4.0 out of 5 stars Roomy Book Safe w/Lock, Provides Casual Security - Recommended
The MMF Locking Book Safe is sturdy and well made, but it might not be a perfect solution for everyone. Here are my observations:

First the good points -
* This is a fairly large safe, big enough to secure a fair amount of documentation, jewelry, and other valuables.

* Lock code is easy set/change from the factory default.

3.0 out of 5 stars Safe against book thieves -- and readers!
If I were a book thief, I wouldn't take this. Geez.

The only reason this works for me is because I have approximately 250 linear feet of books. To pick this book-like object out of the book cases would be a lot like pulling a needle out of a haystack. Possible but not very likely.

One problem: there is not much room in this to hide valuables...

* Case is made of metal.

Now the bad points -
* Anyone touching this will quickly realize that it isn't a book. It is very heavy, made of metal, and loose items will rattle.

* Lock will not likely provide much protection. As my daddy used to say, "Locks are made to keep honest folks honest", and that applies here. This safe could be opened in seconds with a small prybar or flathead screwdriver (but it would damage the safe as well).

* The generic "World Atlas" cover might stand out like a sore thumb on your bookshelf, this isn't a problem for us since we have a lot of books arranged by subject and it does blend in well in my reference section.

This book safe is fairly good camouflage, but will never withstand a committed searcher. The safe works well for my needs, but you might want to consider Southwest Speciality Products 60001S Book Safe (see my review there) if you need a safe that looks and feels more like a real book.

Recommended, with the caveats detailed above!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!, July 15, 2009
This review is from: MMF Industries Locking Book Safe (221203208) (Office Product)
This is a realistic looking "book" that we find perfect for safeguarding the little things we might otherwise hide from ourselves as we travel in our RV. The lock is easy to operate, smooth and secure. A great book!

One problem: there is not much room in this to hide valuables and mine is called World Atlas. Really? That seems a little silly. It's about six inches tall. If I were looking at a shelf, looking for something, I would be a little suspicious of a book this size calling itself a World Atlas.

This safe works for my needs. Yes, a different title would be better, but with all the books on my bookshelves it's not all that easy to pick out. I think it would work well to hold all the remotes on the coffee table too. I am happy with my purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Satisfied with the price, November 26, 2011

Just received my safe and immediately noticed that part of the bottom "book" part was dented/ripped inward. On the bright side it does give the safe a more authentic look but I am slightly displeased that I purchased this product as "new" and it didn't come as so. The inside is spacious, which is what I needed and the lock is easy to use. My only concern that it might be too easy to use and not difficult for anyone to break in but I'm not storing gold so it works for me. Another concern is handling the safe, the front and back cover were not built to sustain the weight of an empty safe so be careful when handling it while it's full. If I read this review in the future and took into consideration the negative feedback, I believe I would still make this purchase because the price isn't bad and it offers ample space in a somewhat camouflaged safe. I would also recommend that the seller ensure that the product arrives in perfect condition.

I like this product as it is easy to set the lock, good quality, decent size. I bought this to store a few objects hidden away from people and it does just that. Overall good experience and i am satisfied with how fast my product arrived.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent way to hide, but wouldn't expect much., July 2, 2009

I bought this as a decent way to hide valuables, after a break in at my house this year, it's ok, but not something I'd expect much (to fool thieves with) and it takes a little doing to set the combination.

Here is an idea. I got this safe for my 6 year old son. He uses it to "lock-up" his drawing markers from his 18 month old little brother. The combination is better for him because a key can so easily get lost. Safeguard your markers from getting dried out (and you sofa redecorated) from your sneaky, climbing little brother.

3.0 out of 5 stars Book Safes, October 11, 2008
This review is from: MMF Industries Locking Book Safe (221203208) (Office Product)
Book safes are a good way to hide valuables and cash in inconspicuous places(as long as people don't know they are there). I own a similiar book safe, and what I've found is that the space inside rattles; let's say someones rummaging through your book collection it drops to the ground. How many books do you know that make a clank sound when dropped? This book is made of steel, if you're realistically concerned about someone searching hi n' low for something you definitely don't want a metal book safe. You should probably just save your money and open a safety deposit box.
