For those purposes, it works great.

The constant "clicking" of the the monitor on the parent unit was bad enough, but I found the baby unit "clicks" on and off, making noise in the nursery too.

First, the baby unit screen blanked out after a couple minutes of being plugged in.

If you want to sleep - buy something else. First of all - I got this Mobi unit to replace a unit I had for years. The write ups I saw were mixed but the features seemed very good and worth trying it out.

The first unit I got had two issues. First, the baby unit screen blanked out after a couple minutes of being plugged in. Occasionally various led's would light up but you could tell the unit was defective. However - it still seemed to mostly work in terms of being able to listen and talk.

Defect two was more of a problem. When you are with the parent unit - it constantly clicks loudly as it picks up *anything* from the baby unit. It really appeared like it was constantly losing and finding the baby unit. Whatever the cause - there is no way I could sleep through that.

I called Mobi and their service department was great. They gave me an RMA # for return with no hassles. I did have to ask for their UPS shipping code but they gave it readily.

I got the unit back (or another refurb) in about 2 weeks. The good news is that the baby unit now works. The bad news is that the constant clicking is actually part of the feature set - its just how it works.

This unit is going back.

One more side note - the unit I got back did not come back with the rechargeable battery or the instructions. I'll be calling them on that today.

Let me start off by saying that we only use this monitor while we are awake. We are co-sleepers, but need to monitor the little one (4 month old) when she is alone in bed for a few hours in the evening. For this purpose, it works flawlessly. She doesn't even have to make a very loud noise for the monitor to be set off, it will 'fuzz' at the sound of her turning over. Since we live in an apartment and there is often noise outside the window or from the unit above, it will react to that (but we can hear it too and know that it's not the baby). Often, if we hear a fuzz, fuzz, fuzz in quick succession then we know it's her and she's starting to toss and turn and we can get to her before she completely wakes up and starts crying.

However, if we were light sleepers and needed to monitor the baby all night, it would probably drive us nuts. It would most likely be set off by every noise in the building, plus cars arriving/leaving in the parking lot, and every little movement of the baby...all. night. long.

On the other hand, if you really want to make sure you hear every sound the baby makes then you can't go wrong with this one.

I love that it is 2-way and my husband and I have used that feature several times. It also has the alternating channel feature for privacy, which was important to us. It has a nice safety beep that comes on if for some reason the parent unit is on, but the baby unit gets turned off so that you know you need to check on the unit. The price is great too.

I bought this for communication with my mother who needs help walking and with most of her activities. Walkie talkies didn't work because she would forget what she had to do to communicate from her end. With this unit, for her, it's totally hands free. I can place her unit anywhere she is and take the "parent" unit wherever I am. If she needs something, all she needs to do is speak. If I want to talk with her, I just press the talk button. Transmissions are clear and static-free. So far, it's worked flawlessly. We live in a large, fourteen room house and the units work everywhere and at the greatest distance. I've also used the parent unit successfully while in the yard.

The units do have some shortcomings. 1) For some reason, only one set of batteries is included. And, they only hold a charge for a few hours use. I keep the "Baby" unit plugged in and use rechargeable batteries for the "Parent" unit. These go through batteries very quickly, so for me rechargeables are the only way to go. 2) The low battery signal is VERY loud and literally wakes up the whole house. 3) As others have reported, there is an annoying crackle when the parent unit picks up a signal from the baby unit. This is loud enough to keep all but the soundest sleepers awake.

But, all in all, I am satisfied. The units give me peace of mind and I don't have to check on my mother as often as before and she can get help as soon as she needs it.

Hopefully, the maker is working on an "improved" model which I would buy if available.

The monitor picks up the baby's sounds well from 3 rooms away through 4 walls (doors open). The 2 way communication works well too.

On the down side: The monitor makes a loud popping noise as it checks communication with the other monitor every minute or so. It is very annoying and makes it hard to sleep in the room with the reciever. I placed it on the other side of my room and turned the volume down but it was still so annoying that we just turned it off and listened for the baby the old fashioned way.

If it weren't for that MAJOR drawback I would have given it a great rating and I guess if you just want to use it for when the baby takes naps and your awake it is fine. I have used it a few times for when I'm in the garage doing things and the baby's sleeping or playing.
