4.0 out of 5 stars A great start to a new series!
I got this because of all of the hype for it at Robogames 2010. First of all the beginning of the story is unfortunately very military cliché. However a little bit after half way the story really starts to shine. Hopefully it sells enough for a second volume. I recommend this to any that likes giant robots or military drama. Plus you a big comic for the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally inappropriate for teens
This review is based solely on the misleading claim that this book is appropriate for younger audiences. If you read this review and cannot find the claim in the first part of the description, "Age Level: 7 and up Grade Level: 1 and up", this review has had the desired impact.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beginning of an epic, January 16, 2012

This sets the stage for an epic in a war-torn world. It is dark and gritty and fits the Mecha genre we know and love. This first volume tries to establish a lot of information about the setting and state of the world, as well as introduce some key players. I hope we can see it reach it's full potential and reach its climax, there is so much that cam be done from here.

This review is based solely on the misleading claim that this book is appropriate for younger audiences. If you read this review and cannot find the claim in the first part of the description, "Age Level: 7 and up Grade Level: 1 and up", this review has had the desired impact.

From a straightforward reading ability perspective, I suppose a seven year old COULD read the all the words in the book. Whether that's a good thing or not depends on what words you want your seven year old to read. If the ability to read every common four-letter profanity is an educational milestone you are aiming for, this is a great reader for your child. On the other hand, if you were completely misled by the description and bought it as a Christmas present for an eleven year old with a keen interest in robotics, as I was, hopefully this will spare you the unfortunate experience we had.

The book literally hits pretty much every common profanity. Opening the book randomly before it was wrapped revealed the "S word", and it was decided then it would be returned. We've only glanced at it further, but it's covered the full range between what passes for "mild profanity" to the bigger F bombs. It's hard to open the book without finding a page that includes profanity.

Whether it's a good read for age-appropriate audiences, I don't really know (or care). Shame on Amazon and others for suggesting this is appropriate for readers as young as age seven.
