Excellent Value - Great Product!,
This review is from: MP3 Bible-KJV (MP3 CD)
I love this Bible! You may have noticed that there are very few details about this product in the description, so I'll start with the text from the back of the case."Holy Bible - Narrated by Alexander Scourby Complete and Unabridged on Three CDs Available now in the convenient, easy-to-use MP3 format, the world's best-loved translation of the Bible is brought to life in this powerful, word-for-word narration by renowned dramatist Alexander Scourby. Cutting-edge recording technology delivers a crystal-clear reading of God's Word on only three CDs. Enjoy Alexander Scourby's powerful narration of the King James Version - 72 hours instantly accessible via MP3 device, computer, or MP3-enabled CD or DVD player. Packaged in a take anywhere protective case. Windows or Macintosh compatible. Audio CDs hold just over one hour of reading - MP3-format CDs hold over 25. Get all sixty-six books of Scripture on only three CDs! The CDs include extra features for PC or Mac: an easy-to-navigate interface gives access to a variety of Bible reading plans (which can be loaded as play lists) and the ability to search the text of Scripture by keyword or phrase and like to audio files to listen. System requirements: 32 MB RAM or higher, 25 MB of free hard drive space (to load software onto computer hard drive), and 1.9 GB to save entire file to hard drive". I have not played with the software much yet because I bought it primarily for my MP3 player - but it looks very easy to navigate. The software uses adobe acrobat reader to operate. The "take anywhere protective case" is just a hard plastic case - nothing fancy - but who wants to pay for fancy packaging? The feature I was most excited about was that it was designed for MP3. As you know if you've ever tried it--converting audio CDs to MP3 is not hard, but it is time consuming - because you have to name every track in a way that MP3 software will recognize and put in proper order. With this Bible--the files are already named that way for you. Now it is as easy as drag and drop and you can use these audio files in your favorite MP3 software or iTunes - without any additional editing! In addition, there is no distracting background music - just the magnificent voice narration of Alexander Scourby. If you are looking for a full, unabridged KJV Bible in MP3, look no further. This is a great deal!

Poor Sound Quality,

This review is from: MP3 Bible-KJV (MP3 CD)
I bought this Mp3 Bible because in my opinion Alexander Scourby does the very best Bible reading. I also own this on cassette and CD, but the reason I bought this was for the convenience of having all the tracks properly labeled for ease of use in my iPod. Unless the tracks are labeled properly they won't play correctly (in consecutive order). The problem I have with this set however, is that the sound quality is quite inferior to the same version of this in the CD format. I have done side by side comparisons, and the CD's definitely sound much better. I don't know what they did to these recordings in the mastering process but it sounds bad. It sounds muffled. Some sections worse than others. So for me, this was a total waste of money. I removed them from my PC and my iPod, and instead painstakingly labeled each track from my CD version. It was a lot of work, but it was definitely worth it. I definitely CANNOT RECOMMEND this MP3 version.

This mp3 edition on 3 dvd discs is a definate must-have for any Christian. Not only does it provide the trusted old KJV version, but the voice acting by Alexander Scourby is not only accurate but at a pace that one can follow along with. I use these mp3's almost every day when I take public transportation to and from work. I just loaded them onto my mp3 player, and 4 gigs later....I'm ready to go.It is truly a blessing to be able to spend more time in God's word. Having an accurate version of the Bible which I can take with me and use so much of the day is a great help in staying focused on Scripture. The only downside (and it is very slight, but worth mentioning) is that there is a slight echo in the voice recording. (This is why I have rated it 4 stars instead of 5). Have tried a few different players and headphones, but it is still there. Overall I can hardly notice it, but if you are an extreme audiophile this might quickly become rather tiresome and you might want to find a different version.

Excellent Deal,
This review is from: MP3 Bible-KJV (MP3 CD)
Are you interested in hearing the word of God in your car? On your computer? Anywhere? In just three CD's (2 for the old testament, 1 for the new testament), you get the entire word of God in the KJV in MP3 format. Alexander Scourby reads with clarity and an excellent tone of voice. If you're interested in being "transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.", these CD's are for you. Or maybe you are seeking God or going through tough times...maybe listen to the book of Ephesians or Psalms. The CD is easy to navigate between chapters of the Bible. If you want to hear the same chapter again, just press a button on your stereo and there it is again! This is a great deal--the entire word of God in 3 CD's for under $20. Outstanding.

Very easy to use. Just cut and paste files into computer. All are named properly so whatever mp3 program you have organizes the info properly to transfer to your mp3 player. There is a slight noticeable echo. So if you need the perfect crisp sound of scourby, this is not for you. (this is only when you transfer to a mp3 device.)

Good but could have been better,

This review is from: MP3 Bible-KJV (MP3 CD)
I never seem to have the time to just sit and read devotionally so I bought this for my MP3 player (Creative Zen) with the intent to use it when I am doing work on the PC, working out at the gym, or to just listen to and follow along in the Bible. The other reviews on here are mostly accurate, especially in regards to sound quality. I did not find the quality as disturbing as others, some are rather exagerrated, and I don't find it an impediment to the listening experience. Some tracks, not all, sound like they were recorded in an empty room and give Scourby's voice a distinct echo quality but it is not as bad as others have made it out to be. In fact, I found it insignficant. If I had had the chance to hear the tracks before I purchased it, I would have purchased it anyway. At any rate, it appears that this is a strictly Old Testament issue. I have not discovered this audio characteristic in the New Testament portion. On the whole, it was Scourby's voice I was after. I had the chance to listen to three other "Bible on MP3" sets(dramatized, James Earl Jones and the other guy who I can't remember) and Scourby's voice is by far superior to those. The minor audio issues are worth it to have Scourby. As for installation, I am not real "tech savvy" so I had to take about 10 minutes to figure out how to install it but after that the installation went smoothly. But be informed that it does not come with directions as to how to transfer the files from the cpu to the MP3 player. I saw no prompt allowing installation directly to the MP3 device but that does not mean it cannot be done. Knowing these things, I do recommend the product, nothing in this world is perfect, and for 16 bucks the value of the product exceeds its price tag.

Great All Around,
This review is from: MP3 Bible-KJV (MP3 CD)
The KJV with Scourby and no music. Can't beat that. I have an audio NIV with an actor with a magnigicent voice but the drama and music bed get tiresome after awhile. This is clean and great for repeated listening.

Really nice. You can copy the files to a computer via their software and can pick and choose to listen from your computer, or you can 'explore' the CDs and copy them 'manually'. I copied the mp3 files to a pen drive and bought an FM transmitter to play the entire bible from the 2GB pen drive when in my car.

Well, I had read previous posts complaining of the 'echo' effect on this 3 CD set, but paid no heed. I should have, as the echo effect was so bad that I couldn't bare listening to Scourby's incomparable reading. I once owned the tape cassette version and there was no echo effect at all, though there was some discernable print through which is characteristic of the tape medium. I can't figure out how the echo was introduced. Perhaps during the transfer from tape or, more likely, during the transfer from digital master to MP3. Has anyone listened to the 6 CD set listed on Amazon? I wonder if that's any better. The price is certainly right. Otherwise I guess I'll have to spill for the 60 CD set. I don't believe anyone other than Scourby has recorded a complete KJV. His neutral Mid-Atlantic accent is perfect.
