4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product But Must Follow Instructions
I really love this TouchMP although I must say I didn't always feel this way. First of all let me say that the instruction manual is on the software and the quick start instructions seemed to cause more problems than good. 4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product But Must Follow Instructions, June 6, 2011
This review is from: MMP9490 Flash Portable Media Player (Electronics)
I really love this TouchMP although I must say I didn't always feel this way. First of all let me say that the instruction manual is on the software and the quick start instructions seemed to cause more problems than good. I also believe that a lot of the reviews are from those like myself who just take for granted that we've had mp3 players before and we automatically know what to do with this right out the box. My first mistake was I didn't let it charge fully and was anxious and to load it without reading the instructions on the software. I successfully loaded music and the album art was there for a brief couple of minutes before disappearing. Anxiously again I loaded the audiobook after installing the audio software and after doing so it just went blank and I too assumed that it had crashed. I couldn't power it on or off and the navigation lights wouldn't go off and my computer wouldn't recognize it through the usb portal and stated "malfunction and no drivers detected", I was so stressed trying to get this thing going. After letting it sit out for about a day, I noticed the navigation blue lights had went out and although I was determined to send this what I had assumed defective product back, I gave it one more try. I plugged it in, pc recognized it and all my music was still there. After a full charge, I loaded about 15 albums and synced with no problem (and all album art was there). My audio book was even on there. I absolutely love this product, music is pristine clear , the radio is the same and the audiobook feature works great. Easy to navigate through and other than not being wifi accesible, it's the greatest value out there. I actually bought one for a friend also and she has no problems, she too thought hers had crashed but reset it and no problems. I do recommend this product, just read the instructions, let it fully charge initially and you should be fine.

This is an excellent choice for an Mp3/video player!! First, let me say that the review is written for the 4gb not the 8gb as shown. The seller didn't list it correctly!!

The sound quality is above average!! Warning I'm not an ear-bud person! I listen to my Mp3 player using a pair of Radioshack Pro 35A Headphones with titanium drivers!! The sound is perfect!!

Battery life is also perfect! With no problems at all! The one drawback for some will be that first charge is for 3 to 4 hours. After that first charge, charge times decreased to about 45min.

The expansion port for the micro sd card has some problems! Don't buy an 8gb micro sd card for this player. It will work for awhile then massive problems will happen including: Album art will suddenly and for no reason disapear! The player will become contaminated for no reason. And finally, music and or video's won't play!! After knowing this I bought an 4gb micro sd card and didn't have any problems!!

At this current time the player doesn't have any optional goodies!! There is no protective case!! No charger stand!! No sound port or docking station!!

The screen is nice and large!! The protective coating on it still doesn't have a scratch on it, even after shoving it into my pocket and carrying it around in there!!

The key lock slider works as it should with no problems!!

I have dropped this once on carpet with no apparent problems!! After the memory card problem!!

I'm enjoying this player!! Quick easy access to Windows media player!! Above average sound quality!! 1 current problem (don't use 8gb micro sd cards on this). However, 4gb cards are trouble free!! Scratch free screen without a protective case!! But no extra's or goodies!! No sound port or docking station!! No charger stand!! I know you will enjoy yours when you get it!!

I'm a working musician that loves music!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Junk, March 17, 2011
This review is from: MMP9490 Flash Portable Media Player (Electronics)
Brought 2 of these. One lasted for less than a year, then crashed. The other was brought as a Xmas gift. The person I brought MP3 player for did not get around to opening it until February. Once opened, they plugged it into their PC to charge and it immediately crashed. I can understand one defective MP3 player, but when you end up with 2 defective players it means that Memorex is obviously producing junk. Buy at your own risk!

4.0 out of 5 stars setup could be better, June 30, 2011
This review is from: MMP9490 Flash Portable Media Player (Electronics)
I had the same trouble others did with the software. I first thought it was a driver issue when I couldn't turn it
on the first time. After a number of tries to reload the driver it still didn't work so I tried to press the reset button and it started right up. Unfortunately this was not in the faqs so I had to do a google search to find the problem.
The instructions should be followed since it's important that the unit be fully charged before doing anything with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Back from the dead, August 28, 2011

I got 2 of these for my kids. After reading the reviews, I made sure to fully charge the batteries before doing anything else. I loaded them with music and they worked perfectly for the first week. After my daughter charged the battery on one and unplugged it from the computer, everything stopped working. Computer said the device was not recognized. Sent e-mail to get RMA to return the thing. Before getting a response, the same thing happened to the other player. Now, I was getting angry. 2 failures in the first week! Just for fun, I re-read all the reviews and saw the one where someone reset their player. I looked in the manual (great idea) and found how to reset it. VOILA! It worked! So, I tried the other one, and YES! it also worked. All is well now, and I know what to do next time. No data was lost, by the way. Moral of the story, read the manual first, then panic (if necessary).

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay Away!, April 11, 2010
This review is from: MMP9490 Flash Portable Media Player (Electronics)
I got this for my 3 year old to watch videos on while we travel. I know, a 3 yr old could bust this MP3 player but really she never even got to touch the darn thing! I opened it and got the software installed but then getting things to transfer onto the device was slow. I got one movie on (digital copy of up) and tried to get a few other things on when it went kapooot! I can't get it to turn off or back on...and its black. This wouldn't be a problem if I didn't promise my daughter a working device for our plane trip in the morning. Spend the money, get an IPod! I'll be hitting the store when I get to our next destination...

5.0 out of 5 stars Know Where The Reset Button Is, October 23, 2011
This review is from: MMP9490 Flash Portable Media Player (Electronics)
This is a neat little player for the $, I had the same problem some of the other people are complaining about, I downloaded a bunch of music and when I unplugged it from the PC the thing went dead, I went to the disc that came with the unit and looked at the manual and found the reset button and it has worked great ever since, I never even lost any music. What ever you do though do not reformat or you will lose all of your files, this is only if you want to take everything out of the player. I don't know if Amazon will allow me to say this or not but I got mine brand new at Bens Outlet for $39.99+free shipping in case anyone wants to know.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, August 14, 2011
This review is from: MMP9490 Flash Portable Media Player (Electronics)
This is a very cheaply made MP3 player. The screen is soft so you can't put any kind of protective covers over it. With in 6 months of having the MP3 the screen got cracked on the inside rendering the player completely useless. A week later the player fell apart. This MP3 is cheap for a reason, it is built cheaply.
