB2K8 or MLB2k9, May 11, 2010

If you already own MLB2K8 or MLB2K9, DO NOT buy MLB2K10. The graphics are the same if not worse than the previous titles, and the rosters are not accurate at all. Player numbers, starting line ups, pitching rotations, they are all wrong. Why would you release a baseball game before the start of the MLB season and NOT have the option of updating rosters in the game itself. I own Fifa2010 and Fifa World Cup and both games have an online option, where you can update your offline rosters by downloading an online roster. I am not sure why 2KSports have not figured out this roster update deal, but until they do I will not play another MLB2K game again. Very disappointed that I spent $50 on this game, now I am looking to sell it. Also, they still show the outside of the old Yankee Stadium and then they have the new INSIDE of Yankee Stadium, what's up with that 2K!? Like I said before, if you already own a previous MLB2K version, don't buy the 2K10 version thinking you will be getting updated rosters, because YOU WON'T. Avoid this game at all cost.

1.0 out of 5 stars A very sloppy game, May 22, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: MLB 2K10 (Video Game)
I'm a huge baseball fan but only a moderate gamer, so when I bought this game for the Wii, I did so after ignoring some of the criticism about its graphics being sub-par because that's not the most important aspect of a game to me. I figured as long as it was fun I'd be happy. Well, the issues with this game go far beyond its graphics.

I know the Wii version is different in several ways from the other platform versions of this game, so I don't know if all of these issues are applicable across the board, but I'll mention some of the glaring issues I've found in the one week that I've played the game on Wii.

First, if you want to play this game with two people, your only option is to play an exhibition game. This means that, unlike with baseball video games I've played in the past (as far back as seven years ago), if you play in season or franchise mode and you want a friend to step in and take over as your opponent in a game from time to time, you can't. It also means that, unlike with past baseball games I've played, you cannot allow two people to control two different teams within season mode, which is disappointing because I bought the game hoping to do so.

Secondly, exhibition mode, being the only way you can play a two-player game, is really awful. There's no option to alter your lineups or choose your starting pitcher when playing an exhibition game. You're stuck with the built-in team lineups, and the starting pitcher is always the pitcher who is set as the ace in the game's system (e.g.: if you play as the Yankees in an exhibition game, C.C. Sabathia is always the starter, and if you're the Cubs, Carlos Zambrano is always the starter). This is completely baffling to me, as even baseball games on the original NES allow you to adjust your lineup and choose a starting pitcher when playing an exhibition game.

Third, every time you start the game, if you have more than one user profile (e.g.: you're playing an exhibition game against a friend and both of you have a profile saved), you have to go out of the way to a profile menu buried within several other menus and load the second profile before it will appear as an option in the exhibition game. This is really counter-intuitive, and this is just one of a multitude of issues relating to counter-intuitive navigation within this game.

I could go on with amazingly obvious problems that 2K Sports should have caught with this game, but these are the three issues that irk me the most.

As someone who works for a company that develops computer programs, I understand the sort of work that goes into quality assurance for a product such as this, and this game really seems as though there was very little--or very rushed--testing. There certainly wasn't much thought put into the game design. I'd rather play an old NES game.
