2.0 out of 5 stars Cute but not worth publishing.
This book was disappointing. Looks like the result of a "hey, let's publish a book with all the scraps we have around!" type midnight meeting. I was hoping for a book of the quality of "Christian Schellewald LA/SF: A sketchbook from California" but this was a book with no rhyme or reason and very little meat. While there are few good drawings, a lot of them seem like...

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of artists to check out, November 21, 2010
This review is from: MOONSHINE: DREAMWORKS ARTISTS...AFTER DARK! (Paperback)
Length:: 0:34 Mins

Having own a few DreamWorks art books, I always wondered when their collaborative art book would be out. And it's finally out, as Moonshine.

49 artists from DreamWorks has their personal art featured. This includes art from character designers, visual development artists, production designers and art directors. You will see very familiar names like Nicolas Marlet, Nathan Fowkes, Dominique Louis, Chris Appelhans (typo error on contents page, guys!), Paul Lasaine and a whole lot more of talented artists.

The art is beautiful and varied, ranging from sketches to background paintings. I must point out that this book feels very different from your DreamWorks movie art books as there's no overlaying theme and only personal works are featured.

I do recognise some of their styles and is pleasantly surprised and delighted to find that Samuel Michlap has a few of his impressionist-style paintings inside. Also characters from Nicolas Marlet are easy to spot.

The good part about this book is you get to discover new artists, together with their websites and blogs which are listed in the index. So you can check out even more art online.

Nice compilation.

While there are few good drawings, a lot of them seem like filler. Some nice plates of art by Chris Appelhans, Nathan Fowkes, Sam Michlap, Sylvain Deboissy, Marco Mateu and Schellenwald but not their best or most interesting. Again, these are good artists but publishing a book requires a more thoughtful approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book!, January 24, 2011
This review is from: MOONSHINE: DREAMWORKS ARTISTS...AFTER DARK! (Paperback)
I very much looooooved this book! Moonshine covers a lot of artist's personal work, instead of what you would usually see them do in an "art of" book. It is also a rare occasion to have so much talent in one book and a privilege to see some work from artists at DreamWorks who rarely publicize their work. This book is a great tribute to the amazing artists at DreamWorks and a wonderful treat to us fans!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, November 7, 2010

This review is from: MOONSHINE: DREAMWORKS ARTISTS...AFTER DARK! (Paperback)
The cover of this book was really nice and I expected everything in the book to be as good or better than the cover. I was very disappointed and felt most of the art on it's pages was very uninspiring. You would be better off putting your money towards some other art book. There are a lot of great books out there and more coming out each week. I usually browse the book stores and look at the interiors of the books I'm interested in before I buy them on amazon, but I couldn't find this one anywhere and purchased it without seeing it first. I won't be doing that anymore unless it is about an illustrator I am completely familiar with.
