2.0 out of 5 stars Phone is PROBLEMATIC
I have been a Nextel customer for YEARS. In general, I like their service. My last phone went for 3 years and except for wear and tear, never gave me a problem...NOT the case on the i850. For the first 2 months, the phone worked well - I loved it. Only exception is that the battery dies much faster than I am used to. A few weeks ago, the phone randomly began turning...

I just switched phone service from verizon, (I couldnt make any phone calls anywhere in my house. )I have to say so far I am impressed with nextel, I can place calls from anywhere in my house, the phone is substantial so you dont feel like you are going to break it like the motorola razr, and it has a camera with great picture quality. I have two very small complaints for this phone #1 the power button its placed so turning the phone on and off is a pain in the neck. Number two complaint is the plastic piece that covers the area to charge the phone the thing is so annoying I just want to rip it off. So far I am not impressed with the battery life on this phone and may take it into nextel..But otherwise it is a good solid phone with solid service. I would definitely recommend this phone a buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, July 22, 2005
This review is from: MOTOROLA i850 NEXTEL GPS ENABLED IDEN CAMERA CELL PHONE
First let me say this. Everyone has the right to there own opinions on items in which they purchase. But I think some people should do the proper research on there phone service, and they will find that most problems do have a solution. With that being said, now to the phone and Nextel service it self. The first phone I bought with Nextel was the i710. Got tremendous service from the phone, despite negative reviews on that phone. When the i860 came out, I upgraded and went through a total nightmare. Phone calls going straight to voice mail, dropped call, poor battery life, etc. I was ready to cancel my service until a rep suggested I take it to a service center and guess what? I had a software issue. They replaced the phone and started getting great service from the i860.

Move now to the i850(because I got to get every new phone that comes out) and I absolutely love this phone. I have not had one drop call yet. The speaker is very clear, not muffled. The menu is easy to navigate and overall it conducts itself like a phone should. The drawbacks if you want to call it that, would be the picture quality and the so so battery life. Now the battery life is not bad, but of course because of IDEN most Nextel phone are going to be kind of suspect with battery life because their phones are more like landline phones. The picture quality is so so also. But hey...camera phones are used for quick shots and fun images, not serious photo shooting.

Overall this is the best phone out there and Nextel continues to improve. But I have heard that i930 will really put Nextel on the map. But after all is said, go get this phone, it is worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Phone Yet !!!, October 31, 2005
This review is from: MOTOROLA i850 NEXTEL GPS ENABLED IDEN CAMERA CELL PHONE
I recently purchased this phone as an upgrade from my i95cl. This is a great phone. I've heard some people say on other review boards that it is big and bulky. I think they were writing about the WRONG phone.

This phone is thin and lightweight (esp. compared to i95). Clarity is EXCELLENT. My calls sound like a landline phone and it is so great. The menus are easy to navigate.

The only con I have about the phone is the rubber piece that covers the charger hole. Sometimes it is hard to open, especially when you need to access it quickly to plug your phone in. I'm sure after a couple of weeks I will get the hang of it and it will loosen up a bit to make it easier to open as well.

This is a great phone and I'd recommend it to anyone! I'm so glad I upgraded. I just can't say enough good things about this phone and it's too many to mention.

I've had this phone and Nextel a couple weeks. (Nextel is the ONLY cell phone provider that works in my apartment complex) I like the features and all. The camera works as well as any other cell phone camera. My only problem is it takes forever to get to the text feature (and I'm a big text messenger.) With Sprint I was able to bypass getting online to send a text. But unlike Sprint, Nextel does not charge cost for phones either. So far Im pleased, luckily I have my Sidekick for texting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Nextel phone!, October 23, 2005

I switched back to nextel from cingular wireless last week, and I got this phone with my new contract. I love it! It has a crisp, clear screen, with a good external caller ID screen. The battery life isn't too bad, but it would probably be a good idea to get a vehicle charger. I get great reception where I live and where I go to school, and so far I have been very happy that I switched. The camera on the phone is pretty good, nothing to complain about there, and it also has a 4x zoom which is really cool. Overall, I am really satisfied with my phone and the service. If you are thinking about switching to nextel, or are thinking about purchasing this phone, I think it is a great purchase!

A few weeks ago, the phone randomly began turning itself off. Sometimes it's when it flips shut, other times for no apparent reason. When it does, sometimes you can turn it back on, sometimes you can't. Plug in the charger and you get "invalid battery" or "invalid charger". I took it in for service, got a new battery and 2 days later...here we go again. I probably wouldn't mind if this was the $40 phone I bought my son - not the almost $300 phone I bought myself. I've googled the problem and it seems to be VERY common...and replacement phones are giving the same errors. I'm debating asking for a full refund and going back to my i730 which was just a great little work horse. Totally unacceptable to have so many problems in this price range.

5.0 out of 5 stars NICE PHONE!, August 16, 2005
This review is from: MOTOROLA i850 NEXTEL GPS ENABLED IDEN CAMERA CELL PHONE
I love this phone! It's stylish and practical, and I don't feel like it's going to fall apart on me like the RAZR. Lots of features, and Nextel is a great service, too. My wife and I are on together, so we can always "direct connect" in seconds! My entire company uses Nextel phones, so I'm always in touch! BRAVO!

I just love this phone. I've had the i90, i730, and the i830, but this one beats them all. I'm especially impressed with the durability of this phone, and the awesome internal display. I highly recommend this phone.

1.0 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, July 31, 2006
This review is from: MOTOROLA i850 NEXTEL GPS ENABLED IDEN CAMERA CELL PHONE
Before even having this phone for a year the outside of my flip went out and will no longer display the time or date,. The phone will power off whenever it feels like (including during calls), and sometimes will not turn on for up to 15 minutes regardless of if it has full battery life or not. At times when I am charging it, it will tell me I have an invalid battery, though the battery I am using is one that came with the phone originally. It also will register having an invalid charger on every one of the three Nextel chargers I have. When I contacted Motorola, I was told I would have to pay $50 dollars for pick up to send it in and be repaired and have the shutting off problem fixed, despite the fact that it is still under warranty. They also told me it would be an additional $170 dollars to fix my flip. I don't know why these problems have happened. I haven't even so much as dropped the phone. It has been very well taken care of, it is fairly expensive, and for some odd reason it couldn't even hold up for a year. All and all this phone has given me headaches everyday for the past few months and there is no way I will ever purchase a Motorola phone again.

1.0 out of 5 stars I can't stand this phone, May 17, 2007
This review is from: MOTOROLA i850 NEXTEL GPS ENABLED IDEN CAMERA CELL PHONE
I've had the same problem as many of the reviewers on here. This phone has a problem with shutting down at any random moment. This is my 3rd i850 in less than a year and I'm sick of it! I'm sick of losing all of my pictures, etc. each time they have to replace it. Anyone looking to buy this phone should reconsider.
