MLCS forstner bits are manufactured from high quality steel that is long lasting, precision ground for heavy use and easily resharpened. Forstner bits are designed to drill flat bottom or through holes cleanly in end grain, thin stock, veneers and regular stock. They enlarge existing holes with ease and can bore any arc of a circle. These bits will not move off center through unusual grain or knots. Great for mounting mini-quartz clock movements, cup hinges and door locks. Sizes 1/4-Inch to 7/8-Inch bits are supplied with solid rims. The saw teeth design for larger diameter bits (1-Inch and larger) stop burning and cut faster without losing the advantages of Forstner bit action. Shank size is 3/8-Inch and overall length is 3-1/2-Inch for sizes 1/4-Inch through 2-1/8-Inch excluding metric sizes. For sizes 2-1/4-Inch through 4-1/2-Inch shank size is 1/2-Inch and overall length is 6-3/8-Inch. Use large bits in drill press

Can't say much about the longevity but it worked the first, second, third, and several more times that I used it.

People who have problems with forstner bits are probably drilling at too fast of a speed, try 500rpm or lower if you can. Use slow but steady pressure and this bit works like any other forstner bit, except that its not self feeding which was much better for my purpose, using the bit to make a hole for my lathe chuck to expand into in a bowl blank.

This is an example of why cheap Chinese tools are often a waste of money. This thing was haphazardly hand-sharpened with a grinder; no precision was even attempted. Some cutting edges are sharp, some are burred, some are dull. Yes, it's cheap, but what good is cheap if it's not worth it? I recommend doing what I'll do now, spend more for a real tool. (Probably still Chinese, but hopefully with better QC)
