The MMF Industries Book Safe looks like a hard cover book but it's not! The Book Safe makes a great hiding place for your small valuables and private documents. This compact home safe looks like a finely-bound World Atlas and is easy to conceal among other books. Place it in a bookcase or on a desk and the safe can’t be distinguished from a real book. Cover has the look and feel of a real book. The inside compartment is constructed of durable heavy-gauge steel with scratch & chip-resistant white finish and a felt lining that protects fragile items. An ideal day-to-day hiding spot for petty cash, jewelry, passports, coins, titles, rare stamps, stock certificates, small electronics, bonds, or any valuables or important documents needing concealment. Lid opens easily with full length piano hinge and secures with a sturdy combination lock that allows you to set your own code. Color: blue, measures 6.5 inches x 3 inches x 8.375 inches (W x D x H)

4.0 out of 5 stars Roomy Book Safe w/Lock, Provides Casual Security - Recommended, June 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MMF Industries Locking Book Safe (221203208) (Office Product)
The MMF Locking Book Safe is sturdy and well made, but it might not be a perfect solution for everyone. Here are my observations:

First the good points -
* This is a fairly large safe, big enough to secure a fair amount of documentation, jewelry, and other valuables.

* Lock code is easy set/change from the factory default.

* Case is made of metal.

Now the bad points -
* Anyone touching this will quickly realize that it isn't a book. It is very heavy, made of metal, and loose items will rattle.

* Lock will not likely provide much protection. As my daddy used to say, "Locks are made to keep honest folks honest", and that applies here. This safe could be opened in seconds with a small prybar or flathead screwdriver (but it would damage the safe as well).

* The generic "World Atlas" cover might stand out like a sore thumb on your bookshelf, this isn't a problem for us since we have a lot of books arranged by subject and it does blend in well in my reference section.

This book safe is fairly good camouflage, but will never withstand a committed searcher. The safe works well for my needs, but you might want to consider Southwest Speciality Products 60001S Book Safe (see my review there) if you need a safe that looks and feels more like a real book.

Recommended, with the caveats detailed above!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!, July 15, 2009
This review is from: MMF Industries Locking Book Safe (221203208) (Office Product)
This is a realistic looking "book" that we find perfect for safeguarding the little things we might otherwise hide from ourselves as we travel in our RV. The lock is easy to operate, smooth and secure. A great book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Safe against book thieves -- and readers!, July 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MMF Industries Locking Book Safe (221203208) (Office Product)
If I were a book thief, I wouldn't take this. Geez.

The only reason this works for me is because I have approximately 250 linear feet of books. To pick this book-like object out of the book cases would be a lot like pulling a needle out of a haystack. Possible but not very likely.

One problem: there is not much room in this to hide valuables and mine is called World Atlas. Really? That seems a little silly. It's about six inches tall. If I were looking at a shelf, looking for something, I would be a little suspicious of a book this size calling itself a World Atlas.
