These are NOT MREs,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MRE Star with flameless heaters (Misc.)
The title is misleading. While these are meals and are "ready to eat", the term "MRE" normally refers to a specific type of government-issue ration. These are somewhat good, but significantly inferior to "real" MREs. (It's been several years since I had "real" MREs; from what I understand, they are continuously improved upon. My last MREs dated from around 2002.)
The meals I received consisted of a main course (some type of stew or pasta in sauce), dried fruit, mixed nuts, 4 lemon cookies, and drink mix. Also included was a heater pouch and a small accessory pack with spoon, napkin, salt, pepper, coffee, and sugar. They might have a wider selection of main dishes, but everything I received was stew or pasta. Give this to anyone who has eaten a real MRE, and they will immediately ask: "Where's the peanut butter?" - it's not here. Neither is the actual side dish present in most MREs, nor are the crackers. While food choices are going to be limited in any type of ration, these offer a particularly narrow selection. Every meal is stew, fruit, nuts, cookies. I've eaten "real" MREs for a week straight without a major reason to complain; I would tire of these after three in a row. With "real" MREs, the type of main dish varies and isn't limited to stews and pastas. The side dish/dessert varies, and there is even some variation in the rest: plain crackers, vegetable crackers, bread; peanut butter, cheese, jalapeño cheese; various types of jams jelly. I've heard some new ones include a milkshake! While you probably won't find real, government-issue MREs on Amazon, you can find very similar products. 9218 SURE PAK COMPLETE MEALS WITH HEATER This page has a lot more information on this product: mreinfo com

This item is not what it says it is...,

This review is from: MRE Star with flameless heaters (Misc.)
This items description was posted as "...Features: 12 MRE Full Case. 8 oz Entree (6 varieties, 2 of each in every case, total 12 MRE kits per case). ..." I received only 11 "MRE"'s and they were very small ratios in comparison to the gov. issued MRE, Also the description says you would receive two of each of the six, i received 3 of one kind and a few that i only got one of... this MRE package doesn't include any heater for your coarse like an MRE should and in the description it tells you that with your meal you will receive "Side Dish or Dry Fruit. 2 oz Raisins & Mix Nuts. 2 oz Cookies. Drink Mix (orange flavor). Accessory Pack (spoon, coffee, sugar, creamer, salt, pepper, napkin, moist towel)." I did not receive any Dry fruit, Raisins & mixed nuts, or Drink mix and the accessory pack didnt contain any creamer or a napkin. The description of this product is missleading in every way...
I would NOT recommend this product to anyone due to the missleading nature of the discription!

Wouldn't eat every day.,

Purchased as a gift for my son and he loves them. They are kind of bland in my opinion and they do need to be heated up. These DO NOT include the heater.

MRE Star Meal ready to eat packs,
This review is from: MRE Star with flameless heaters (Misc.)
I bought several cases of these after buying one case and trying them out. The meals are pretty tasty, but I like my food a little spicy, so keep a bottle of Tabasco and maybe garlic on hand. There were four different meals with a dessert and drink, all you need is to heat them. Not a bad deal for the money. I wish I could find a few people in my area to go in on a pallet of them so we could all have food for our families for at least a week.
If you live in the Denver area let me know and maybe we can put enough money together to get a pallet at a discounted price.

THE BEANS GET OLD FAST,
By
This review is from: MRE Star with flameless heaters (Misc.)
The meals taste great, except for the crackers. They require a serious amount of water or soda or anything to eat. The beans that are in EVERY packet get old fast. Ive had two just to try them and Im already sick of them. If I had to eat them everyday to survive thatd be one thing, but I dont.
-AN UPDATE: I finally got two meals without the beans, there was one with garlic mashed potatos and another with something was actually good, wish I could remember what it was. The garlic mashed potatos made me wish for the beans, they were that terrible. I was being nice in giving these a four star rating earlier and due to the other side, which I cant remember what it was, but it was good, I am going to leave it at a four. The crackers are still intolerable and worthy of making me want to starve to death. |
