4.0 out of 5 stars From the Salt Vampire to Tribbles!, July 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The MONSTERS OF STAR TREK (Paperback)
As the name suggests, this book tells all about the monsters, aliens, and androids from the original Star Trek series. Each chapter is about different types of aliens, and there is an index to quickly find anything you want to know.

2.0 out of 5 stars collector's item, March 28, 2000

I borrowed this book from the Prescott (AZ) library and went through it too quickly. The book is pretty useless compared to other nonfiction Star Trek (joke intended) such as the Star Trek Encyclopedia. However, if you are a collector, get this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Superficial descriptions of most of the non-human creatures in the original Star Trek series, July 9, 2007
This review is from: The MONSTERS OF STAR TREK (Paperback)
This book, written for a target audience that I would consider middle school age, is an attempt to describe the non-human creatures that appeared in the original Star Trek series. Use of the word "monsters" in the title is an attempt to appeal to children. This is a misnomer because most of the non-humans in the series were nothing like what we would consider to be monsters. Some of them, such as the Vulcans, Organians and Metrons, were far more intelligent and benevolent than humans.

The sentences are short, choppy and the descriptions of the plot lines are not always precise. They are also so brief that most of the subtle aspects of the plot are missed. First contact with an intelligent species would be such a complex event that it cannot be explained in a few short sentences.

Therefore, I was not impressed with this book. To me, it is one that was put together quickly and given a title that was an inappropriate attempt to appeal to young people.
