Before I decided to invest in one of these, I was using a normal surge protector bought from walmart or the like - for my computer multimedia center. There was a storm one day that knocked the power out causing a surge frying both my CPU and causing a few of my speakers to pop. Unfortunately, my cpu was gone, but my speakers still worked. I then decided to invest in this. I got it for around 80-90$ on amazon. A few days after I received and installed it, I got another power outage. This time, the strip itself started beeping, letting me know that it had just protected against a surge. Everything connected to it was protected.

Just some background on the "green power." It basically uses one of the outlets as a switch. If that particular outlet is powered (such as your monitor/tv/computer) then the other 3 on the same side are powered too. Once power is turned off, the 3 that are linked to it are also turned off. Im not sure how much this really saves since it eliminates "vampire energy usage." I use my computer as the main switch, with my printer, monitor and speaker system as the other switch. Once i turn on or off my computer, the other 3 components are also turned on or off. Very convenient. However if you do not want it for any reason, the option can be turned off manual from the side switch.

Another thing I would like to comment on is the clean power. I have a very old vacuum that uses an unusual amount of power to run. Before this strip, vacuuming would make the screen of my monitor fuzzy and glitchy. After this strip, there is a significant reduction in how much "static" I guess you could call it, to none.

Overall I would definitely recommend this if you have delicate audio or video equipment you wish to protect. 80-90, even 120 is a good price compared to the repair costs to your equipment it may save you.

Good product, but a couple issue. My samsung 7.2 channel receiver will not work as the main shutoff for the other green outlets. And it will erase all setting in your blu-ray player when it cuts the power off completely. So you have to plug those pieces of equipment that same settings and info into one of the none green outlets.

This unit allows you to reduce power consumption (Cost of operation) for the devices plugged into special controlled outlets. By using a "Master Controller" device plugged into a special outlet, other devices are powered down when the master device is turned off, saving operating costs. If you are looking for a way to save a little energy and money on operating costs this is a good choice but beware, it depends on your setup. I only power up my surround sound system when I'm watching DVD's, or want to listen to local FM radio or music CD's. If I plug the surround sound system into one of the controlled outlets the surround sound system cannot be powered up with its controller unless the master device is turned on. So in my case, that would be the TV. Makes no sense to power on the TV to listen to a music CD or local FM radio! The unit has outlets that are not controlled. My surround sound system is plugged into one of the uncontrolled outlets. For those that ALWAYS channel the TV sound through the surround sound system then this unit makes much more sense and probably would save on energy costs. One final note...you would not want to plug TIVO or a PVR unit into the controlled outlets either since turning off the TV (Master device) would turn off these devices as well. Currently, I am only using one of the controlled outlets to control power to a fan that circulates air inside my TV cabinet. This unit would be ideal for those that have 3 separate components. (1) TV channeling sound all the time through a (2) separate surround sound system and a (3) separate DVD or Blu-Ray player. Your PVR/Tivo, FM/AM Receiver and DVR would use the uncontrolled outlets.

Works great! Now I don't have to unplug my electronic devices when not in use. Saves energy and protects against surges. It also keeps my TV picture clear when the neighbor is using power tools. (I used to get fine lines on my screen whenever a power tool was in use) This is thirty bucks cheaper on Amazon compared to Best Buy.

This is truly a multi purpose power center. 1.saves electricity 2.surge protector 3.power conditioner 4.multi plug power strip. The plugs are spaced apart nicely so you can even plug in a/c adapters without covering up 2 spots.

This green power center won't save the planet but it will save you some green. Using a kill-a-watt device, I calculated that this power center is saving me roughly $6/month. I would definitely recommend this device.

When I use my Integra DHC 80.1 AV controller as the control unit for the Greenpower switching it will not trigger the off switch for the other GP sockets when the Integra is switched to standby mode. If I use my Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player as the control unit it does switch off the other sockets - but this is not workable for me.

Apparently, the Integra in standby mode does not drop below the current threshold required to trigger the 900G. I suspect this is a 900G design problem vs quality; the design needs to be more robust/inclusive to accomodate the many media products out there or include an accessable pot, or whatever, that the user can tweak to get the unit to trigger with their equipment.

I don't know how much power the Integra uses in standby but the Oppo is specified at 0.5 Watts, so assuming a low power drain is the trigger for the 900G this might give you a clue as to how well it will work for you. Monster should specify the trigger level and show it plainly on the package. But at least returns are relatively easy here at Amazon.

I have no experience on how well this protects against surges but the Green Power is a bust for me. I give it 2 stars though it is useless to me because it apparently works with many other pieces of equipment. It might rate 5 stars if they published a list of equipment with which it works and doesn't work so the customer doesn't have to find out through trial and error, and/or at least publish the standby power required to trigger the unit.

UPDATE: I use my system almost exclusively for music and I have a 19" LCD TV for monitoring the system, cover art, etc. If I use the TV as the GP control unit the auto switching will work properly. It makes some sense to use as the control unit since it is usually on anyway when the system is operating, but this now means it has to be on every time I use the system or all the power goes down. The good news is it apparently uses less standby power than the receiver so it might be a better choice as the control unit anyway for energy savings. So I guess I would rate the unit now as 4 Stars, but still they should do a better job of specifying the required standby power for the trigger unit.

i have bought many of monster products and a couple surge protectors from them. so far this is the best one yet. love the look, functionality, and green power ability. i was going to buy a lower model one at best buy for 40 dollars more. i am sure gald i didnt! thank you amazon :)

Works as stated and looks sharp to boot. Once you are aware of the Green Center functionality it works as stated. Overall Monster has provided me with another wonderful product.

Works as advertised. Very high quality construction. I have my entire entertainment center plugged into this unit. As most people already know, electronic devices such as TV's, receivers, Blu Ray players etc...consume electricity even when turned off. This power strip shuts off power to devices not in use, thus saving electricity consumption.
I'm going to buy a second unit for my computer workstation. Also, Amazon has the best price on this green power unit.
