Without a doubt "The Mountain" made in 1956 is my all-time favorite film, mainly because of Spencer Tracy the all-time greatest Hollywood actor. There are many special qualities that this movie possesses which might not be appreciated after the first viewing. While watching notice that before any intros are displayed, the opening scene wastes little time showing a plane in distress which then crashes, with great visual and audio effects, on top of a mountain. The two main characters (Spencer Tracy as "Zachary Teller" and Robert Wagner as "Christopher Teller") are brothers that for reasons of good vs. evil decide to climb the mountain to reach the wreck of the crashed airliner. This becomes the basis of a fabulous and unusual plot packed with emotion, adventure and spiritual meaning. Zachary wants to help Chris climb due to the danger and the love for his brother but Chris wants to climb to take the dead passenger's possessions and escape his life as a simple farm hand. One cannot help but identify with Zachary's struggle to convince Chris that what he is doing is wrong as indicated by the following line stated before the climb began: "You want me to take you up to the top of the mountain in the sight of God so that you can pick the pockets of dead people? Isn't there anything inside of you that tells you its wrong?" Chris then responds "I'd do worse than that to get out of here", thereby setting the stage for a "clash of wills". For those who have not seen the film I will not say how it ends as I wish that all who read this review who have not seen it can one day give it a look. It has beautiful scenery of the French Alps and the countryside as well. Enjoy and God bless.

The movie to me is a five star & one of Spencer Tracy's finest performances. The edition with Korean & Chinese subtitles [THE MOUNTAIN with Spencer Tracy (Import Edition)(Adventure) (1956)], as shown in the cover image of this product has been transferred from VHS - probably the same edition sold by Paramount in VHS 20 years ago. I was very disappointed as i already had a copy from the same VHS edition--(the screen noise & dust specks make me think it IS the same NTSC VHS Paramount edition), & I think, the one i already have is a hair better in image crispness, thus a slightly better transfer made by Euro International DVDs. A wonderful movie & hope it will receive a proper digital transfer, if not from Paramount, from the company that is now doing some of the old Paramount pics. I apologize for disappointing anyone who believes they are getting a genuine transfer from other than VHS source.

Great movie,other reviews give you the storey,however quality of dvd...korean,subtitles can be removed,not alot of features but good quality picture and sound would not hesitate to buy,hard to get dvd only korean copy avalible.

The movie is great but the sound is typical of an early Japanese monster or Kung Fu movie. A movie that shows the actors lips moving then the sound comes out several frames later. Is there not some company out there that can reproduce this great classic Spencer Tracy movie with better quality than this foreign attempt?

Great adventure & suspense movie, excellent acting from one of the all-time greats. Very highly recommended.

If you want this movie there is no need wait, god knows how long, for a completely restored copy. Although it is not perfect like the colors are a little too vivid and the audio isn't perfectly synced overall the quality is good enough to enjoy what I consider one of those rare gems that Hollywood often overlooks. The first month I had the CD I watched the movie three times.

I first saw this movie in my ninth grade English class. My teacher used it (and other movies) to illustrate many literary devises such as foreshadowing, allegory and metaphor. For me, it (and a Sunday school class backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon) literally changed my life: I became what my brothers called "Billy Backpacker". There are three stars in this movie: Spencer Tracy, Robert Wagner and the beauty of the Alps. It is a simple story of good and bad, challenging the elements and challenging one's self. It is beautifully photographed with just the right combination of conflict, action and suspense. Robert Wagner is perfect as the younger brother and Spencer Tracy steals the show as the older brother whose love for his criminal brother makes him make a statement that nobody can believe. By today's action standards this movie is slow, but it is well worth the "wam bam" movie lover to take their time to see this great classic.

the story is as current as it was then. spencer tracy always represents the highest in human values. an older movie. the quality is not as good as i would like but is quite beautiful. the scenery can look phoney but it is before cgi.is made in korea i assume. be sure to check the sub-title language.

This is one of my favorite movies. I remember seeing it when I was a kid and was totally enthralled, it still amazes me. I've been waiting for an American company to offer it in DVD, hopefully remastered. I purchased the Asian DVD version and found it mediocre in quality. Why hasn't it been turned into a DVD here in America? They've turned exceptionally bad films into DVD's in the past and I can't understand why they have shunned this one. I've been waiting for years for an American company to redo the color and offer it in DVD. I check online every 6 months to see if they are finally offering it in DVD (American company).

This is an older movie but a really good story about two brothers... What a really good movie for a Lazy Sunday afternoon snuggled with someone you love, relaxing and enjoying a good movie with a true to heart story
