Book Description

April 1, 2007 1905740611 978-1905740611
MRI Made Easy is an excellent portable pocket guide which can be consulted by the reader when monitoring scans on screen and during interpretations of images. The book is a simple overview of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which explains the fundamentals in a clear, concise manner. It has been written to serve as an introduction to the subject, specifically useful for beginners to MRI, particularly radiology residents. The book is divided into two sections: the first covers basic principles, instrumentation of the MR system, sequences, artefacts and MR interpretation. The second explains how MRI has advanced in recent years, and its applications across diverse disciplines. Contents: 1. Basic Principles 2. T1, T2 Relaxation and Other Parameters 3. Instrumentation 4. Sequences I: Basic Principles 5. Sequences II: Few Common Sequences 6. Artifacts 7. MR Safety 8. MR Contrast Media 9. Principles of Interpretation: Neuroimaging 10. Principles of Interpretation: Body imaging 11. MR Angiography 12. MR Diffusion 13. MR Perfusion 14. MR Spectroscopy 15. Cardiac MRI 16. MRCP 17. Miscellaneous MR Techniques

4.0 out of 5 stars extremely easy to assimilate, September 6, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: MRI Made Easy (Made Easy Series) (Paperback)
Despite the syntax errors, it is cery clear that the author understands his subject matter very well. He presents it very lucidly. One can read books that provide greater detail, but this little book is an absolute treasure. I have been handing them out like candy. Anna K. Chacko MD

1.0 out of 5 stars Fundamental Errors - beware., June 7, 2011
This review is from: MRI Made Easy (Made Easy Series) (Paperback)
After reading the short excerpt from this book it is clear, that although the author has attempted to explain MRI physics simply, the text contains several fundamental errors. For example the statement " randomly moving protons align and spin in the direction of the external magnetic field" is not correct. The protons do not align with the external field - the magnetic moments of the protons align (not the protons themselves). The axis of rotation is not the proton as stated in the excerpt but the magnetic moment of the proton. The statement " forces of protons now add up to form a new magnetic vector in the transverse plane" is also incorrect. The net magnetisation will be orientated transversely if the +z and -z forces are balanced and a therefore a new magnetic vector is not created.

If there are this many errors in this short excerpt that covers the most basic subjects, then I can only assume that there are likely to be more errors in the more difficult areas such as pulse sequences. The poor English aside, I can see little point in buying this book as there are plenty of others covering the same material accurately.
