I have owned the same Monopol "Ah So" for over 20 years; I first encountered it in Australia's Hunter Valley at just about every Winery Cellar Door.

It is all that I use at home, in a large household that consumes on average of two bottles of wine per day that is a lot of corks!

I value it so highly that, with only one, I would not risk it by allowing it to leave the house.

The one that I have is still going though it is now starting to show its age, as an Engineer I want to replace it with two, and will accept no substitutes because the quality of metal in the prongs is better than any of the look-alikes I have seen so far.

It is simply the most compact reliable way to remove a cork, and replace it, without damage to the cork, and it opens bottle tops too!

I had bought this "Butler's-friend" Wine bottle opener for corked bottles of Absinthe using wine corks. One of the brands is notorious for it's brittle corks! I heard this opener was right for the job and bought it. When it came to opening the cork it did a great job but halfway the cork split in two! No problem because this opener can handle such a blunderous situation where other wine openers would fail! I took the broken half off and put the opener back in and extracted the rest of the cork without a problem! No headache and no bits of broken cork in my bottle!

I can without a doubt say this is an amazing product! It removes corks no matter how old or brittle! A must have for Wine and Absinthe Drinkers! If you age your bottles or buy vintage bottles BUY IT! I would recommend this product to anyone! It is well worth the money, top of the line, tough, suave looking. Plus the handle doubles as a bottle opener!

10/10 Great quality product, Highly recommended!

purchased nervously due to previous similar products being terrible. have no fear, very sturdy construction, blades are thicker than competitors & way stronger. very happy with this product.

I've used this product for over 20 years and just bought a second one, strictly as a back-up, as my original is still holding up fine. There are other cheaper imitations of the "ah-so" or "butler's friend" out there, but the MONOPOL is, in my opinion, the gold standard, and really made to last. It's definitely worth the few extra dollars. The design is elegant in its simplicity, but I have read some reviews (for any of the two-prong cork pullers) where people mention that they've cracked or shattered bottle necks using this tool, and it actually did happen to me once, years ago. To avoid this, I would suggest not rocking the prongs all the way down to the hilt. If the bottle is made with weaker or cheap glass, this action may cause undue pressure on the inside of the bottle neck and cause such a mishap. I start turning the handle and twisting out the cork when the prongs are still around 1/4" exposed, and have never had a recurrence. Great product and the only cork puller I ever use.

After more than 30 years of service my old Monopol cork puller that was "Made in Western Germany" finally broke.
I tried to save some money by buying several similar products none of which worked as well as the "Ah-so".
I also bought some fancy cork removers that are quite large and take up a lot of space in my kitchen drawer yet, when all is said and done, I spent more money than this product cost and was not satisfied with their performance. So, I bit the bullet and spent nearly $38 on another Monopol and am very satisfied with how quickly and easily it can extract a cork of any kind out of a wine bottle. I guess the old adage, you get what you pay for, still applies.

Superior craftsmanship, very easy to use, quick and effective. Corkscrew-style openers tend to break the cork. Here's to no more broken corks!

The more I use this the more I love it. I use it very often with well aged wines (25-45 yr. olds) with corks that have seen better days. I have also had decent luck with 60s vintage port as well so the Monopole is a lot easier to transport than port tongs. Well constructed and the spring steel has the right firmness and flexibility.

The Monopol is a must for removing stubborn corks from old wine bottles. I have had two Monopols and love using them. They also make great presents to wine loving friends.
