I'll begin with if your expecting military MREs this isn't the product for you. These are civilian survival rations, now Some of the selections aren't what you would expect from something marked as the main course such as sausage gravy, there isn't anything wrong with that, its a very filling meal, its just not a traditional main course. Now on to the order itself, the meals arrived promptly, within 4 days of my order in fact, the box was glue sealed and taped, all the meals were vacuum packed with absolutely no holes in any of the bags and all of them were marked 9/13 which is extremely fresh, the meals were smaller than I expected but have some experience with military MREs I know a lot of the bag is empty space and random stuff I wouldn't eat anyway, besides these are the perfect size to go in my rig bag so I can't complain, overall I'd say this was a very good purchase and would definitely recommend it to others.

Went to the local supply shop and they had some cases of this brand. I have been looking to pick some of these up in case of emergency and/or camping. These MRE's (for you Military folks, I believe MRE has now achieved the status of Q-tip, Mace, and band-aid) are civilian and I have seen numerous issues on other reviews.

some caveats about this review:

I bought only one MRE, not a case. an MRE is a quick on the go type meal, they are not going to be as good as food you prepare at home, or over the camp fire. I bought the Pinto Bean Stew With Ham.

So calorie count was 1130 for everything in the meal, so figure you would get around 3400 calories per day. According to the USDA the average physically active male/females should eat up to 3,000/2,400 per day. So if you are out camping or doing any other strenuous activity, you should have sufficient caloric intake.

Taste Entree. The entree was actually good. Better than I expected (of course I am not a picky eater). I used the full salt and full pepper packet to season.

Heater. The entree heater was included, and did an admirable job. I probably should have let it heat another minute of so, but after about three minutes or so, it seemed to have done the job. It is a bag that has a self contained pocket that the entree pocket is surrounded by. To be clear, it is not submerged, it is placing the entree packet in a heater pocket. When I pulled the entree out and shook it up to test for uniformity of warmth I had a hard time reinserting it (probably from expansion of the chemical reaction of the heater pack). FYI it was still creating heat for some time after I was done eating.

I thought I was getting 12 dinner entrees. If you go to a restaurant and look though the menu, you will see a few sections. 1 is called entrees. Things you will not find are Oatmeal( in witch I got 2 of in this case)and Biscuits and gravy(witch is not bad, but not an entree I got 2 of those also). So 4 out of 12 or 1/3 of this case is breakfast items. Not entrees to me. Plus in the discription they did not say anything about Oatmeal or Biscuits and gravy. I'm not saying this product is bad just not totally what I was expecting.

Bought these to have on hand in the event that the SHTF. I don't know if that will happen or not but at least I'll be prepared. As far as how they taste, probably like their military conterparts. Maybe not so good but at least they supply the proper amount of calories.
